Beautiful Day

She smiled. Smiled to those days.
Those days that had passed like a fleeting bubble.

Her footsteps accompanied the rhythm of her steady, flowing tears as she walked slowly along the bridge. Her breath came out in short gasps and hiccups. Her eyes shining, she looked to the sky.

To the clouds. To the birds that flew by.

She let out a hiccup. It’s such a beautiful day, she thought.

It was indeed a wonderful day. The sky was a bright blue, flocked by white fluffy clouds. In the distance, there were little children playing and laughing. Couples were taking walks along the tiny paths. The park was lit with happiness and brilliance.

But somehow, she did not feel that way.

She drew in a short breath. She had finally reached the middle of the bridge. There was no one around her, only at the ends of the bridge. As she looked at the shimmering river in front of her, she felt the urge to lean to the railing of the bridge.

As she did, the children’s laughter echoed in her ears. It was pure, magical music that would melt anyone’s heart.

Yet again, she did not feel that way.

She leaned further, still watching the river. Her tears began to cease its flow. She once again looked at the sky and mouthed a silent prayer. Memories started to flood her mind.

Again, she remembered those happy moments and smiled.
Smiled to those days that had faded away.

It’s such a pity…

With that thought, she climbed over the railing and jumped. She felt the wind streaming past her cheeks. Tears brimmed her eyes as she continued her last thought.

…that everything would have to end on such a beautiful day.

The children’s laughter turned into screams as her body hit the water.
