I Have Returned!

Hello again everyone. Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm back from that trip I told everyone I was going on yesterday. It was a short trip, but a pretty fun one.

Yesterday afternoon, my aunt and I went to Elkhorn, Iowa to visit the Museum of Danish America (we are of Danish descent). They had some pretty need artifacts on display, including some very elaborate pipes (as in the kind people smoke). I'm in no way endorsing lung cancer here, but a lot of those pipes were pretty amazing. They had one that was made of ivory and had a very intricate carving on it. There were also many pipes that were made of porcelain. Those Danish immigrants were some serious pipe smokers... and many of them probably died in their fifties as a result.

After the museum, my aunt and I went to Omaha to spend the night at this very nice hotel that she had reserved months before. As I had hoped, my room had a writing desk and a window with a spectacular view of the city. Of course I had hoped that this hotel would have a better or at least wider selection of cable channels. Believe it or not, they had access to all three HBO channels, and not one of them had any movies on that were really worth watching. Still, that room seemed to be just the right place for me to get some more work on this fanfic I've been developing for the past few weeks.

Then this morning, my aunt and I checked out of the hotel and visited Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, which we hadn't visited in years. I saw some pretty neat animals in their Kingdom's of the Night attraction, including a couple I had never even heard of before.

In addition to those, I also got a good look at some vampire bats and Egyptian fruit bats. The fruit bats were especially amazing, especially with the way the move around tree branches almost like monkeys. Anyway, there had been a lot about that zoo that had changed since my aunt and I were there last. They're aquarium had really gotten a makeover, along with some new sea life. There were a few more verities of jellyfish that they didn't have before, along with a tank of these huge Japanese spider crabs. The Japanese spider crab, by the way, is apparently the largest known arthropod on Earth. There are some of these crabs that are as large as thirteen feet.

All in all, it was a pretty fun trip. Sure it was short, but it was nice to get away from my normal life for at least a little while. Of course I already seem to be crashing from my vacation high now that I'm back home. One major buzzkill occurred when I was catching up on my email. I got a flush letter telling me that I didn't get this job that I had interviewed for at the beginning of the month. Not the sort of thing you want to hear about when you get back from a vacation. Oh well.

Anyway, I hope everyone has been doing well in my absence.
