Retro Retrospective: Will continue with it's regular reviews, couple of which are ready to go.

5. Fairy Tail
My favourite shonen anime, a showcase of the best fight scenes anime can muster, with all the raw emotion that comes with some of the best performances from the voice actors.
4. Precure Franchise
The perfect magical girl franchise with a rich history between it's various Precure teams only rivalled by Power Rangers, not a single series can be considered bad and it's the magical girl show that says "girls can punch just as well as men"
3. Dirty Pair
My very first anime. A retro blend of over the top sci fi through the eyes of it's destructive heroines. It doesn't get enough love from otaku and I find this series more influential to the anime female character than those before it.
2. Slayers
For years I didn't think there would be a series that could knock Dirty Pair off my top spot, yet there are two; Slayers is a classic fantasy about an OP sorcerer named Lina Inverse, a chaotic neutral so to speak and it's fantastic but I rate it this high as it helped shape my interest in the music of anime with a handful making my playlist.
1. Black Lagoon
As I've grown up with anime I've seen it change for the better and for the worst and in that time I long for an anime with a classic feel yet with enough modern influence to stand up as a series. Black Lagoon is the perfect anime series, a love letter to every kind of trope that forms anime in a nutshell in the west. Ultra violent, rich in colour and animation, an elaborate multi layered story, many strong female characters, a normal main character that isn't annoying, balls to the wall action and a great sense of humour.
There will never be another anime this perfect again.
Now we come to our final two posts.
10. Nisekoi
A romance anime that's basically a better Love Hina. A host of great characters, the biggest tear jerker scenes and a tsundere I actually like.
9. Accel World
This is how you do it Sword Art Online. As the name suggests this is a rush of a show with high octane action coming from the most unexpected characters.
8. Jing King of Bandits
A personal favourite with the coolest looking protagonist ever and the right balance of artistic, surreal and beautiful and everyone is named after booze.
7. Ranma 1/2
A comedy so ridiculous in it's concept of transgender, martial arts and romance that only anime could possible make it, and this was way before Gintama made it cool.
6. Cowboy Bebop
A lot of peoples favourite anime and I agree with them, a perfect blend of action, sci fi, comedy and drama, it's near perfect.
If it hasn't been mentioned yet it is in the top ten.
15. Zoids
This is how I wanted Transformers to be if crossed with Gundam. I grew up with this and it serves as my favourite war anime, how is not licensed.
14. Cardcaptor Sakura
The best solo magical girl in anime, a character that has stayed consistently charming throughout her history and arguably Clamp's best anime.
13. Girls Und Panzer
More tank action and a sport I want to see in real life, a series I can never get tired of and a fantastic tribute to the old metal soldiers of World War II.
12. Riding Bean/Gunsmith Cats
Put together into one as it's same universe. Both shows are an epic showcase of fast cars, gun fights and explosions all set to a Chicago style soundtrack. Would've been number one had it been longer.
11. Little Witch Academia
Growing up I watched the Worst Witch, a series I rate better than Harry Potter. Little Witch Academia scratches a nostalgia itch of the Worst Witch and adds a unique art style and fun characters, I cannot praise this series enough and it only missed the top ten due to me not quite finishing it.

20. Dominion Tank Police
I like me some Tank action and Dominion fills that gap for me. This was also British dubbed, a rarity in this day and age.
19.Shimoneta
Dirty jokes, nudity and copious amounts of sexual innuendo and panties, and political commentary on the bizarre nature of censorship. Tumblr really should've watched this show first.
18. Pokemon
Yeah I'm one of those Pokemon players but I hold the anime in high regard not because it's been on the air for eons but because it's still entertaining.
17. Paradise Kiss
Another one about the complex emotions of adolescence, whether it be the lead girl not being able to decide her future, the toxicity of certain relationships, the emotions of coming out as LGBT or the artistic vision of a young designer, all difficult subjects are tackled correctly.
16. Ashita No Nadja
A genre missing from anime of today is the European adventure, inspired by the adventures of Heidi and descended from Candy Candy, these shows are about young girls going on epic journeys to find their true selves whether it be royalty or as a performer, Nadja is the last and best of this genre and I hope it comes back one day. Maybe Precure could try it out.
