An Unexpected Sight

Ladies and gentlemen, Survivor.

Today turned out to be a pretty decent day. The bad news is that I've hit another wall in regards to my fan fiction writing. I don't know what the deal is. I started work on this one story a few days ago, I was real enthusiastic about it. Then all of a sudden I just have no drive to continue working on it. That enthusiasm just suddenly went flat. I have no idea what the reason could be.

So this afternoon, I decided to go for a walk to try and get that energy back. Even though it was like only 43 degrees out (I live in Nebraska. We get these weird weather fluctuations all the time). I drove out to this one little paved trail in the middle of town that's mean for bike riders, joggers, and anyone who enjoys walking. This was a trail that I had never been to before, so it was an interesting new experience for me. So I parked the car, turned on my iPod to listen to some Survivor (hence the above music video), and I walked out onto the trail.

The first thing I see when I get out there is this fairly large pond that surrounded by a cluster of trees. I get closer, and standing like right on the edge of the pond is a Great Blue Heron.

At least I'm fairly certain that's the bird I saw. It was a fair distance away. I got a pretty good look at it as it flew off. But I never expected to see something like that, since this trail and its little pond is almost right in the middle of town. There's even a school that's almost right across from where the pond is. Granted, the school is a good twenty or thirty feet away, but it's still pretty dang close. So that was a pretty cool incident that happened to me today.

I'm still blocked after that walk though. Even seeing that bird did nothing to help me get back the energy to work on that story. Or any other story, for that matter. Anyway, I hope everyone else had a pretty good day.
