Post Christmas Monologue, 2012

Well, another Christmas has come and gone, and I hope all of you reading had a good one. But to be honest I actually like the few days after Christmas a little better. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas, but it’s these few days between Christmas and New Years that I greatly enjoy. This is the time to just relax and unwind from the holidays. And I’m sure some people need that more than others.

I mean face it; probably not everybody had a great Christmas. For one, Christmas is about spending time with family and loved ones, but I’m sure there are quite a few people out there who have family members that they can’t stand to be in the same room with. I have at least two relatives like that. Then of course there are those poor people out there who’re just alone on Christmas. The kind of people who for some reason can’t spend time with their families or just have no family to spend time with. So maybe they just end up sitting on their butts all day eating chocolate and watching that movie, A Christmas Story, over and over again. Or it could be worse than that.

Another thing that could’ve ruined Christmas for some is just the simple fact that they didn’t get what they wanted that morning. Perhaps they even got the exact opposite. Maybe they wanted an iPad and they got socks, or maybe they wanted a new video game and they got socks, or perhaps they wanted a new set of Anime DVDs and all they got was, you guessed it, socks, or a gift certificate to a stationary store. So then what usually ends up happening is that either you get a whole drawer full of socks you’ll never use or some other item you never wanted or have no use for. Then you pretty much end up either re-gifting them or returning them to the store so you can get what you really wanted. Of course if you try doing that on the day after Christmas, you’ve got a death wish.

But yeah, this is the time of the year that I like. There’s snow still on the ground and it’s too soon to take down the Christmas decorations, but the radio stations stop playing Christmas music and you no longer have to hear fifty-two renditions of the same dang song over and over again. Now you can stop watching all the same old Christmas movies and start watching movies you got for Christmas (or other movies in general, for that matter). This is the time to just sit back and enjoy the gifts you did get (or do that post-Christmas shopping I mentioned). This is the time to just take it easy and ride out what’s left of the year.

So in closing, I hope everyone reading had a good Christmas and got most of what they wanted. I got the two things that were at the top of my list, sweet, sweet cash and the first omnibus volume of a little yuri manga called Girl Friends (although now I want the second omnibus volume to come out this instant because the first one ENDED ON A FREKIN’ EMOTIONAL CLIFFHANGER!! WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL JANUARY EIGHTH?!). All in all though, it was a good Christmas for me. But now I unwind and have my traditional viewing of Gundam SEED (though I’ll probably wait to do that until the weekend.). I wish everyone a Happy New Year.

P.S., I’m over my writer’s block now.
