Damn, I'm Getting Badass

Oh, Light Yagami. What have you done to The Mask?

First of all, this week's my first week of classes for the second semester. Not much to say, except that the crap of the conflicts in the old enrollment system has caused a lot of problems to me, which occurred in some sort of a domino effect. Hopefully, things will be under control in the next few days.

Anyway, a lot of you probably know me for being a fan of "good guy" anime characters, namely Kenshin, Conan, Ippo, and Onizuka. Well, Onizuka ain't exactly a "good guy", but he's close to it. Plus, the fact that no character from Major was included is an indication that their characters did not catch enough of my attention to be a fan of them (although Goro, Toshiya, and some other characters are getting close to making me become their fan).

Now though, I noticed that I'm starting to like some "bad guy" anime characters. First of course was Light Yagami, your moralistically deadly high school student carrying a Death Note. As I've said before, he had many of the qualities that I find admirable in a person, and even though he was a serial killer I liked him more than L. If he was a real person, I'd be in L's side though, but I'd like to acquaint with the guy.

Recently, I'm starting to be at awe with Gendo Ikari. I've heard many people call this Neon Genesis Evangelion character as one of the biggest a**holes in anime history. Now I haven't seen the series, even though it's popular and a decade old, but by hearing those testimonials and by just looking at images of the guy, I was like, "Damn, what a cool guy! He's badass!". It now gives me a reason to get my hands on the anime series soon.

And lastly, we have Lelouch. With a character similar to Light, and a feud with Suzaku that's comparable to the feud of Light and L, chances are that I might learn to like the guy. And now that Code Geass is now available in free TV in my country, the possibilities are pretty much endless.

Man, is this a sign of the loss of the childhood innocence of my old self? Then again, I'm in the legal age already, so what would I expect? These kinds of characters are even giving me reason to once again step into professional wrestling and be a wrestling manager with a character similar to Light and Gendo. So yeah...my fandom for badass anime dudes might stay for a long time.

Beatles and TM Revolution

- I'm just sad that out of all the people who dared to read my fan word on Death Note songs created to the tune of The Beatles, only one guy dared to give a comment. (And thanks again for that, wolf of sorrow.) Does this really mean that many don't have a clue about The Beatles, or at least the songs they made? *sigh*

- On the plus side, I'm glad that one of my questions for T.M. Revolution (the guy that sang "Heart of Sword" in Samurai X, among other things) actually got asked by Adam. My question's the "semi-serious revolution" question (if I may borrow SomeGuy's words). The article is available here.

- And that's about it for today. I might be posting in Only in Asia today. Just watch out for it.

And the Death Note Fandom Continues . . .

Currently watching a Death Note AMV featuring the Beatles song, "Eleanor Rigby", although I gotta say that at times I'm tempted to simply listen to the song. Eversince David Cook sang that in American Idol, I learned to like that song.

---

Speaking of Beatles and Death Note, as you can see below I've made some little jingles or songs (whatever you wanna call them) for "Death Note" using hits from The Beatles. For those songs, I used hits from The Beatles. I actually enjoyed making and singing it. I gotta say though that when I sang "Yesterday" while thinking of Light's final moments, I actually felt pretty gloomy. Such a beautiful song, such a sad scene.

---

Anyway, you guys may be thinking that I care more about the character of Light Yagami and less of L. Well, that doesn't seem to be the case. Last Sunday, while it was raining mildly and me and my brother were getting wet while going to a Net cafe after attending mass, I had the nerve to bend my knees, widen my eyes, and do the "L walk". (Click here to learn how to be L.)

I went so far in doing the L impression that when my mom called me in my cellphone, I answered it the way L would answer it. It was pretty fun, but my brother didn't think so since some people were looking at me and wondering "What's up with this moron?"

---

Light's fate still saddens me, and at times makes me cry. I guess that's what happens when you see the ideal self you've always dreamed of die like that and suffer that destiny. If only I would get a chance to make a Filipino live-action adaptation, I would've given a less depressing ending to Light, and even to the other characters in the show. How will I do that? That's for a later post.

---

At times, I feel quite gloomy when I think of Death Note while I go to sleep. Makes me think of life, death, and life after death. At times, it gives me some sort of heart attack. But as that ending song said, "I must not be affected by these negative things."

---

On a lighter note, I found this interesting vid from YouTube. Now, I'm not much of a fan of Death Note jokes and parodies because of the gloomy mood and the thought-provoking impact that it has brought me. However, this vid was so damn good that I enjoyed it.

So without further adieus, here's DeathSponge NotePants:

Death Note Does The Beatles: A Song Tribute

Death Note is arguably one of the best anime and manga series of all time, and is shaping up to become a legend in the anime world. And now that the series has already concluded, it seems fitting that we pay tribute to this amazing series. Thus, here is a song tribute for Death Note. And what better way to do this than to use the hits from one of the great legends of the music industry, The Beatles.

I Won (Tune: I Will)
This song pays tribute to L, the greatest detective in the world. Throughout the series, we have seen L's desire to find the mass murderer Kira no matter what it takes. This song presents L's wish to defeat Kira. (Click here for original lyrics and music video.)

Who knows how long I've sought you?
You know I want you still.
Though I'll wait a lonely lifetime,
I will go and stop you kill.

And if I ever saw you,
I didn't catch you there.
But it never really mattered.
I will seize you soon, beware.

Find you forever and forever.
Find you with all I've got.
Find you whenever we're together.
Find you when we're apart.

And when at last I find you,
Your loss will fill the air.
Shout it loud so they can hear you.
Make it easy to arrest you.
For the guys you've killed
Appealed you to me.
Now, you know I've won.
I won.

Coda:
La la la la la la
La la la la la la

With My Note (Tune: In My Life)
This next song is a tribute to Light Yagami, the main character of the story. As Kira, he was determined to cleanse the world and to become its new god. He was willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his dream. This song presents this mindset that Light had. (Click here for original lyrics and music video.)

I.
There were people I've encountered
In my life, and they were killed.
Some were robbers, some were slayers.
Some were jailed and some were free.

Refrain:
All these people did injustice
With neighbors and friends, I still can recall.
All are dead and none are living.
With my Note, I've killed them all.

II.
But of all these thieves and killers,
There is no one compares with L.
And their murders lose their meaning
When I think of L as someone dead.

Refrain 2:
Though I know I'll never be in heaven
For sinners and goons that I have killed,
I know you'll often stop to thank to Kira.
With my Note, I've changed the world.

(Instrumental)

(Repeat Refrain 2)

With my Note, I've changed the world.

Death Note to Write (Tune: Ticket to Ride)
This last song depicts the defeated Light Yagami's final moments in Earth. This song will adhere more on the ending of the series in the original manga. If you hated Light throughout the series, singing the song with the original Beatles tune will be right for you. (Click here for original lyrics and music video.) If, however, you were a fan of Light just like me, I would suggest that you sing this with the melodious and slightly revised Carpenters version. (Click here for original lyrics and music video.) Also, when you sing this song, try to pronounce the name Ryuk as one word.

I.
I think I'm gonna be dead.
I think it's today.
The dream that's driving me mad
Is going away.

Chorus:
Ryuk's got a Death Note to write
Ryuk's got a Death Note to write
Ryuk's got a Death Note to write
And put my name

II.
I guess that begging to him
Is bringing me down,
'Coz he would never aid me
When I have a frown.

(Repeat Chorus)

Refrain:
I don't know when I'm leaving this world.
I want to live twice, I want to get out from this.
And now, my heart is saying goodbye.
I want to live twice, I want to get out from this.

(Repeat I & Chorus)

(Repeat Refrain)

(Repeat II & Chorus)

My death god won't care
My death god won't care
My death god won't care
My death god won't care

Yesterday
I added this as a bonus to this song tribute. Like the previous song, this also portrays the last moments of the life of Light Yagami, but puts more focus on his thoughts on that painful period of his life. No altering in the lyrics is necessary, since it is perfect just the way it is. (Click here for lyrics and music video.)

And that ends the magical mystery tour in the memory lane of Death Note. I hope you enjoyed it. And I hope we can cherish the great things that the series gave us in our hearts.

The Mask. Age: 18

First of all, thanks a lot to the well-wishers who greeted me in advance for my birthday.

Anyway, yeah I'm officially 18. Now I'm in the legal age. The age where the line between adolescence and adulthood becomes thinner and thinner.

Remember that thought that I shared yesterday when I thought it was sad for me to become older than Shinichi Kudo, the Detective Conan character whom I had considered as the amazing big brother that I never had? Well, last morning I actually spent time crying over that fact in the bathroom. I guess that fact is just a bit hard to accept for me.

Today, I did what I thought I would never be able to do in my birthday: I CELEBRATED IT WITH MY CLASSMATES! Since it's summer vacation, it has been a tradition for me to celebrate it without any classmates beside me. But since there was a photoshoot and a meeting for the campus's Psychology Society (which I am a part of), I decided to use the opportunity to do something that I have never done in my 18 years here on Earth.

In the end, I managed to treat five of my fellow members (one of them an old high school colleague of mine) to burger and ice tea at the popular fastfood chain Jolibee, which was near the campus. I gotta adit though that I wished that I just treated them for Chinese siomai and rice at a cheap cafeteria near the campus, but that realization came into my senses when I saw how expensive the burger and ice tea was. (I spent PHP 230 or US$ 5). But what the heck, it was still fun!

And, yeah, I made another post in Only in Asia, this time on a Japanese cartoon on potty training. Also, I submitted a Rurouni Kenshin article that compared my favorite character, Kenshin Himura, to my favorite politician, Dr. Ron Paul. Hopefully, the guys at the Fan Words business will approve it.

And so that ends my Birthday post for today. As my gift to you, here is the 1st ending song of the anime series Death Note entitled "Aluminia". I'm showing this because it has become the new theme song of my life, with lyrics telling me that I can still do a lot in my life. Enjoy!
