Oh man, that sounds really hard. ;A; I don't know how to help you... maybe you could just start out by writing as descriptive a thing as you can about just any old hands, to get the feel of what you're getting into, and then tailor it to Luffy's hands. Maybe have a thing like "this scar is from blahdeblah that happened" or something.
