Define "honest grief."
I thought there were some unreasonably exaggerated points, too, but for the most part, taking the context of the series being set in a virtual world with the inhabitants being teenagers portrayed with anime-standard personalities into consideration, the series had roughly normal levels of feelings and emotional turbulence.
They kill me the most in this anime.
Even though its a game, but there are lives taken in the game--the feels seem incredibly exaggerated.
There's too much crying and not enough honest grief to me.
Yeah but it also creates massive feels (at least, for me). Watching SAO, then seeing what happened in ALO, pretty much ripped out my soul, so I'm kind of scared that GGO is going to do the same thing. I love watching anime that is put-together well enough to evoke an emotional response from me, but the sheer intensity of feelings associated with SAO is a lot, even for me.
It's not that I don't like the Marty-Stus, but it just bothers me how Kirito tends to get the short stick because of his OPness. Like that first dungeon where all of his teammates were killed back in SAO. And pretty much everything that happened to Asuna between the end of SAO and the end of the ALO conflict.
The mistake of mischaracterization.
By that, I mean that, they're trying to make Sinon seem to be this badass sniper prodigy, but every time Kirito gets involved she bitches out.
Especially to the part we're on now.
On the contrary, I liked the fact that Kiriot is a Marty-Stu, he deserves it. Its weird to me how nobody likes the Marty-Stus but damn-near worship Haruhi Suzumiya.
That mistake being what? Cuz I had a serious problem with them repeating the basic plot in SAO (get stuck in game, have to defeat some crazy guy on some impossible level, Kirito proceeds to pwn everyone and be totally OP) between getting through SAO and ALO.
I'd say watch it.
It cleaned up a lot of stuff from season 1 but I hate to say that in my opinion, they are repeating one mistake that I really dislike.
I'd love to see you do a Live Reaction to GGO. I've been wanting to watch it, but I'm trying to decide whether I wanna hold out and wait for them to dub it or just watch the sub.

@Kazamas-Keyblade:
I did hear good things, though, about how GGO is going so far.

Yeah, and since we're in the Second Season, there's no room for that effect to work twice.

Yeah, you do have a point. It can get a little excessive and cheesy at certain points.

TBH I pulled those two words without really thinking about it.
"Anguish" would have been a better word.
I mean the "emotions" that are portrayed in the anime seems incredibly exaggerated.

Really?
I think it makes him better than the average air-head.
Gives him a lot of character-development, and we get a lot of that in GGO.
