Chapter 13

"Come on, please go with me!" Kyo begged, pleading with me using his puppy dog look that he knew I could never say no to. "It'll be fun! I promise! If you don't have fun, we can leave." He put his hands together in a praying-like motion.

I sighed, looking away from him, my arms crossed over my chest. I didn't really feel like a party would be a good idea. I never had really gotten drunk before, but with Vlad hosting the party, I knew there was going to be a ton of drunk people pushing alcohol into my face.

Kyo stepped in front of me, placing a hand on either shoulder. "Come on. You gotta let loose once and awhile. If you don't, where's the fun in that?"

I took a deep breath before I nodded. "Fine," I threw my hands in the air in surrender. "I'll go. But, the moment I get uncomfortable, we're leaving. Promise!" I pointed a finger at him.

He held his hands up in the air in surrender. "Of course. Deal!" He nodded, and moved to my side as we began walking back to the dorms from the music department where Vlad had caught us. "Now, you go to your room and get all prettied up and we can go out and have some fun." I gave him a pointed look and he continued, "You know what I mean."

I nodded. "Ya. Ya. I'll see you in an hour and we can head on over there. Okay?"

He nodded. "I'll be waiting in the lobby in exactly one hour." He would too. Kyo was oddly punctual. I sighed as I headed to my room. I hope the party would be low key. I didn't want to have to deal with too many drunks, but knowing Vlad, it was going to be interesting to say the least.

"Kyo, there are a ton of people here!" I cried as we entered the house. One of Vlad's friends lived off campus in a house because his family was loaded, so they could afford it. People were trickling out the door because there wasn't enough room for everyone inside.

"It's not so bad. Everyone's too caught up in their own thing to bother with you, so just calm down, have a drink, and have some fun," Kyo shrugged as he grabbed a beer from a cooler sitting on one of the tables.

I sighed and grabbed a beer as well before we began mingling with the students that were here. I sipped on the drink as I shifted uncomfortably. I was wearing a skirt that went to my knees and a tight, long sleeved shirt that didn't reveal too much. I felt very much out of place compared to all the other women here who wore very revealing clothes, leaving nothing to the imagination.

"Kyo, I'm going to go to the bathroom," I said, placing a hand on his shoulder to get his attention. He nodded, and I took off.

Coming out of the bathroom, I looked around and didn't see Kyo anywhere. Just great, I thought. He was going to leave me to fend for myself.

Just as I was about to head outside and see if he had wandered out there, I heard a familiar voice. "Hey, I didn't think I would see you here." I glanced up and saw it was Arata, the kid from earlier.

I smiled. "Good evening." I chuckled a bit. "Ya, I feel a bit out of place here. I'm only here because Kyo wanted to come. I figured I should keep an eye out and make sure he doesn't get into trouble."

He smiled down at me. "You didn't peg me as the partying type."

I shook my head. "I'm not. I don't even like to drink much. Just a little here and there. Never gotten drunk!" I admitted proudly.

"You've never gotten drunk before?" he raised an eyebrow at me. "Now that surprises me a little."

I cocked my head at him curiously. "Why does that surprise you?" I thought I looked the part of a good kid as well as acted like it. What made him think otherwise.

He shrugged. "It's just that when I met you on that bus a few years ago, you seemed like you would have drank a lot and not really cared about it."

I frowned, confused as to what he was talking about. "I don't remember very much of anything that happened for the latter part of my life, but I don't think I would have acted any differently than I do now."

He nodded. "Okay, okay. So I was wrong. I'm sorry." He gave me a curious look.

I gave him a sheepish look. "Sorry. I guess I'm a little touchy tonight." I ran a hand through my straight, blonde hair.

"It's ok. I understand." He nodded.

A silence fell between us and it looked like he was going to do something. I waited in anticipation.
