Back to the Beginning

Hi there, everyone. Just thought I'd do a post to let everyone know how I was doing. Yesterday I finished watching the Strawberry Panic anime for what was the second time ever. I had first seen it on Youtube about five years ago and didn't get it on DVD until last week when I found it by chance at a cheap price in the store I normally buy anime DVDs from. It was kind of amazing seeing Strawberry Panic again after all this time. It reminded me of some things that I think I more or less forgot about. What some of those things are, I can't really put into words.

One thing I can say is that seeing Strawberry Panic again took be back to the time of one of my first major fan fiction projects. The story was a crossover between Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and Strawberry Panic called Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Strawberry Crisis. Those interested in reading that story can find it on FanFiction.Net. I can also PM a link to it for those who really want to give it a look (looks in Judai Winchester's direction). To those who do wish to read this story, I ask you to keep in mind that it's one of my earliest attempts at writing, so it's probably not great art. Also, it is possible to leave guest reviews on FanFiction.Net, so if you do wish to leave a review, please be kind. I mean I don't want anyone to out and out lie to me, but there's no need to be majorly harsh either.

The reason I ended up writing that crossover is because one day I was browsing the GX crossovers on FanFiction.Net and found that there already was one crossover between GX and Strawberry Panic. I read the first three four chapters of it and thought to myself, "I could do a way better crossover than this". So I sat down and quickly started piecing something together. What I did was just crash the Strawberry Panic universe into the main Yu-Gi-Oh! universe, which was an easy adaptation. All I had to do was change the three all-girl schools from Strawberry Panic into three all-girl duel academies, throw in some stuff from Yu-Gi-Oh! R and have Jaden/Judai actually play a role in the story (Jaden was not in that original crossover I spoke of at all). All in all, it was just a fun story to do, and one that I even wrote a sequel for.

Remembering that old fanfic of mine and the reasons why I wrote it has petty much brought back my enthusiasm for writing fan fiction. I currently have no motivation for returning to work on the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL fanfic I've been working on for the last couple of months, but I do have motivation to work on some new GX stories. One of those stories would be yet another sequel to that original GX/Strawberry Panic story of mine involving those Legendary Planet monsters from the GX manga. I don't know when that story will get off the ground, but I'm not going to rush it. Good stories take time to do properly.

As amazing as this past week has been though, I think my big takeaway from it is that sometimes in life we forget about why we started walking down the paths we walk. Things get tough and we lose that passion or that motivation for the things we've been doing. Our revolve slips from our grasp and we're left wondering why we shouldn't just give up on what we've been doing to find a new path for ourselves. I think that's pretty much what happened to me during the past month. A lot of things got to me all at once and somewhere along the line and when I looked at the stories I was working on I asked myself, "why am I even bothering with some of these stories?" When something like that happens though, sometimes the thing to do is to go back to where everything started to remind ourselves of our original motivations and hopefully regain that passion.

That's pretty much it for this post, I think. Until next time.
