An Old Friend Returns and A Heart Is Confused

Akira

Things seemed to be hectic. There were over twenty people in the club now and almost all of them annoyed me, except when they bothered to talk to me and try to get to know me, so most of them were my friends. It was really only some of the new people that got on my nerves but there were a few people that were confusing me. Kuroshiro and Griffin.

In ways, they seemed that they were getting along, but in others, not so well, and it was only around me when they didn’t get along, no matter how hard I yelled at them. One day though, when I went and picked up Amor and I had gotten back, Griffin was alone this time and once I headed up to my room, I could see him going to his room from bringing Amor’s luggage. He seemed even more pissed as he came across the foyer, muttering something under his breath.

“What is it now, Dragonboy?” I asked him as I leaned against my bedroom door and he just looked at me with annoyance.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Griffin spat at me and I narrowed my eyes.

“What do you mean by that?” I asked back and he leaned one arm above me and looked over me from above. I crossed my arms and glared at him.

"Why do you act so high and mighty, huh? You think it'll make a difference with everyone? Everybody that lives here in the mansion aren’t getting along, let alone with you, and you think that acting this way towards everybody is completely fine! You’re being a b****, Akira!” I narrowed my eyes with my fist clenched in a hard ball and swung it at his face but he caught it before it even made contact. I struggled against his grip and tried to swing my leg towards his crotch but he caught that with such quick speed. Dammit.

I wouldn’t have been able to get out of this hold if I had even tried so I just loosened myself in defeat and Griffin let go of me and just looked at me as I looked down at my feet. He was right. I was horrible towards everyone here. Sure, maybe I had gotten to talk to some people but I had never let anyone in because well, I figured it was... the way to betrayal.

“You’re right,” I mumbled and he just blinked in disbelief. “And I’m a horrible leader. You’d probably be doing better than me. All I’ve been doing is studying my father’s notes and it sounds like my father’s crazy!” I exclaimed as I sighed and opened up my door into my room. Griffin just stood in the shadow of the door, as if waiting for something else but I didn’t have anything to say else to the matter.

“Why don’t you try to do something to the club to help everyone or something?” Griffin asked and I shrugged as I sat down on my bed. Then an idea came to me and I grabbed a pen and a pad of paper. I started to write down my idea and Griffin continued to stand in the doorway.

“What’s that?” He asked as he came over to me and looked over my shoulder.

“An idea of how to tell everybody what we know so far and what we need to know. Karin has these... nightmares and so do other people around here. I overhear things... and I think they all have some sort of connection. It’s going to be like a training, get-to-know each other thing. What do you think?” Griffin didn’t say anything as he looked at what I was writing and drawing on the page. That’s all he did do before he left silently before saying a few words.

“Yeah. That’s what a leader needs to start doing,” He had murmured before he left my room and I stayed up all night, writing down this plan.

“Akira.” I stirred from where my head was laying comfortably on my arms but didn’t budge. “Akira. Wake up. It is noon already.” I groaned and moved my head up and saw Griffin overlooking me. It was odd, seeing him here right when I woke up. He looked in an okay mood for once, which was odd.

“Fine, I’ll get up,” I murmured and I heard him actually chuckle a little bit before he left the room. It made me wonder what he was thinking. Wait, did he just look at the plans I made? I rubbed my eyes open and looked at the plans. They seemed all in order... I made my way up and got into a pair of camo pants and a plain tank top and decided to go barefoot. Once I brushed my hair, ears, and tail, I headed out of my room and found Griffin not there. Huh. That’s when I could hear his voice downstairs, barking something, and actually, a lot of voices almost... cheering and happy, not including Griffin’s. Okay, there must be something wrong.

I hurried downstairs while stuffing my piece of paper in my back pocket, and saw a familiar face by the door. He was happy and yet, annoyed. I could see he was trembling and that he was hungry. Loads of people were crowding him and saying “Hi” and “Long time, no see” comments. He had on a whole new set of clothing and he was even growing a beard. He had a black fedora hat on his head- along with a green tank top that said something in French in black, and black jeans that were from Germany because of the logo on the bottom of the pants. He had a few bags from Japan on his shoulder and something that looked like Spanish boots on him. I smirked as I leaned against the banister.

“So, errand boy, how long did your plane flight take you to come back here?” He looked up at me, the expression almost priceless, because it only showed hate. And he was smiling.

“Why, Akira, I’ve been all over the world. Don’t you think a plane flight back here for myself instead of everybody else here was actually peaceful without you annoying me?” Sebastian smiled, his voice filled with vile.

“Oh, really? Well, I was sleeping. You were lucky. And just how did you come back without more people hanging around your throat?” I asked, noticing that everybody was listening in on the barking fight.

“Why, didn’t you know? The list ran out of people to get and I still have one in the car,” Sebastian spat, his hand slightly trembling. I ignored the last part.

“Why, I probably didn’t pay attention. After all, being a leader that absolutely sucks and doesn’t know what to do next, keeps me extremely busy,” I hissed back while also looking over everybody. Their eyes darted to the floor or kept staring at me, expecting me to do something.

“Nobody was saying that, Akira,” Karin chirped with slight nervousness and I sighed, my ears drooping.

“But everybody has been thinking it,” I put plainly with a sigh. “Now, will everybody head over to the table? Not just for breakfast, but for something else too. I have something planned for all of you guys,” I told them, trying to be a little bit perkier. Why was I even trying? It didn’t truly reflect what I was really feeling. Why bother?

Everybody moved over to the table once I got over to it with breakfast waiting in the kitchen, ready to be put on the table. Once everybody sat down with Sebastian finding a chair, I got up on the table and overlooked everybody. Right before I was about to start, Sebastian spoke up again and I sat down where I was on the table.

“Hang on, Akira. I have to go and help the new guy in that I brought with me. I just have to be... careful,” Sebastian sighed as he got back up from his chair and headed out the door. I raised my eyebrow in confusion until Sebastian came in with gloves on, carrying bags, which seemed odd.

“Nodin, it’s fine to come in,” Sebastian called out as he put the bags near the stairs and opened up the door wider. The name sounded familiar but that’s when I realized I knew the guy who was coming in the door, who was very adamant about disinfecting the door handle and the door itself, since he touched both. He had black, sickly hair and the same went for his skin. His clothes were pretty normal. He had something under his arm though, and it looked like an iPad or something and it had the same... electric green... world that was on my computer for the... hard drive. And it had a name on it that I recognized from my father’s notes.

“Nodin?” I questioned out loud and he looked up at me and he narrowed his eyes.

That’s when Nodin started to look for something in his pants and brought something out of it. It was a picture and he kind of came up to the table from a distance but I was able to see the picture. It was a picture of my father, a man I guessed was his father, himself, and I. I seemed to have a nervous face, standing next to Nodin. I suddenly felt sorry for Sebastian. Nodin was a demon but he held only sickness and plague. It was a surprise on how I remembered all of this.

“My father mentioned your father in his notes. I remember seeing you when I was young but I was always afraid to talk to you because of your... well, condition,” I put simply with a small chuckle and he just rolled his eyes and Sebastian closed the door after Nodin came in and Sebastian took off his gloves.

Afterwards, a man came in that looked extremely familiar. That’s when I took some of Dad’s notes out of my pocket and found a picture of my father and this guy in it. I knew him. I had such a deep feeling that I did. That’s when people started to talk because of Nodin’s father being a human.

“Excuse me?” I called out to him before he grabbed Nodin’s bags to take them up, like he knew the place. He turned to me and let go of Nodin’s bags.

“Akira? Akira Corners?” He asked and I smiled and jumped off of the table.

“Guys, it’s fine,” I told the club as I shook my ears and tail out and a lot of them stared at me. “He knew my father. It’s okay to be ourselves,” I told them and they just murmured a bit before talking amongst themselves and shaking out their ears, tails, wings, whatever other appendages. I turned to Nodin’s father.

“You sure have grown since I saw you last,” Nodin’s father said and I smiled.

“You remind me of my father and I need to finish up what I’m doing, since you have Nodin and I’m pretty sure you remember the place,” I told him with a nod and he nodded back and headed over to Nodin. His dad helped me upstairs and Sebastian looked at me.

“Take a seat,” I told him and Sebastian stared at me. He seemed tense, shaky, and pissed. Nodin’s father wasn’t the greatest person in the world when it came to his son and with Sebastian, he probably hasn’t eaten (I mean as in blood) in a while. Instead of doing this idea of mine, maybe I should do something for Sebastian...

Once Sebastian took his seat and Nodin and his father went upstairs, I decided to talk but not stand up.

“Change of plans! We are going to have a feast for Sebastian tonight!” I declared and everybody started to talk.

“What food?” Acacia asked, giving me a glare on what would be eaten. I rolled my eyes.

“Nothing dealing with healthy crap, like leaves and fruit and vegetables,” I put plainly and she seemed satisfied with that answer as Dante squeezed her hand. I don’t know why I stared at their hands for a moment before looking back at everybody. Did I want to have my hand held or something, by somebody that I liked? But who do I like...? I shook the question out of my head.

“So we have much to set up for welcoming Sebastian back home but everybody else can go and do whatever. It’ll be around dinner time, though I will need help from Travis, Griffin, Karin, Kuroshiro, and Colette. Sam, you too,” I told him and Sam just nodded, as if unphased by my words. He was being unusually quiet lately and it was odd. Maybe this way, I could get to know the human. He hadn’t ratted us out yet. Everybody dispersed and Sebastian immediately went to Karin.

Once I set Karin and Griffin to cooking with Travis being there to help out with everything being perfect, I had Kuroshiro put up decorations and having Colette making sure the cleaning was good and that the decorations were aligned. I overlooked everything and made sure everything outside near the pool was fine. That was the time Nodin’s father came back down and outside and over to me.

“This club of yours... It seems very dangerous...” He left off as he looked over the pool and I just stood beside him.

“That’s the point,” I told him and he looked at me immediately. “Why not attract them to us? We want to know why they hunt us.” I grabbed my laptop off of the table next to me because I never let it out of my sight and opened it up. The program immediately opened up. “How do you know of this?” I asked and Nodin’s father looked at me.

“Your father and I worked on many things together. We found this together but I took it into hand to hide Nodin because he was sick all the time but that has not changed,” he sighed. “I cannot tell you things until you find them out yourself, so when the time comes, I will fully tell you about our work together,” he told me and I sighed. I wasn’t going to argue with this man. If he was friend’s with my father, then they must have the same attitude.

“Then, as you know, this tracks every possible creature in the world and this Xenogenesis Labs is behind it all but we are trying to find out why. I want to attract them to us, even if that sounds horrible. Capture one, at least, a scout for all I care. I need to find more. All I have are my father’s notes,” I told him as I put my laptop down and brought my father’s notes out from my pocket. I handed them to Nodin’s father.

“Can you make any sense of these?” I asked him and he took them from me and looked them over, going through the papers that were now soft to the touch because of how much I had looked over them.

“No, I can’t, I’m sorry,” he told me as he handed me them back and I put them back into my pocket. “I’m sorry about your father, by the way.” This is what I was dreading. Sympathy for something I didn’t like to be reminded of. The gunshots rang in my ears again, echoing constantly. I had to block out the memory to look back at Nodin’s father.

“It was a long time ago,” I muttered and he looked at me.

“I remember you and your brother, Charlie, at the funeral. That was the last time I saw you two,” He said quietly, as if remembering something that was very far away.

“Yes... That was the time we ran away afterwards...” I said quietly and Nodin’s father seemed to almost contradict me but he didn’t say anything.

“Well, once you find out the truth, you must contact me. I must go home now and in a month, I will come in and check in on Nodin. Right now, I must catch a plane. I hope you find what you are looking for...” And with that, he left and I took a deep breath, put the memory of my father aside and continued on with the party.

I had Sam help me in the inspection afterwards and I had to admit, he was interesting for a human. He wasn’t that bad, and that’s coming from me. After cooking all day and making sure everything was good with people sneaking leftover breakfast items, we called everybody and started the party slash feast.

I had to admit, it was a lot of fun. I got to know a lot of people and finding out small tidbits about them that bothered them. I had a fun time and I was smiling and being a leader. I knew what to do next. Bellinda even set off some of her flames in the sky like fireworks.

Sebastian had fun while at it too, but at the same time, he was making sure to spend loads of time with Karin. He surprised her with multiple gifts and him getting kissed over all of them. I noticed though the whole time he was trembling and he didn’t even seem to notice and I knew that was bad. Once Sebastian gave me a present, which was a “Kiss the Werewolf” apron, which was a bit funny compared to the one Sebastian gave Griffin, which said, “Kiss the Wyvern,” I grabbed him away and took his drink away so that he could talk to me.

“What?” Sebastian laughed, he being a little tipsy but not too much. He was still in control of his body.

“You’re trembling. I’ve been seeing you tremble ever since you got in, Seb,” I told him and his laugh died and he sighed.

“I haven’t had time in months to feed properly. At most, I get the slight taste of human from the men at Xenogenesis Laboratories and they tasted disgusting, like they test on themselves or something.” That was news to me but Seb didn’t say anything more about Xenogenesis Labs. “I was attacked by them from time to time. I didn’t know what else to do, so I haven’t fed completely in a few months,” Seb sighed and Karin hopped over to us.

“Is everything okay?” She asked and Seb lit up.

“Yep!” That’s when he picked Karin up by her knees, propped her against himself in the air and all Karin did was giggle. Sebastian took her away with him giving me a wink afterwards. I sighed and headed outside after that. I didn’t want to see anymore couple stuff and that seemed to be going on tonight more than I realized. Seeing it more made me wish somebody liked me, but who would like a monster like me?

I didn’t even notice I was right beside the pool until a voice called out to me and I almost fell in. I turned my head towards the voice and saw it was Griffin and Kuroshiro, sitting and talking at one of the tables out here, having a drink. There weren’t a lot of people out here anymore since Bellinda almost started a fire due to her fireworks.

“Come over and join us,” Heiji said and I just blinked before nodding and walking over to them. I sat down in a chair and Heiji poured me a margarita and I smiled a little and took it from him. They both were oddly getting along. Maybe it was just because they were drinking. Probably.

“So what were we talking about again?” Griffin asked and Heiji looked up at the sky for a moment to remember and then looked back at Griffin.

“What girls have asked me out through the decades of full moons and how many girls have asked you out while living in Greece,” Heiji said and that’s when I got up from my chair.

“I’m not going to sit here and listen to guys talk about girls that have asked them out before,” I sighed exasperatedly and that’s when Griffin caught my hand.

“Come on, we’ll talk about something else,” He told me and I sighed and sat down with them.

“Like what?” I asked as I brought the cold glass to my lips and drank a bit of margarita.

“Have you had any guys ask you out?” Griffin asked simply and I just blinked.

“No,” I told him, keeping the drink to my lips.

“Not one?” Heiji asked and I shook my head.

“Not a single one.” This kept them silent for a little bit but they didn’t say anything about the matter afterwards. Instead, they jumped into a conversation about fighting techniques and this was something that I could talk about for hours. As it turned out, we did. We talked about different fighting techniques until we ran out of margarita mix.

“I’ll go inside and make some more,” Heiji said and we just nodded. That’s when I realized it was about 10 or 11 at night. I didn’t even notice. I yawned at the thought and got up.

“I think I’ll head in for the night,” I told Griffin and that’s when he also got up as I started to walk off.

“Hang on a second,” He said as he tried to catch my arm but instead, since he was a little bit drunk, he stumbled and I felt his chest hit my back.

I didn’t really know what happened next because I shut my eyes quickly as we both fell forward and I tried to protect my head. I groaned as it hit the concrete right beside the pool and I kept my eyes shut as Griffin groaned slightly above me. Wait... above me?

That’s when I opened my eyes and saw Griffin right above me, leaning over me. Blood rose to my cheeks and I didn’t know what to do. We both didn’t move. We both just stayed this way and... I liked it.

“Um... I...” Griffin said, now completely out of his drunkenness and awake, the same for me. I stumbled over my words as he did but we both didn’t do anything.

My heart stopped though, when I heard glass drop and break over near the glass doors that went into the mansion.

“YOU PERVERT! ” I heard Heiji yell and that’s when I didn’t see the next move that happened in a blink of an eye. Heiji attacked Griffin.

The push was so hard against Griffin that they were inches away from the pool. I got up immediately. I had no idea why Heiji was so mad unless... oh please don’t tell me...

Heiji threw the first punch but after that, I couldn’t keep track. They were throwing punches and kicks everywhere and I couldn’t keep up and I was getting more and more pissed by the second. Just as Griffin was about to make another break in Heiji’s nose, I went up to both of them and pushed them in the pool. I got wet in the process too as the water went everywhere but I didn’t care. They needed to stop.

Once they surfaced and started to climb out of the pool with regret on their faces, I started to see their wounds. Of course, Griffin’s wings were harmed again, there seeming to be short stabs in it from one of Heiji’s katanas, along with his shoulder being dislocated and his lip and eye being bloody beyond belief. Heiji’s nose was broken, along with his left hand being dislocated and his ear being bloody. I guess Griffin punched there...

“Both of you idiots sit down and I’ll go get the first aid kit,” I sighed and they didn’t say anything but sit down where we were all sitting not too long ago. I headed inside, avoiding the margarita mess, and headed over to the laundry room, where I kept the kit.

Meanwhile, I saw Karin and Sebastian just talking with Sebastian playing with her hair and her ears and both of them just having a good time. Some of the girls were in a collective group, talking about gossip, nonetheless. Dante and Acacia weren’t too far off and Solana seemed really happy with Ace as they sat together and held hands. They both had sodas in hand, probably not wanting to go towards the drinks. I couldn’t blame them. They were a bit strong, even for me.

Once I got the kit, I headed back outside and over to the boys. I started with Griffin and his wings, patching them up like I did in Transylvania. I quickly did a job on Griffin’s wounds while also putting his shoulder back into place. I did a quick job of Heiji too, he looking embarrassed and ashamed of what he did. After I finished, he stood.

“I think I need to sleep off the rest of the aru-coru-horu, if you do not mind,” Heiji said and I just nodded and he headed inside.

That’s when I turned back to Griffin and sighed. I didn’t say anything as I wiped the rest of the blood off his eye and his lip that were still coming from the wound itself. He didn’t say anything as he sat there but all I did was chuckle.

“Silly boy,” I whispered as I looked at his wings and wiped the blood off them with a wet cloth. I don’t know why I concentrated on them for so long but I did and all Griffin did was stare. “What?” I asked him and he just blinked.

“Why are you caring?” He asked me and I looked at him.

“Because I do. I actually do care you know. You really don’t know me,” I told him and he just blinked.

“I guess I don’t,” He said quietly and I just chuckled a little.

“I’ll tell you a secret then,” I told him and he perked up a little. “I don’t hate you,” I laughed and he slightly rolled his eyes, as if expecting that but I’m not completely sure that he was.

That’s when I heard a pining and I turned my head and saw a gray and white she wolf coming over from the woods. I smiled and got up with the first aid kit in hand.

“Um, what are you doing?” Griffin asked and I shushed him as I went over to the she wolf and she seemed to have a lot of matted fur and seemed to be bleeding from multiple bite marks on her side and her neck. There were a lot of scratches on her belly though and that’s when I noticed she was very pregnant too. Wolves only came to the mansion if they needed help, and she desperately needed help.

“Come and help,” I slightly demanded of Griffin and he came over as the wolf collapsed on her side and started to pant heavily. “I need you to clean her wounds. I think she’s about to give birth,” I told him and Griffin seemed stunned for a moment before nodding.

“What is this?” Griffin asked as he got one of the wet cloths and started to clean her scratches. She didn’t protest as Griffin cleaned her wounds and I tried to calm her down.

“What do you mean?” I asked and Griffin looked at me.

“Why did she come here?” Oh.

“Well, wolves come here when they’re in trouble. I made a deal with the wolves out here a while ago that if they were in trouble, I would help them. Not a lot come but when they do, I’m here to help them. They’re like family. Well, when I used to have family,” I sighed slightly and Griffin looked at me intently.

“What do you mean, Akira? Where are the rest of the werewolves of your family?” I stayed quiet as the wolf panted heavily and started to give birth. I didn’t reply for a while as I cleaned off little puppies of blood and other bodily fluids and Griffin kept her calm.

“They’re dead, except my brother,” I told him and Griffin looked at me. “I meant the rest of my family, not the puppies.” Griffin just nodded.

“I am sorry,” Griffin told me and I shook my head.

“It was a long time ago. It’s not that big of a deal anymore,” I told him and Griffin didn’t say anything to the matter. I made sure, once the puppies were out, that they started feeding on the mother and that she kept living. Once I cleaned my hands and Griffin did the same, I sat beside him as I watched the puppies.

I kept watching them with a smile as Griffin watched me. It was odd but in a way, I didn’t mind. I started to drift off and that’s when I felt arms pick me up and I don’t know why, but I curled up in Griffin’s arms as he brought me inside and up to the third floor. He paused at some moment and I don’t know why until I heard his voice.

“What?” Griffin asked and I heard a sigh. It was Heiji’s.

“Just what are your intentions with her in this vulnerable state?” He asked and I blinked my eyes slightly and I saw Griffin narrow his eyes but my eyes closed again from tiredness.

“I have no intentions of her. She’s just merely tired,” Griffin said and Heiji just laughed.

“You do anything to her and you will face me,” Heiji warned and Griffin just laughed. I could hear Heiji walking away now.

“What is your problem? You like her, don’t you?” Griffin asked and Heiji only paused in step. He didn’t say anything. “Of course. It explains a lot more of why you don’t like me.” Heiji didn’t say anything. All he did was walk away. That’s when Griffin did nothing but sigh and then not soon after, I heard a door open and I felt my bed not soon after, but I didn’t want to go to bed now. I had too much on my mind.

Griffin didn’t leave so fast though. I think he stood there for a while, either looking around the room or looking at me or doing both at the same time. After a while, he did leave and go to his room right beside mine. That’s when I got up and started to study things on my desk and look over things, along with writing things down.

I didn’t know what things meant anymore, but I was determined to find out. But I knew one thing for sure. I liked Griffin, but Heiji liked me in the process. It made me wonder what Griffin felt... A lot actually...

That’s when I really realized, for what I had been denying for the longest time, I liked Griffin. A lot. And I had no idea what to do about it.
