I just went with someone to get his Albertan equivalent to a state ID. He paid roughly $40, but that was his first time getting it. As for renewals, I have no idea.
At least you didn't get caught in the ID Loop of Death: You need photo ID before you can get another one, but you don't have photo ID. Good times, good times.
Hmm, let's see . . . in BC, a provincial ID is $35 for 5 years, with $15 for replacement/renewal. 5 year driver's is . . . $75 for new or renewal - sick, I need to do that next year . . .
Gotta do what ya gotta do. But yes, absolutely feel free to feel gross about it.
And as I turned I saw his silhouette in the doorway, a professional yet somehow mischievous build. He stared at me through his thick, rounded spectacles and grinned calmingly. I shall never forget his soothing monotone, whispering that beautiful phrase....
It's called "hosing you for moar monies"... since that's one of the snide ways they like to bring in extra revenue, by jacking the prices of things they shouldn't.

The DMV is such a surreal place. Feels like I've wandered into some strange alternate universe of bureaucracy whenever I go there.

States are dicks. It's $20 for a State ID here (good for five years), $30 for a driver's license.
