Hi I'm Dranzerstorm
You may remember me as a regular contestant on the caption battle contest.
Welcome to Retro Retrospective, my world dedicated to the old guard of the Otaku world; expect some reviews of the old & obscure, and in-depth geeky knowledge with the occasional top ten and I now have a logo.

Little info about me
Well I'm British and I'm in to all things animated and nostalgia.
I've grown up with every cartoon going and have watched hundreds of anime.
Oh and to answer a question I was asked once, no I don't wear glasses in real life, I would wear Loke's sunglasses though.

Top 25 Worst Female Anime Characters

Okay, I don't remember if I ever did this kind of list but it's been long over due, so time for worst female anime characters, yes there is a male characters list it's just ten times longer and harder to shorten into a top ten.
Updated: Tomo Takino from Azumanga Daioh is now forgiven in favour of a much worst character.

25. Kirino Kosaka from Oreimo
Do I really need to give a reason? But for those who didn't see it lets just say she's pretty much patient zero of the little sister craze and gives otaku a bad name.

24. Nina Einstein from Code Geass
She makes me really uncomfortable, she's a racist with unstable emotions, capable of building nuclear weapons and her unhealthy obsession led to her pleasuring herself with a table.

23. Honoka Kousaka from Love Live
She is no different to about 50 other female protagonists and yet I fail to grasp her popularity.

22. Kohana Aigasaki from Magic Kyun Renaissance
Kohana is proof that not even female harem protagonists work, her problem is she's just a wilting flower ready to faint, I even call her anti feminist just for how weak a female she is.

21. Flay Allster from Gundam Seed
Turned against her boyfriend using emotional manipulation to bed Kira Yamato, while alot of this can be pinned down to loss of her father there's only so much you can get away with.

20. Petralka Eldant III from Outbreak Company
What is it with bratty monarchs? No where near as bad as Louise but in her case her voice was ten times worse rather than her actual actions.

19. Sarah McDougal from Love Hina
The series was worse for her appearance as she contributed nothing to the plot other than a distraction.

18. Kodachi Kuno from Ranma 1/2
Speaking of contributing nothing, Kodachi was the weakest for personality among the cast of females who were after Ranma, an extra character no one really asked for especially when her brother was a better show stealer.

17. Sakura from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Oh Clamp what did you do? You turned one of the best female characters in Anime history into a boring princess who can't do anything, plot or not, she derserved better than this.

16. Miyabi Aizawa from Great Teacher Onizuka
This is the case of manga vs anime for this character, she leads the crusade against all teachers in her class, pushing away anyone who fails her all because one teacher wouldn't notice her, the anime version is a bit more complicated but either way her actions as a bully are unforgivable, particularly when all the teachers before Onizuka were just trying to do their job and didn't deserve to be driven out.

15. Mizuki Takase from Comic Party
Anyone who knows my works knows how much I hate Comic Party and it's because of this character.

14. Haruhi Suzumiya from Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Same reason as Tomo but way more annoying, I even wonder how the others put up with her.

13. Female Maze from Maze the Megaburst Space
She is basically gender swap Shinji Ikari. Even dresses like him.

12. Zazie Rainyday from Negima
She did absolutely nothing for 90% of the franchise and when she does do something it's not clear that it's even her, she speaks less lines than a monster of the week on Sailor Moon and finally, her role could've been done by a better character. What a waste.

11. Inaho Hitomebore from Master of Mosquiton
Annoying voice, annoyingly selfish, treats her beloved vampire like a slave and incapable of ever being liked by anyone, I'm glad she never gets a happy ending.

10. Reccoa Londe from Zeta Gundam
She joined the Titans by choice, who does that? Then she gassed and killed an entire colony. Then she dies blaming men for her bad choices. You are making worst Gundam characters look noble.

9. Yasuna Oribe from Kill Me Baby
She's that irritating friend who keeps annoying you to the point of snapping, the only reason she's not higher is because she gets what she deserves whenever her friend Sonya does snap.

8. Charlotte LinLin from One Piece
Big Mom is a terrible villain, in a series where the biggest villains can change the world in one battle, Big Mom is just a glorified psychopath with practically no respect for her ridiculous family and were supposed to judge her on the same level as Whitebeard.

7. Isanami from Brave 10
Probably the most pathetic female character to ever come out of a shounen anime in my entire reviewing career. She's pandering, she's a coward, she's useless, she can't do anything without Saizo and when she does do something, she goes all wilting flower and woobie on us. Just terrible.

6. Louise from Familiar of Zero
Worst tsundere ever, it's bad enough she smacks around Saito for the littlest hiccup but justifies it by using her nobility status saying that Saito is less than human to her, the only reason she's not higher is because Saito is dumb enough to still fall for her.

5. Kaede Sakura from Kampfer
She drove the entire plot of Kampfer by turning Natsuru into a girl, yet thinks boy Natsuru loves girl Natsuru. Lets not forget her horrible taste in stuffed animals and the fact that her villain reveal just destroys any dignity the show had.

4. Ringo Oginome from Mawaru Penguindrum
Falls in love with her older sister's former lover who is also her teacher in an insane plot that thinks that by doing this her family will come back together going as far as drugging and attempting to rape him and all she can say is crap about Destiny!

3. Malty Melromarc from Rising of the Shield Hero
My inspiration for this list, in the first episode she robs the main character of everything and gets him falsely accused of rape and still spends more of the series continuously tormenting him and yet this is considered a point of controversy in the anime community because of the whole funimation case. Saying that her comeuppance is so satisfying, spoilers she gets stripped of her name and title for her crimes and gets renamed Bitch.

2. Akito Sohma from Fruits Basket
Yes she counts despite the first anime ending before the reveal of this fact. I get that Mental Health is a complex emotion that can hurt people unintentionally but Akito's is so extreme that the line between unintentional and outright bitch gets crossed, the other characters did nothing to warrant her aggression, it made that part of the manga really hard to read, worst thing about it is some fans actually like her. Why?
The anime doesn't do her any favours as there is no talk of her backstory so she just comes off as a villain without a cause, which is even worst.

1. Ume Shiraume from Ben-To
But this is by far the worst female character ever. She beats up main character Sato for no reason not even for comedy, she abducts other women to be her dress up doll and play thing and the anime gives her a full episode that is 50 Shades uncomfortable where she seduces comedy relief Hana Oshiroi against her will in the most cringy yuri scene in anime history. I had a hard time returning to ecchi anime after this. Worst thing about it, she gets away with it; everyone else at least gets punished.

Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket Review

Of all the Gundam stuff taken off project 1000, this title stayed so I can talk about it.

With the one year war nearing it's end, Zeon become suspicious of a prototype Gundam being developed by the Earth Federation which they fail to destroy leading them to the neutral colony of Side 6; after a skirmish in the colony, Zeon ace Bernie crash lands in woods being discovered by a child named Alfred, a boy with a romantic view of warfare not seemingly bothered by which side Bernie is on. Alfred being quite a devious child, charms his way into helping Bernie so he can play soldier even dragging in Christina, the prototype Gundam test pilot with neither pilot aware of each others intentions. With no other teammates, Bernie is told to destroy the prototype or Zeon nuke the colony leading to a conclusion which can only end in tears for Alfred as he realizes how horrific war is.
Gundam is no stranger to portraying war in it's most realistic form but this is the only time where it really works as an anti war message.
I remember reading a book called the Machine Gunners which has a group of evacuee children discovering a shotdown nazi pilot and persuading him to help construct a machine gun for them only for it to end as tragically and in pretty much the same way as this OVA did. The kids in the story share the same wide eyed romantic view of war as Alfred does having been sheltered from the conflict in an untouched area of the world, it's not uncommon for kids to behave like this, even now in peace time as the likes of Call of Duty has replaced the sheltered evacuee areas in giving kids these exciting scenarios to play soldier, in essence nothing has changed. In regards to Gundam when Alfred does have a dose of reality he can't bring himself to play soldier anymore while his friends continue their naive view of war.
War in the Pocket captures everything perfectly without going too melodramatic or making the Mobile Suit battles the focus, this is a civilian who finds out the hard way what war really is and there's only really one way to end this story, tragically.
Dub is decent and acted well for the most part.
My only issue is I wanted to learn more about Christina but she fails to appear in any future Gundam series.
Final Verdict: This OVA is an essential watch for any Gundam fan and even a fan of this genre, it let's the story and it's leads do all the work and what you get is the best anti war anime you'll ever find.

Top 100 Anime 90-86

I'm starting to pick up the pace again so keep checking in.

90. Konosuba
With all the most recent fantasy epics relying on hyper competent heroes it's a refreshing change of pace to see a series with pathetic excuses for heroes particularly Aqua who steals the show in pathetic.

89. Angelic Layer
Clamp's only real shonen title makes brilliant work of fight choreography that can compete with the best of that genre, all of that from a show about dolls.

88. 08th Mobile Suit Team
Gundam has it's fair share of takes on war but when it came to making it more realistic the first to conquer realism closer to real life feelings of war is the 8th Mobile Suit Team, a desperate band of mercenaries trying to prevent the Gundam being discovered.

87. Blue Exorcist
If you're the son of the dark lord of all evil and you become a target of unfair hatred then what do you do? Become an Exorcist and declare war on Satan. An anime that really teaches you to stand up for yourself.

86. Excel Saga
The parody series that put anime comedy on the map, if it existed before year 2000 it was made fun of, all through the eyes of an evil dictators bonkers minions wait a minute. Excel, Minion oh god Minions ripped off Excel Saga.

Top 100 Anime 100-96

Finally we start our list going from the very back.

100. Mobile Suit Gundam
Going back to a simpler time where giant robots were everywhere, story telling in this genre changed with the arrival of Gundam. Taking the formula to a proper gray area war.

99. Nadia Secret of Blue Water
Adapting major western novels is no easy feat and Nadia keeps it authentic to the source material all the while playing up the spectacle.

98. Noir
An intriguing mystery plot revolved around two hired guns set to the backdrop of Noir Europe more than earning it's title and one of the best soundtracks to grace an anime.

97. Segua Hard Girls
I'm a pretty big Sega fan and this mini series became a no brainer for this list. The characters are adorable, the comedy is fun and it really leaves you in a good mood.

96. Astroboy
The Tezuka classic that's often considered the first proper anime series. It's story has been through multiple redesigns but always seems to stand up well, even in the modern era

Bottom 25 Gundam Pilots

Now for the worst pilots, same criteria.

25. Riddhe Marcenas from Gundam Unicorn
He didn't need to kill Marida Cruz and the whole Newtype hating is getting old now.

24. Gyunei Guss from Char's Counterattack
Sounds like he's called goose, also fairly underwhelming for a member of Char's team.

23. Trowa Barton from Gundam Wing
Anyone can pilot Heavyarms, nothing but guns and missiles standing still with an occassional army knife.

22. Kou Uraki from Stardust Memory
GATO!!!! GATO!!!! Shut up!!!!

21. Rosamia Badam from Zeta Gundam
Psycho Gundam pilot, very forgettable.

20. Elle Viano from ZZ Gundam
Of the Double Zeta crowd she's the most underwhelming, at least Beecha Oleg had some leadership qualities.

19. M'Quve from Gundam
The Gyan was a fine machine, pity he cared more for a stupid vase than his own life.

18. Emma Sheen from Zeta Gundam
Started in the Titans and had the sense to leave but never really improved as a character.

17. Gentle Chapman from G Gundam
He's meant to be a multiple Gundam Fight Champion but he's so underwhelming as a threat.

16. Slegger Law from Gundam
Never been a fan of the whole cowboy dandy style character who's ready for cannon fodder, any wonder no one remembers him.

15.Glemy Toto from ZZ Gundam
Had some guts to challenge Haman Karn but is really weak compared to other characters in Neo Zeon such as Cello and Haman that many of his challenges are forgettable.

14. Shinn Asuka from Gundam Seed Destiny
Undeserving of the Gundam Destiny and in dire need of a punch to the face.

13. Four Murasame from Zeta Gundam
Psycho Gundam is very unforgiving to it's pilots and the whole going insane Cyber Newtype trait got old very quick.

12. Katz Kobayashi from Zeta Gundam
Completely unsuited for combat and deserved his death in the end.

11. Yzak Joule from Gundam Seed
Spent a good portion of the series crying over a cut to his face, Dilandau he isn't.

10. George De Sand from G Gundam
A poor imitation of the funnels from the Qubeley really doesn't do this Gundam justice and is the most underwhelming of the Shuffle Alliance.

9. Jerid Messa from Zeta Gundam
I kind of feel slightly bad for Jerid always losing but in the end he brought it on himself for being a Titan.

8. Hallelujah Haptism from Gundam 00
The dumbest name ever to be used in Gundam and not even a likeable character.

7. Lalah Sune from Gundam
Got dragged into the whole One Year War because she had newtype powers and died pretty quickly and cheaply.

6. Kamille Bidan from Zeta Gundam
He could've avoided much of his misfortune, the loss of life and the many disasters that befell him if he wasn't so butthurt over someone making fun of his name. Real hero Kamille, real hero. *Sarcastic clapping*

5. Quess Paraya from Char's Counterattack
Poor substitute of all previous Psycho Gundam pilots Lalah Sune and Elpeo Purus. Worst of the lot.

4. Hathaway Noa from Char's Counterattack
Joins the battle and kills Chan Agi in a rage. Only sortie and you kill your ally. Dumbass!

3. Graham Aker from Gundam 00
Started as a reasonable rival character to Setsuna only to turn into the world's worst Char Clone with a dopey name like Mr Bushido. Not helped by a dreadful Mobile Suit Design.

2. Reccoa Londe from Zeta Gundam
Joined the Titans by choice from the AEUG.......Considering their terrible history why?!?!? Was Scirocco really that appealing? Terrible life choice there.

1. Garrod Ran from Gundam X
A friend of mine responded to Gundam X like this. "What's a Gundam X?" That's kind of the reason why he's number one. No one really cares for Gundam X, Garrod Ran as a character himself isn't really the best either, he's full of himself and doesn't have a great voice. He's meant to be a lead character as well.
