I've been on myO since... since about 2003 or so. I've been a longtime member I think. So I want to know what's going on with myO, and why I'm being abandoned, it stinks, and I want answers, and solutions too.
Giving VV a virtual monopoly over things by leaving myO to rot is not the way. Having 2 competitive ways for people to blog, interact, and connect with eachother will essentially give you the ability to draw twice as many people to your sites Adam! Having a bigger audience lets you have a bigger market share and more people out there to buy into things like your premium service, and up your hit count to make those advertising dollars multiply. It's not just good service to those of us who are already on myO, but it's also a good service to attract new people who are looking for something different and BETTER than myspace and facebook, in short, it's good business.
When I first joined, I had no idea about theO! Zilch, Nada. I looked around to see people's MyO sites and I thought it looked really fun to be able to post and make new friends all over the world.
You could actually say that was why I joined in the first place. I am an artist, but making friends in a world-wide community appealed more to me than posting up my fanworks, ya know?
How are we supposed to get to know eachother through our fandom alone? We have to actually talk, or post, to be more exact.
I think it's all gone to Adam's head over the past couple of years:
Since people were flocking in to join MyO, it's partner TheO became more popular too. He might've wanted to expand on the art side of things to promote it further, to simply gain more audience.
But now he has done it too much, and now he's completely forgotten about the lovely people who made this place awesome XD
Yeap, it's all in his head. Like I said, he wants to attract more people, but by doing so, he is losing even more people because MyO isn't being upgraded. That's everyone's home, and they aren't too happy that it was left in the dark *nods*

This was a very powerful essay, Yug!! And I agree with most points!! I sent this to one of my friends that feels very strongly the same way. *nods* I hope that she comes here and reads this and also shares her point!
I'm not sure what else to add...sure, I could add little complaints about what's lacking, like with the stupid backroom...there's no friendslist that lets you know when everyone last updated. It's pointless! You can't see if someone updated the other day...it's very easy to miss people's posts. Also, you never know who's going to stay on VV and who's staying on MO. It's all very confusing. VV also doesn't create a very helpful environment. There's no FAQ page that helps those that first arrive. I've gotten SO many questions about how to do everything on here...I might as well be the tour guide. XD
*hugs* I'm not sure if we're being ditched or what, but it kind of seems that way. We still have that pathetic comment box on MO...no PM system there, etc. I understand Adam not wanting to go through the trouble of totally revamping MO after doing all this work on theO, but still...those little things could be fixed. Many people that defend VV use the excuse, "You guys should stop whining. At least he kept MO. Any other sane web designer would completely delete MO." Sure, he was GOING to get rid of it...but he didn't for our sakes, those that loved MO and didn't want to miss those memories. :( I give him that...but still...
You get the point. I think you wrote something very true! I hope that more people read this! I don't think we can do anything about anything, but it's still good to get these ideas out there. Because I can see both sides of the story...and there are many valid points in both, but argh!!! We love MO! I like how clean and new VV looks, but again, there are many things I don't like. XD
