Mall Shops and Other Stuff

Good evening, everyone (or good morning or good afternoon, depending on when you read this). Just thought I'd do another little post to let everyone know how things have been going for me. I wound up having a pretty good day yesterday. I took a much needed trip out of town to unwind from the rather crummy week I've had. Monday morning I messed up my neck looking at my laptop, the archive where I help out at became a chaotic mess, and I had a disagreement of sorts with my dad that I'm not really willing to get into. Plus to add insult to injury, the episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V that was supposed to air last Sunday ended up being postponed due to a dang ping-pong tournament. It just proves that televised sporting events are a universal pain in the butt. At least the episode wasn't postponed by a football game though, that would've really ticked me off.

Anyway, my drive out of town ended up going really well. I got my hands on the eighth volume of the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL manga, which is actually pretty good except for the fact that it doesn't include the Seven Barian Emperors from the anime version. For those who care, I also got a few more Yu-Gi-Oh! booster packs. Because of those packs I am now two cards closer to that Speedroid deck I've been trying to build. I've still got a ways to go towards building that deck though, since there are still eight key cards that I need to find. And of course they're all super rare cards, so getting them is not going to be easy. At least I have most of the Synchro Monsters I think I'll need for the deck.

Getting back to my trip, the final part of it included a stop at this one mall I had been meaning to go to. An acquaintance told me about this little store at that mall called Anime Circle. As the name of the store implies, they sell anime DVDs as well as manga and anime-related merchandise. Unfortunately, the store did not live up to my expectations. It was this little "hole in the wall" shop that was in an out of the way corner of the mall, and they did not have that wide of a selection. They did at least have some older manga titles, but the selection was still not as good as the selection at a store like Barnes & Noble. As for their anime DVD selection, that was even more pitiful.

If anything, that experience with the mall shop seems to confirm my observation from last July about how hard it is to find anime DVDs in stores these days. For those who don't remember or just didn't read that one post I did back then, I visited the store where I usually bought my anime DVDs from in the past and their selection had really shrunk down. In fact after my visit to Anime Circle yesterday, I went back to that store since it was in the same mall and decided to see if anything had changed since last year. Their selection was about the same, but it was still bigger than the Anime Circle's selection. So is it just me, or are anime DVDs really becoming harder to find in actual brick and mortar shops? I mean I guess I can't really be surprised if that's the case. DVDs are a little more expensive than manga, and I assume that most people prefer to do their shopping online these days.

Well, I think I'll close this post here before Dragon Ball Z comes on. Until next time.
