This Is The Part Where I Say "Boo!"

1. Currently listening to Thriller by Michael Jackson. The perfect song to get me in the mood for this Halloween post.

2. I'm well aware that today is Halloween, but for some reason I don't really feel it. Probably because I'm already old, or probably because it was never that much of a tradition here in the first place.

3. Tomorrow, we go to the cemetery to pay our respects for our deceased relatives. Compared to Halloween, this is a tradition that we Filipinos certainly practice in this time of the year.

4. Shameless plug: In Memory of the Dead Bloggers. It's my article from last year's Halloween Writer's Jam. Though it didn't win, it was still a very special essay for the Halloween season.

5. It's Saturday, and the news nuggets section still ain't full of news for this week. Heck, most (if not, all) of the news for this week barely mentions anime. I guess this week is one of those slow news week.

6. I'm going back to school next week, in what will hopefully be my final semester in college --- at least, for the Psychology academic program. Oh boy...

7. Why ain't I too excited for the upcoming semester: (1) The darn thesis; (2) The darn internship, and the darn ongoing search for a company with a human resources department to work in; (3) The darn re-take of my Abnormal Psychology course

8. Oh freaking golly!!! I just realized I need to pre-register for the cosplay event in December! Must pre-register before this day is over!

9. After 6 minutes: Okay, I've sent the pre-registration thru e-mail. I'm not really sure if I'm gonna participate in the actual day of the activity, especially due to my Saturday classes. But hey, they did say I can back out later.

10. "The Mask, what will you even cosplay on that day anyway?" That's a secret. You may already have ideas right now, but the reason I'm keeping my mouth shut is because of the skit that I have already planned on doing. So, sorry.

That's all for today. HAVE A NICE DAY!

And Then, That Was It

I got to watch Michael Jackson's This Is It on Wednesday night. Truly a great experience, since it gave me a wonderful glimpse of what was supposed to be the This Is It concerts.

I was amazed at what was being planned for the concerts. From the bulldozer and tragic mini-film in "Earth Song" to the 1940s-style mini-film for "Smooth Criminal" to the actual performances of the songs ("I'll Be There", "They Don't Care About Us", "Billie Jean", "Man in the Mirror", etc.), it was just so wonderful. Michael didn't perform at his very best, which I understood anyway since he was saving it for the actual thing. And that's why it's also so sad --- this plan would never be materialized because the star has left the world.

I gotta say that this film gave me some closure on Michael Jackson's death, though it's still sad to see that Jackson will never be able to perform the actual concert. It would have been so beautiful and so spectacular. Still, one can't help but be happy because of the display of greatness from the King of Pop.

On other stuff, I do hope some of you can also take on the task of posting news in theOtaku. These past days seem so uneventful in the news nuggets section, so I hope some of you can post some newsworthy stuff there.

Also, I'll be looking for a new place to have my internship in human resources. For now, I have to make my application letter and resume first.

That's all for today. HAVE A NICE DAY.

I've Decided To Walk

Darn, why did my browser had to force me to retype this again...

Anyway, you may have noticed the title I've written for this post. Ah yes, the most common joke for someone who decided not to run for a certain position. And that basically explains what just happened the past week: I will NOT run for President of the university's Psychology Society. My projects in Test Construction and the Active Training Program got in the way, and the certificate of candidacy (with its mandatory essay portion) looked so tiring to fill up that I decided to forget about it. Also, the thought of my practicum and my group thesis next year were also factors that made me not run for any position in the organization. So for those who sang "It's Raining MASK" not too long ago, I'm sorry but I think someone else can do a better job than me. (Hopefully...)

After all, I've had a bad history when it comes to school elections. Back in Grade 5, I lost the election for vice-president of the student council to my best friend (which was no big deal, really). Then in Second Year, I lost the election for vice-president of the student council (again) to the charismatic singer-classmate of mine (which, again, was no big deal and was actually obvious in the first place). In order words, I never won any student council position (which was, if I may quote Gendo Ikari, "irrelevant"). The only elections I ever won were elections for class officers. So yeah, I may like elections, but elections doesn't like me. Pretty odd relationship, huh?

On other stuff, I'm finished with the projects I mentioned above. That gives me more time for my last project. It's basically a "make-you-own-counseling-therapy" project. I already have two ideas in mind and, interestingly, I got one of those ideas from the Darker Than Black ad that was shown here in theOtaku a few months ago.

Also, I'm enjoying my little job as contributor of theOtaku News. I have to admit, though, that I can have a few typos every once in a while. So, I'm sorry for those moments.

Finals exam begin this week and end on Tuesday next week. It's actually less stressful these days since I already took some of the exams earlier or there's no exam at all for some courses. Hopefully though, I can still answer it well.

Lastly, it seems that the first comments I've received in myOtaku seemed to have been recovered. And I still can't help but feel the same way I did before and be a bit pissed at the comments in my first two posts in myOtaku. I know it's been over five years already, but those comments simply gave me a rocky and upsetting welcome to this site, and I can't help but feel that anger I felt before. C'mon, I was still really innocent about myOtaku then, and the last thing I ever expected were words like those thrown at me then. Hopefully, the person who made those comments is doing better these days.

Anyway, that's all for today. HAVE A NICE DAY.

Japan appoints an otaku as Prime Minister

Am I the only guy here in theOtaku who thinks that the latest happening in the Japanese political landscape is news worth spreading? Since the Bootleg News Reporter isn't reporting it yet, let me do it myself.

  • Taro Aso, the Japanese politician who's well known among otakus for being a fan of manga, formally took over as Prime Minister of Japan today. This was the same guy who, as foreign affairs minister, made some notable acts concerning the world of manga, such as announcing the first International Manga Awards, circulating Detective Conan manga pamphlets to explain his ministry's mission, and advising a former French presidential aspirant to "read more manga" after the criticisms that guy made about it.
