roller derby n stuff

Hey guys! So usually I write posts from my phone because I'm too lazy to go all the way downstairs to use the desktop. But my phone has mysteriously disappeared and I'm like 99% sure I left it in the breakroom at work. Buuuh. So yeah, I've got no YouTube, no Crunchyroll, no NPR One, and no Pandora till Monday. I mean, I'll live, but it's still annoying. Oh, well. Anyway, since I'm typing on a computer instead of a teeny glitchy phone screen, hopefully there'll be less stupid typos than usual in this post.
Anyway, things have been pretty interesting the last couple of weeks. I joined a roller derby team, which I'm really excited about. It's the off-season right now, so they're doing a rookie camp. I've never even skated before, so the first meet was...interesting. I've improved a lot since then. Not to brag or nothing, but last week I couldn't stand up on skates, and now I'm more or less keeping up with the rest of the rookies, which is pretty awesome. And for the record, doing roller derby drills for two hours is really hard work. It's good exercise, but man, are you sore the next day. On another note, it feels pretty great to have something that's a challenge and I need to push myself to improve at.
And now for the less-fun stuff that's been happening. I don't know if I mentioned this before, but Shonen Knife is doing a show in my area, and I was super pumped to go to it, cause they're awesome and live music is awesome and the other two times they played near me, I didn't get to go, so I was excited to finally go see them. So of course, the show sold out early and they're not selling tickets at the door. Just my luck. Plus, things aren't going great with my job. I don't know why, but they almost never give me more than nine hours a week, and that's really just not enough. If I'm going to pay for college, I can't be making ninety dollars a week. I took a look at the schedule, and no one works that many hours. Clearly they're hiring lots of people to work short shifts so no one works enough hours for benefits to kick in. A lot of big retail chains do that, and it sucks. The other thing is I really don't have all that much to do. I'm a cashier and I usually work in the evening, and sometimes hours will go by with no customers coming through. I'd say half my job is just standing at the register watching the clock (the other half is upselling people on crap they don't need when they check out, which I hate). Plus, they won't let me dye my hair purple, which I'm still kinda mad about. So yeah, I need a new job.
Oh yeah, and I guess Halloween was this week, too. I got my Samus Aran cosplay for anime Boston ready a bit early so I could sorta test-run it. Guess what? If you wear nothing but a Spandex bodysuit outside in October in New England, you freeze your butt off. I ended up putting a jacket on over the costume, rendering me unrecognizable. The costume looked great, though. My mom took some pictures, I'll have to get her to send them to me so I can post them.
So yeah, that's what I've been up to this week. I've been super busy, which is why I've been kinda MIA here (sorry!), but hopefully next week will be a bit less crazy. Okay, I know for a fact next week will be crazy too, but maybe next week? I dunno.
Have a nice weekend, everybody!
