Hey, at least you can use this job to augment your resume for future references right? Being part of the editorial staff seems like a good thing to put in your work experiences section of your resume when you're looking for a career job in the future ^^
Relax... it's not much of a trouble. You got the position because you can write good features, commentaries and stuff. I suck at writing news as well. I got the editorial staff position (associate editor) because of feature articles and commentaries... I mostly work on the literary folio as well. My skill as a graphic artist also got honed a bit during the time I was working on the literary arts.
Congratulations. I know you'll do great. Heck, I'm not even updated with current events much when I was going to school (even less now for I rarely reach evening news nor the energy to watch late night news)
Hmm, editor's a pretty big responsibility. The terms "staff" and "board" seems to imply (to me, anyways) that the board is higher up, so possibly the editor chooses which articles to put in the paper and checks spelling/grammar.
But I've never worked with a newspaper or anything of the like before, so don't take my word as fact.
