Chapter 1
(Chapter 1)
All in a days work

''F our years have past since the incident with the fal'cie and l'cie. Cocoon is finally beginning to rebuild itself, even though everyone is still shook up from all the events that happened. But I feel now that Barthandelus is gone, everything will be normal for once. Besides there’s a new ruler of cocoon now and I’m very confident he’s perfect for the job.''

Lightning thought to herself while out patrolling the beach. Lightning stopped in her tracks and gazed at all the people on the beach then switched her gaze to her watch, her shift was almost over and that was good. She continuously walked back-and-forth around the beach it got tiring, for the last few minutes she watched the sunset slowly set on the horizon, gazing at the clouds that had ''pinkish'' tints to them. Lightning took a deep breath and looked at her watched to realize her shift ended four minutes ago. Relived it was finally over she quickly paced home. Only two blocks from her home, her phone began to ring. Without looking she put the phone to her ear. ''This is Rosch , Lightning your needed north of the beach at the abandoned military training facility, someone has reported an intruder so who so ever is there get them out’’ Before Lightning could ask if he could find someone more ''suitable'' for the job Rosch hung up.'' Tch, wonderful when I thought I was home free this pops up' to ruin my day. ‘’Lightning said under her breath. She Ran to get there quickly and get this ''intruder'' sorted out. Once she got there it was very dark, Lightning was barely able to see what was ahead of her. Pulled out her sword from her holster , and she started scanning the area the best she could. Lightning halted at the sound of foot steps nearby. She knew that whoever it was was just around the corner inside the facility. Lightning jumped in front of the person and pointed her gun ‘’Freeze“! This is private property I'll ask you to leave immediately or I’ll escort you out ''myself.‘’ She looked around glaring, but there was nothing there, she checked over her shoulder nothing in sight, puzzled Lightning hated it but she would have to go deeper into the facility and the deeper it seemed to get the darker. She didn't have much of a choice she had a job that needed to be done. Carefully she proceeded deeper into the facility. Only able to see a few feet in front of her self she regretted not bringing a flash light and scolded herself in her sub-conscious. Rain started pouring down on the steel roof of the facility. Lightning let out a low sigh ‘’It’s raining, this must be my lucky day.” Lightning groaned. Low moaning noises came from a room to the left of her.

She pondered on what could be in the room. Without hesitation She charged into the door, Bursting it open ‘’Who’s in here!? I don’t feel like playing a game of cat and mouse!'' she said firmly. A man with patches of flesh missing from his chest and head walked towards Lightning, then collapsed on her. ‘’Sir what happened? What did this to you!?'' The man just moaned again. Lightning tried to pull the man over her shoulder, but the hen resisted. He looked into her eyes with a dead soulless look that would petrify even her. He opened his mouth showing missing and rotten teeth. Lightning could do nothing but watch this ''man'' begin to feast on her flesh!

Finally the pain hit Lightning like a hot brand she winced and lowly wailed. With all the might in her body she thrust her fist into the man’s chest causing him to fly backwards ripping the flesh off of her it had a hold of. She held her wound on her shoulder cringing, looking at the man who had landed right under a hanging helicopter she shot the wires supporting it and watched it as it came crashing down on the man. Without looking back she ran towards

the exit of the facility. Everything got darker until Lightning couldn't even see her feet or anything. ''Where’s the door?! Where is it!?'' She began to get frustrated. She ran even though she was blinded by the darkness, she ended up tripping on what seemed to be stairs once she hit them. She felt around for the railing and pulled her self up thoughts raced through her mind.” I need more light this is absolutely pointless to run around in the dark like some blind fool, more than likely there must be windows upstairs.’’ The tapping of rain got louder until it began to sound like bullets hitting the roof.

She paced up the steps fast but cautiously, the sound of more moaning followed behind her. Once she had arrived at the top of the stairs she paced down the hallway that had few windows providing her a bit of light, the moaning got closer. She turned around to see several of those bloodthirsty creatures coming up the stairs! She pointed her gun at the creature's legs and shot them, a few got back up and stumbled towards her the others began dragging there bodies up the stairs! Lightning sprinted into the room that was next to her slamming the door shut thinking fast on how to barricade the door she scanned the room and grabbed a bookshelf and struggled to push it in front of the door she looked around to find there was nowhere else to run she was trapped....like a lamb in the slaughter.

She stared out the window in the small room, the drop was to high to jump from and there were even more creatures out side the window. ‘’T-this is insane where are they coming from?’’ Lightning said stuttered
She couldn’t see straight everything began to get blurry she staggered over to the military bunk bed in the room and sat down holding her shoulder. Lightning felt sharp dagger like stabbing pains in the wound and her chest, she grimaced in agony and tried her best not to scream, exhausted from the pain she fell to her side and curled into the fetal position. Lightning weakly reached for her cell phone and dialed Rosch praying he‘d pick up. Unfortunately the storm was too serious and the call couldn’t make it through, she dropped her phone to the floor, he arm laid limp off the side of the bed and she watched the blood run down her arm dripping off her finger tips, the blood only aroused the creatures more.

Her breathing became labored. the door began shaking with the creatures pounding on the other side, the bookshelf started tipping over, her heart rate shot out the roof she felt as if her heart would rip out of her ribcage. The bookshelf toppled over and the door flew open. For a second everything started moving in slow motion, everything was foggy Lightning looked up at the bunk above her and sighed thinking’’ This is it, isn’t it?.... what a wonderful way to die. ...I'm sorry Serah.'' Lightning began closing her eyes accepting her cruel fate everything just seemed to slip away for a second she could hear muffled gun shots, But everything got silent and slowly she drifted into unconsciousness. She could feel the cold hands of death reaching out for her.
