Ok so this is my first world and i decided to make it on my favorite type of music, Ska. Ska is a genre of music, created by Jamaican's back in the 1950's. Originally ska combined many different genres of music like mento, american jazz, rythym and blues. Ska dominated the Jamaican music scene throughout the early until the late 1960's. The name is derived from a certain kind of guitar sound.
There are three different ska movements, the first is the traditional ska, which in my opinion sounds the most like reggae. then there is the two-tone ska which originated in england, some of you may be familiar with the specials or the toasters. and finally there is the third wave/ska revival. which is where ska started to re-grow in the US and actually become quite popular. it is also where ska started blend with other types of music like jazz and rock and all types, even Japanese music 0_o haha. you may have herd of reel big fish of streetlight manifesto? maybe less than jake? they are all third wave ska bands, and in my opinion are all amazing
Ska promotes unity throughout all the people in the world and i believe by spreading the word of ska the world can become a much better place
so i hope you all enjoy my first world
if you have any questions about ska and anything relating to it feel free to ask away, no question is turned away haha.

Madness are an English pop/ska band from Camden Town, London, that formed in 1976. As of 2008, the band have continued to perform with their most recognised lineup of seven members, although their lineup has varied slightly over the years. They were one of the most prominent bands of the late-1970s 2 Tone ska revival.
Madness achieved most of their success in the 1980s. Both Madness and UB40 spent 214 weeks on the UK singles charts over the course of the decade, holding the record for most weeks spent by a group in the 1980s UK singles charts. However, Madness achieved this in a shorter time period (1980-1986).
You have probably heard one of Madness' songs without even realizing it was Ska. The song "Our House" was very popular in the 80's and i doubt that half the people who listened to it knew it was Ska. Even when i tried telling my dad that this song was Ska he wouldnt believe me. Also some other common songs by Madness is "My Girl" and "It Must Be Love."
So go look em' up! the myspace is here ---> Madness!
YAY! its almost thanksgiving!...But thats not why we are happy right?! its because of The Band Of The Week!!!. This weeks band...Big D and the Kids Table!
Big D and the Kids Table is a third wave ska band formed in October 1995 in Allston, Massachusetts when its members converged in college. Their first release was on their own Fork In Hand Records label, but have since teamed with Springman Records and SideOneDummy. The band has been noted for its strict DIY work ethic, such as engineering, producing, and releasing their own albums and videos and self-promotion of their own shows.
In 2000 the band recorded a gangsta rap album and distributed it unofficially via cassette tape. In 2003 the album was officially released on CD through Fork In Hand.
They have played 200 shows a year on average in support of such bands as Less Than Jake, Streetlight Manifesto, Catch 22, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Dropkick Murphys, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Mustard Plug, Rancid, Alexisonfire, and Anti-Flag and have become a regular performer on the Warped Tour. The band has also performed in the Summer of Ska Tour 2006 and the Ska Is Dead tour.
They have also recorded splits with Melt Banana from Japan, Brain Failure from China, Drexel, and Lounge.
In the fall and winter of 2007 the band embarked on their first-ever large scale headlining tour, The Steady Riot Tour. They have made several music video variations for their cover of The Specials' song "Little Bitch".
So there you have it! The myspace doesnt have too many songs but theres enough to go get an idea. Myspace
