Telling the Difference
Ok, so this rant is going to be about Yaoi, and Shounen-ai. I know what your thinking "SQUEE!111!!11!! YAOI IS LIKE THE BEST THING EVAR!!!11111!!!!11!1", well if you don't know the difference between Yaoi and Shounen-ai, you may be in BIG trouble by now.
First off, Yaoi IS NOT I repeat IS NOT boys kissing. That would be Shounen-ai. Yaoi is adult material. That may be why when you went to that one site, that one time, it had and 18+ warning thing on it. Remember that time? No? Ok then, that's your problem, not mine. Anyway, Yaoi IS adult. I feel sorry for the people who hold signs at con's that say something along the lines 'Will Yaoi for Glomps!' They have no idea what situation they could be putting themselves in. Poor things.
Ok, so next, I'd like to talk about Shounen-ai. Shounen-ai means Boy Love commonly know as BL. Shounen-ai is the lighter side of the Yaoi ordeal. It usually involves Guys hugging and kissing, at the most! If you refer to Shounen-ai as just Shounen, you could be flammed by TONS of people. Shounen means boy, sure, but I don't think it should be refered to as BL.
Lastly, I would like to say something about Yuri and Shojo-ai. Yuri is equal to Yaoi, except with girls, and Shojo-ai is equal to Shounen-ai with girls.

You may wonder why I started this article. Well, the truth is, I'm tired of people not being able to tell the difference, and everything that has to do with girls or boys relationships being called Yuri or Yaoi. Stop me if you have done this before, but your looking on a picture site or something, and someone has a Yaoi/Yuri gallery. You click on it, thinking, "Oh I know what this is, I know the difference, but they don't." You scroll through a couple pages of guys/girls kissing and then come to ACTUAL Yaoi/Yuri picks, and quickly shut the page, your face turning red. I'm tired of people not being able to tell the difference, like I've said, so please spread the word!
I hope this gets published to the front page so everyone can see it!
