A yuri story about 2 girls who had no one till they found each other. One was picked on all her life. The other is falsely labeled as a bully, feared, but gets beat at home.

Kari tossed and turned in her sleep as that dream came again like it did every night since she was 5. A nice smiling man walked up to her, leaned down and took her hand. "Hello little Kari. I'm your new daddy." Then she was on stairs listening to shouts and watched as the lady daddy said was mommy ran past her. She heard the door slam. So she walked up to daddy and tugged on his sleeve. "Is mommy coming back?" Kari asked and looked up at him with big blue eyes. A tear hit her face. "No! She's gone! AND IT'S ALL YOUR FALT!!"
She awoke in a cold sweat and bolted upright in her bed. Face stained with tears, panting for air as her eyes darted all around. She realized she was in her room and started to calm down. She hated her room. The walls were black and covered in posters of bands, anime, and her own art work. She had a dresser with a small stereo, CDs scattered about, and a nightstand. A mirror with a little crack in the corner was hung on the closet door. It was a small room so her twin bed hid most of the white carpet. But it didn't matter what she did to it. A cage was a cage, no matter what color the bars. Still a bit winded she shoved off the covers and scooted out of bed. Kari went to the only window in the room, opened it and leaned out. She took slow deep breaths. Damn that fucking dream! he doesn't torcher me enough during the day, I gotta have nightmares too. A light breeze hit her face, feeling cool on her skin. Kari looked up the street and smiled to herself as she noticed she had clear view of Sara's house. Her thoughts were soon interrupted by her alarm that was set for 10:00am. So in one quick smooth motion she rolled across her bed and hit the off button on the clock just to land on her feet. Kari "B-lined" to the door to eat, shower, and get dressed so she can get the hell out and over to Sara's.
Sara had been up for hours unable to sleep any longer with excitement. So she just got up, ate some of her fav Trix cereal and took a long shower. Sat on the edge of her bed drying her hair with a fluffy white towel and looked over at her Hello Kitty clock. 10:30am. She still had plenty of time to get dressed. But what should she ware? Kari didn't say what they were going to do. Sara hopped to her feet, tossed the towel in the hamper, and threw open her closet. After a few minutes of contemplating she decided on her fav outfit.
It was a strapless black leather dress that came about mid thigh. The dress split open at the top and bottom to show a purple dress underneath. With this dress she always wore her matching purple spike collar, wrist bands, tail band and belt. Sara then pulled on the matching boots. They too were black leather, with spikes that went up the front and a purple band around the ankle. They came up almost 2 inches above the knee. When she was through dressing she painted her nails black and put her silver hoop earrings in her left ear. All the while glancing at the clock every 5 to 10 minutes.
12:05pm Maybe I should call her. Sara picked up her cell from where it sat on her desk and sat down on her bed. For a moment she just stared at it. I should wait. Suddenly the phone vibrated. Startled, Sara dropped it in her lap. A hand pressed to her chest she took a slow breath. With a sigh she retrieved the cell and flipped it open to read the text.
Hey Sara. I'm on my way.
Kari
Sara leapt from the bed and ran to the taris. She leaned out against the railing to look up the street, spotting Kari leaving a house across the street about 4 houses away. A smile spread across Sara's face as she ran from the room, almost trampling her dad in the process as he stepped into the hall fixing his tie.
"Whah Sara where's the fire?" he was dressed for work warring a white dress shirt, black pants and tie. Her father had ink black hair and the strikingly golden eyes that had been passed on to Sara.
"Sorry Daddy!" was all he heard as she flew down the stairs.
He made his way down to the kitchen and kissed his wife. "Morning love."
"Good morning Dear." she replied not looking up from the eggs on the stove. Sara was fumbling around going from one window to another.
"What has gotten into that girl? She nearly flattened me in the hall." he said as he watched his daughter.
"Sara made a friend yesterday and they're doing something today." she pulled the pan off the burner and spun around to hug him. "Isn't wonderful!"
"Really? Its about time. No wonder she's so hyper." he held her close and kissed her gently. "See? I told you not to worry."
"Yes, but 18 years was far to long a wait." a single tear slid down her face.
"Now now. No tears in my breakfast love." he wiped the tear away as she giggled and turned back to her cooking. He looked around to see Sara still in constant motion. Her father walked up to her and caught her by the tail. "Hey you! Stop warring tracks in my carpet." she laughed as he pulled her gently into a hug. He spun her around and planted a quick kiss on her forehead. "What's this I hear, you makein a friend and not tellin your dear old dad?" Sara's eyes beamed up at him as she replied.
"Her names Kari Hara! She saved me by beating up the girls that hurt me the other day!"
"I love her already. When will she be here?"
"Any minute now!" and she started to bounce a little.
"Well calm down a bit and take this." he handed her $30. Sara's eyes grew wide.
"No Dad! That's way to much!" she tried to give it back. "I couldn't!" He shook his head.
"You can and you will. I want you to go out and have as much fun as you want today." Her eyes lit up and she threw her arms around his neck.
"Thank you daddy!"
"Ouch watch the spikes miss I'm not a pin cushion." he smiled as laughed and let him go.
The door bell rang. Sara kissed him on the cheek before running to the front door. She wasted no time pulling it open.
"Hey." Kari said with a wave.
Hi Kari." Sara said as she lead her inside. Kari looks so cool! Kari was warring a white belly shirt that had a stitched on cracked blue heart and zipper. The skirt was as short as Sara's but had crisscrossed black leather straps with white stitching a matching belt. Her left arm and right leg and right shoulder was covered in fish nets. The right arm and left leg matched the white top and skirt. And to top it all off she wore strapy black leather high heels with the same white stitching. Kari also sported a black tie that hung loose around her neck with 2 tail bands, one black and one blue. Sara nervously touched the purple stud in her nose out of habit. The jumped as her dad cleared his throat.
"Beg pardon, but do we get an introduction?" Sara's parents were in the door way he father's silky black tail swung contently mindlessly brushing his wife's white one.
"Oh! Duh I'm stupid. Mom, Dad, this is Kari. Kari meet Mom and Dad."
"It's nice to-" She was interrupted as Sara's mom suddenly hugged her tight.
"Thank you Kari." She said her cheek pressed against Kari's. "For helping my Sara." Then she was gently pulled away by her husband. With one arm around her shoulder he started to lead her back to the kitchen. He looked back at them as he went and said over his shoulder. "You kids have fun." then was gone around the corner.
And with that they left the house. Kari walked along the little path and followed Sara through the gate. She lifted her hand to her cheek and was surprised to find it damp. Was she crying just before?
"Sorry about that."
"Don't be. I like your Parents. They're really nice.
"Thank you.” Sara said quietly "So where are we going?"
Kari grinned. "You'll see."
They walked past the school chatting and laughing. In what seemed like no time at all they arrived at an arcade.
"I... um...I'm not very good at video games." she confessed, a little embarrassed.
"That's ok. You don't have to be good to have fun." With a big smile she grabbed Sara's hand and pulled her in. They stopped by the money machine and got some tokens.
"Now you go and play something, I’ll be back in a sec. I just gotta go to the little girls room." with a quick smile, she bounced away and Sara was left alone. She looked around and a Spiderman pinball machine caught her eye. She made her way over and started to play. Kari was right. It was fun and Sara smiled a little as she thought she was doing well. Two large shadows appeared from behind Sara and someone yanked her hair forcing her turn around. The guys were really tall. One's hair was spiked and the other had a nose ring like a bull. Sara never felt so small in her life.
"Oi! We were on that bitch." the bull leered down at her as he crossed his arms.
"So what should you do?" said the other with a wicked grin.
"I...I should..." she shook to much to speak.
"She's gonna stay right where she is." Kari was back. She marched over and placed herself in between Sara and the 2 boys. "And your gonna leave." Hands on her hips, Kari glared at them. Each in turn. She bared her fangs. Her ears went back and her tail puffed up as she took a step toward them. Sara watched their faces pale and they backed up. Kari growled low in her throat and they turned and ran with their tails between their legs. The spiky haired one ran into a trash can, fell to the floor, and tried to crawling away before he got back to his feet. His friend never looked back.
Sara had an image of Kari roaring like a lion as the 2 pissed themselves running. She giggled at the funny thought.
"Ha! Did you see that douche hit the trash! Priceless." Kari said as she turned back to Sara. A triumphant grin on her face. Then her eyes sparkled with excitement. "Hey lets play that!" Sara looked in the direction Kari indicated. It was a dancing game for two people.
"I don't know. It looks really hard."
"Nah! It's easy. Come one." she grabbed her hand and pulled Sara along. There was a huge screen that flashed DDR, two stage platforms with arrows on them. It looked complicated but she'll try for Kari's sake. Kari Hopped on the stage and put 3 tokens in it. "We'll play on EASY. Kk?"
"K." Sara squeaked. A list of songs appeared on the screen.
"Go ahead. You pick." Kari's bright blue eyes on Sara.
"Ok. Um..." Sara skimmed through the list and found a song she knew. "How about this one?"
"Ooo! I love Moonlight Shadow!"
"Me too."
Kari hit start. The music began and a rainbow of arrows fell. Sara was over whelmed for a few moments. All the while, Kari held her own. But Sara got the hang of it soon enough. Just when she started to have fun, a crowd began to gather. This made Sara nervous. She missed a step. Then another. Panic rose up, Sara slipped and fell toward Kari. Oh no! But in mid-fall she was caught. Kari spun them around and placed Sara on her feet again. Now she stood where Kari had been. Sara looked over to find Kari grinning at her. She winked and resumed play. So Sara did as well. The crowd gave a cheer. Sara couldn't believe it. She made them think my fall was intentional! The rest of the song Sara never missed a step. When it finished a bunch of bells went signaling a new high score. Tickets spewed out like a jackpot in Vegas. There was a short applause and the crowd dispersed.
"Dude! That was so much fun!" Kari jumped up and down. A simple thanks just won't cut it this time. Sara thought. So with a nod she smiled. Kari gathered up the pile of tickets a bounced over to the prize counter. "Good days work I’d say. Pick anything ya want."
"But I didn't-" Sara tried to object but was stopped by Kari's finger pressed to he lips.
"Nope! Ain't hearin it. It was your fancy moves back there that won, not mine." she smiled and removed her finger. Her lips tingled from the contact. Defeated Sara looked up at the wall of prizes and spotted a stuffed panda.
"That panda please." she asked the prize man. He got it down from the shelf and handed it over to Sara.
"Aww! Kawai! Nice choice!" Kari gave it a pat on the head.
"Yeah! I love pandas." Sara hugged it but looked up as she heard Kari's tummy growl. They giggled.
"MickeyD's?"
"You read my mind." Kari laughed.
"Or your stomach." Sara giggled.
At last the final bell rang that signaled the end of school. It felt like it took forever to get to that moment. Sara watched the minute hand as it made its way around the clock over and over again. Waited for the bell to sound, just to start anew in a different room. Listened to the endless tick that weighed heavy on her patience until she felt like screaming. But that was all behind her now. She gathered her things and left the room. As she went through the crowded hall she never scanned the faces of the people that past, because she was afraid of what she'd see. All the cruel sneers and glares that haunted her dreams. To hear the laughing and pointing that never ceased to follow her. So she kept her head down and walked faster to her locker. Once there Sara tried to put in her combination but she was rushed, she past the last number and had to start again. She slowed down and got it to open. Sara threw her things in; she wanted to be ready so Kari didn't have to wait. After the door was closed she looked down the hall for Kari and paled as she saw the girls from yesterday coming right at her from the end of the hall. Oh no! They leered at her as they weaved through the crowded hall that slowed they're pace. Sara wanted to run but her legs wouldn't work. Move! Run! Sara RUN! 8 lockers away, getting closer, Kari... but they stopped. Sara finally backed up to turn tail and run when she bumped into someone.
"Whoa!" At the familiar voice she spun around, and was face to face with Kari. Relief rushed through her and she almost cried.
"Hey Sara! Thanks for... wait, what's wrong?" The look of terror on Sara's face told her everything. She look up to see the three bitches that hurt Sara. Her dark brown ears shot back as she glared at them, fangs bared. They backed away and left. "Forget about Barbie and her clones." She smiled at Sara "As I was going to say before, thanks for waiting. Got everything?"
"Uh yeah."
"Cool. Let's go!"
A thought came to Sara as they left the school gates. "Um Kari...?"
"Yeah?"
"Why haven't I ever seen you at school before today?"
"Oh uh... I just transferred here last week." Not quite making eye contact.
"In the middle of the year?!"
"Yep. It's a long story. I'll tell ya later." Kari had to change the subject. Fast. "So... which house is yours?"
"Oh um... that one. With the blue shutters." Sara runs a bit ahead and points to a white house about half up the street with baby blue shutters and door. On the second floor Kari could see a sliding glass door that led out to a small taros with ivy grow on the bars. It had a little garden in the front with trees and bushes. Just as simple as every other house on the block but to Kari it looked like a paradise. She snapped out of her trance to find Sara staring at her.
"Its so pretty." she blurted out, not wanting to seem weird for gawking.
"Thank you." Sara opened the little gate door. "Do you want t-to maybe c-come in?" she barley got the sentence out, she was so nervous.
"Uh oh no, I'd love to but I can't!" I really really want to! "My dad wants my to come straight home to clean my room today. It's a total sty." Says him!
"Oh." Sara said trying not to look as disappointed as she felt. But didn't do to well.
"Ooo it's Saturday tomorrow though we should do something!!" Kari jumped the chance to see Sara smile again.
"Yeah that would good!" She brightened and ears perked.
"Great! I'll call you then. See you tomorrow!"Such a cute smile. Kari turned and walked away but didn't get far before looking back and waving. Sara smiled and waved as she went in the house.
As Sara shut the door she breathed sigh and leaned back agensted it, closing her eyes. I have a friend. Excitement boiled up inside her and she let it all out at once. She jumped up and down; spun in circles till she hit the floor, all while screaming at the top of her lungs "I HAVE A FRIEND!" over and over. Tears streamed down her face when all the commotion made her mom poke her head out of the kitchen.
"Hun? What's wrong?" she had long black hair that in the light shined with a violet tint. Such bright jade eyes you could swear they glow. She was the prettiest thing in her daisy sun dress of lime green and that pink frilly apron. She rushed over to Sara. "Sara baby tell me what's the matter?!" falling to her knees in front of Sara to look her over.
"I'm *Hic*... fine." she could barley get it out.
"Then why are you crying?!" she was afraid someone had hurt her again.
"I...have a *Hic*...friend." Sara smiled through the tears.
"Oh sweetheart!" she flung her arms around her neck and pulled Sara close. "It's about time, I'm so happy for you!" her mom hugged her tight as they cried together. Sara knew her mother blamed herself for all the torment Sara went through and it killed her because Sara didn't blame her so she shouldn't ether. Her mom finally let her go and started wiping Sara's tears with her apron. "This calls for French fries!" and she bounced away to make Sara's favorite food. Humming happily. Sara could still hear her as she climbed the stairs up to her room. Running in and jumping on to the bed to stared at the ceiling with a smile that might never go away.
Kari walked up the little pathway to her front door. She knew he wouldn't be home. Not for hours, because her father liked to drink on Fridays. But it didn't matter. She felt him everywhere. In the burses on her face, the never ending pain in her head, and the cuts on her body from all the things he threw at her or threw her into. She would never feel at home here. Not a place to run to, but from. She was nothing but a slave to him. Kari cooked all his meals, which he chucked even if it was perfect. She cleaned up after his drunken ass every night, just to get her hair yanked for looking at him. So Kari went up to her room and flopped down on her bed. The same bed where she cried herself to sleep every night, wondering why he hasn't killed her yet. With a sigh she put her palms over her eyes. "I've such a headache! Maybe a nap will help." Kari turned off the lights, then pulled the covers over her head. She curled into a ball as she slowly went to sleep.
Kari woke up reluctantly when the alarm went off at 6pm. She still had about 4 hours before he stumbled his why home. Her arm makes an appearance to slam down on the clock to stop the noise. She stretched letting the covers fall away. As she got out of bed she knocked something off the night stand. Kari turned to see her cell on the floor. Picking it up, she stares at the bunny key chain. So she flipped it open with a shrug. "What the hell." Kari smiled as started to text. Just when she hit sent the door slammed down stares.
"WHERE THE FUCK IS MY DINNER YOU LAZY BITCH!!" roared her father in a slurred.
"Damn he's home early!" she threw her phone on the bed as she ran out the door.
"Mmm that felt good." Sara said as she returned to her room wearing nothing but towel, fresh out of a bath. When she shut the door she heard a funny noise. It was her cell as it vibrated off the edge of her desk. She dove for it and almost lost the towel in the process.
"That was close." Sara sighed as went and sat on the bed. Flipped it open and caught her as she read the name.Kari! she blushed a bit as she read...
I Cant wait 4 2marrow. XD C u at 12pm. Sweet Dreams Sara.
Hugs
Kari
Sara fell back with a squeal and read it again. I still can't believe it.
She put it down only long enough to get dressed and get under the covers. then she read it a third time and hugged the phone and fell asleep happy for the first time in what seemed like forever.
*Sara's dreaming in the nurse's office*
dreaming in (*)
*Little 4 year old Sara was playing with blocks. A dark figure approached Sara and kick her blocks down. "Freak!" Another came up behind her and pulled her hair. "Weirdo!"
"Oww! Stop it!"
"Why you got purple hair?!"
"Yeah weirdo!"
"Please, go away!" Sara got up and stared to run away.*
Kari quietly opened the door to see how Sara was doing. Sara made a little whimper. Worried, Kari went to her bed.
*Sara ran and ran, then she tripped and fell. She could still hear them. "Weirdo! Weirdo!"
"I'm not a weirdo! Stop! No!" Sara stared to cry.*
Kari saw a tear trickle down Sara's cheek to the fluffy pillow. Poor Sara. She's having a nightmare. With all she’s been through, who could blame her. Kari brushed the hair from Sara's face. She bent down and whispered in Sara's ear "Its ok, I'm here now."
*Sara looked up as she felt a hand touch her head. A pretty girl with pigtails was smiling down at her. She went to her knees, scooped Sara into her arms and sat her on her lap. The nice girl held Sara close. Sara felt safer and relaxed agents her. The girl leaned down her head and whispered "Its ok, I'm here now."*
*"Please don't let them hurt me!"*
"Please don't let them hurt me..." Sara muttered in her sleep. Kari whispered back "Promise."
*"Promise."*
Sara stirred and Kari backed up a couple steps as not to startle her. "Mornin' Sleepin' Beauty. Do you feel better?"
Sara blinked as she slowly opened her eyes to see Kari standing by the bed. "Yeah. Thanks."
"That’s good. Hey did you sleep ok? I think you were having a nightmare."
Slowly sitting up she replied "I...I did. The same one I always have." Sara sat head bowed, white kitty ears down.
"I'm so sorry..."
"But..." Sara looked up but not at Kari. "It was... different.... this time." Her ear perked and she blushed as she remembered. Shyly Sara looked at Kari. "You were there."
Kari froze at Sara's words.
"You hugged me... like all the other times. Then all the bad things went away and I felt safe." The growl from Sara's tummy broke the moment.
Kari let out the breath she didn't know she was holding in a sigh of relief. "As it will be, cause I won't let anyone hurt you ever again. Now come on Sleepy Head, lets go get some lunch." They laughed.
As they left the nurse's office Kari ponders "Wonder what’s on the menu today?"
"I brought my lunch." Sara said.
"You pack your own lunch everyday?"
"My mom does." Sara said quietly. A little embarassed.
"Lucky!"
"Its back in my locker."
"Kay then let go get it." after they got their lunches they sat down on the grass in the shade of a cherry tree in the courtyard. The day was so nice warm, clear blue sky with a cool breaze. "Dude cafeteria food is pathetic." Kari cocks her head to the side and pocks her food with a spork. "I mean really, the Mac and Cheese looks like its ready to jump off my plate and crawl away."
Sara giggled. "You want some of mine? My mom always packs to much."
"No way really?!"
"Sure." Sara shyly opens the box.
Kari looked at the lunch and her eyes grew wide. She whistled. "You weren’t kidding!" Kari laughs as she throws away her questionable school lunch and sits back down. Sara holds out one of the two sandwiches she had to Kari. She graciously takes it and bites a mouthful off. "OMFG! This is amazing! Do you really eat like this everyday?!" Sara nods timidly. Kari looks down at the sandwich and sighs. "It must be nice... to have a mom that cares enough to pack you a lunch everyday."
Why does she look so sad? Sara thought. "I'm sure your mom would if you asked." Such pretty eyes should never be so sad. Kari didn't realize she had said that aloud and quickly looked up at Sara.
"Oh I so would if I had one." she tried to laugh a little to lighten the mood, realizing to late that it was proably not the best thing to say. Sara's hands shot to her mouth as she freaked.
"OMG I'm so sorry, I can't believe I said that!" she looked as if see was close to tears.
Kari waved her hands. “Oh no no no! I didn't mean it that way. I just meant that I only have a dad cause I was adopted!" she put her hand on Sara's knee. "Please don't cry." Sara brought her hand down from her mouth and onto Kari's hand. She fought the tears that threatened to spill, closing her eyes and in a small voice she started to say "I'm still sorr-"
"Don't be. Seriously I'm ok. look at me! "Kari lightly tipped Sara's chin up so she had her watching. "All smiles!" she made a funny smiling face. Sara was overcome be a fit of giggles.
"That’s more like it! You have a cute laugh. You should put it to use more often." Kari went back to eating the kickass sandwich. Sara blushed ever so slightly at her words. Hoping Kari hadn't notice she concentrated on eating to take her mind off it. They ate in peaceful silence for a while until Sara jumped suddenly. Her tail shot straight up, ears perked, hair on end.
"What's wrong?" Kari asked with her mouth full. "Oh shit is it a spider?!" Sara dug in her pocket and pulled out a cell phone with a Bunny Revolution key chain on it. "Oh. I new that."
"The vibration startles me." Sara said as she flipped open the cell to read the text. "Me too sometimes." Kari leaned over and read over Sara's shoulder.
Cant pic u up 2day sry sweety B careful walkin home

"That sucks where do you live?" Kari took a sip of her Dr. Pepper. Sara pointed in the direction of her house and told Kari her street. Kari choked on her on her pop; she was so excited.
*cough*"NOWAY! That’s my street!"
"Wow really?!"
"Yeah!"
"Small world."
Yep yep yep." Kari giggled as she noticed the keychain. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her cell. "Not only that, we have the same key chain." She held up her phone with an identical bunny dangling from it.
Sara laughed "Neat."
"Oh let me see yours a sec." Kari asked. Sara handed her cell to Kari with a quizzical look on her face. "I'm putting my cell number in your phone."
"Oh ok."
"Here ya go, call me anytime. Whenever you need me K?" Kari hands Sara back her phone.
"K."
"Here put yours in mine too."
"Sure, ok." Sara takes the cell and adds her cell number to Kari's contacts. As Sara was handing it back, the bell rang. They both jumped not realizing the time went by so fast. Kari stood and reached down, helping Sara up.
So what class you got next? Kari asked as she started to brush the dirt off her skirt. She looked up to find Sara had already thrown away their trash.
"Bio. You?"
"English. I guess we part ways then." she started to turn. "Oh hey! Wait for me by your locker. We can walk home together!"
"That sounds cool to me."
"Great, see ya later!"
"Bye." Sara just stood there for a sec and watched Kari wave and run off. But soon sighed and turned in the opposite direction.
Kari frequently doodled in class. Rarely ever copied notes, except for those annoying days when the teacher prowled around the desks trying to catch her pry. Which seemed to always be Kari. A heart here and star there. A skull and cross bones in the corner, but today they all revolved around one sketchy drawing of the only thing that seemed to be on her mind. Well it sure hell wasn't English. It was Sara, laughing with that pretty smile she had just discovered today. No matter what she did, it kept coming back to the front of her attention. So she gave up the fight and stared out the window.
Unfortunately today was one of those annoying days. "Well well Miss Hara, these are some very impressive notes and all while day dreaming out the window." the teacher said as she noticed Kair's doodles.
Kari sighed as she turned in her chair to face her teacher. "No Miss Hemada. I did the notes first then looked out the window. Sorry to say I'm not that talented." she smiled but the teacher didn't seem to find it funny.
"Hall Miss Hara." she said as she thrust her finger toward the door.
"Yes Miss Hemada." Kari walked to the opposite end of the room and out the door only to have it slammed shut behind her. "My my, someone's panties are in a twist today. You'd think she didn't like me." she laughed at herself. Third time this week. Kari thought as she leaned all non-chalant against the wall, dark brown cat tail swinging contently. What a day. She pushed off the wall and crossed the hall to the open window on the other side. Leaning out a breeze caught her hair. It feels like my whole life is going to change, flipped upside down. Kari took out her phone and looked at the bunny key chain. She smiled again. Its about damn time.
Sara had her cell out and was staring at it below the edge of the desk. She fiddled with the key chain, notes forgotten.
"Miss Koe, please put the phone away during class dear."
"Oh, yes sensei." and she quickly put it back in her pocket. Why can't I seem to focus today? First Math, now Bio. What could possibly happen next?
*The next day, Sara's in Algebra 2*
"Ok class, take out your book and turn to page 365." Sara looks in her bag. Its not there. That’s right, that girl Kari asked to borrow it because... I... *Sara had a flash-back of the sight of Kari's bra through her shirt.* Sara blushed slightly and franticly pretended to search in her bag for the book. I hope no one saw that!
"Miss Koe is there a problem? Do you have your book?"
Sara bowed her head. "No sir. Sorry."
He sighs. "Its fine. Just pay attention right now and I'll write you a pass to get it in a bit."
"Yes sir." she sighs as she turns to stare unseeing out the window. Now what do I do? I don’t even know where to find her. I wonder if she’s mad. I mean she helps me, then she even holds me while I cry like a baby and what do I do? I get her uniform all wet and fall on her! I hope I didn't hurt her. *another flash-back.* She blushes again. Her eyes were such a beautiful deep blue. I felt like they were sucking me in.
"Miss Koe."
Those eyes...
"Miss Koe." startled, Sara jumped to her feet. "Yes sir?!"
"See me in the hall please."
"Yes sir." Head bowed, ears down, she gathered her things and headed for the door. Seeing smirks, hearing whispers and giggles. Sara made it out choking back tears. Keeping her head down so the teacher wouldn't see the unshed tears in her eyes and tried her best to keep them out of her voice.
"Miss Koe is everything alright? Your not quite yourself today."
"I'm very sorry sir! I fell yesterday and hit my head real hard." Lifts her hand to the spot. "And I'm not feeling well. I'm so sorry."
"No need for sorries, maybe you should go lie down in the nurse's office for a while."
Thank you sir." The teacher turned and walked back into the class room. Sara's left alone. "I guess I'll put my things away first." and she headed toward the direction of her locker. "What a mess today has turned out to be." She sighed. Sara rounds the corner and looks down the hall to find that the books from the fight yesterday had been picked up but the dent in the locker remained like a warning to all, of the furry and strength of the girl named Kari Hara. She's so strong! That book cart had to weigh a ton but she kicked it like a box of feathers! If I had even an 8th of her courage I could stand up for myself. Then I wouldn't cry anymore. But yet it felt so... right... in Kari's arms. I felt so... so safe. *flash-back* Sara could almost feel the care and warmth surrounding her from the mere thought of it. She had just finished putting her stuff in and turned to leave. When there she was, the center of her thoughts standing right in front of her, not 5 feet away. Sara's breath caught in her throat. She couldn't speak, couldn't think. Just stood there frozen to the spot. Kari took a step and air rushed into Sara's lungs. If it made a noise, she hadn't meant it to.
"Please don't run. I just want to give you your book back."
"Wait, so your not mad at me?"
"Mad, why would I be mad?" Kari looked confused.
"Well you did so many nice things for me and I go and soak your shirt, then fall and flatten you. I thought you'd be furious, so I ran. I didn't want to see the first person who was nice to me, hate me so quickly."
"Oh no no no! I'm so not mad. You did nothing. It was a small spot and you couldn't flatten me if you tried." Kari advanced slowly as not to frighten her like cornered mouse.
"I'm so glad." she sighed and leaned back on the locker.
"Here, thanks for letting me borrow your book." She raised her left hand and held the book out to Sara.
"No probl-" She completely forgot what she was saying because Sara saw the bandages on her hand. She dropped the book; the slam echoed though the halls. Sara reached for Kari's hand.
"Oh no, did you get hurt because you protected me?" She'd hate herself if that were to happen because she couldn't save herself. Kari hid her hand behind her back.
"No no, they couldn't lay a finger on me! Just clumsy in the kitchen last night."
And now that Kari was closer she could see the bruise on the right side of Kari's face as well. "OMG, and your face too!"
"No really, I'm a terrible klutz and I ran into a wall in the dark! It happens all the time."
"Really?"
"Really, really! Heh heh." Kari tried for her most honest smile.
"Well alright." Sara still wasn't so sure, something didn't feel right. Kari reached down to retrieve the forgotten book.
"Oh no, let me!" Sara rushed to get it. They're fingers touched but just for an instant. It sent a small jolt shooting up they're arms and down they're spines. Kari quickly stood.
"So Sara uh... where are you going next?" Wow did she feel that too or did I imagine it?
"The nurse's office."
"OMG are you ok?! Is it your head from yesterday?!" Kari reached up and lightly touched the top of Sara's head, then softly ran it down the back. When Sara flinched she reluctantly let go. "Whoa, you got a nasty bump back there. Your not dizzy or anything?"
"No I'm fine, really! I was a little dizzy yesterday but I'm ok now. Its just kinda sore. My teacher wants me to lie down. That’s all."
"Ok... then I'll walk you there." Kari lopped her arm through Sara's and started off.
"You don't have to do this."
"I know, I just want to." Kari gave her a sweet smile. "I wanted to yesterday when you ran away."
"Oh... I'm sorry..."
"Its ok, happens every time." Sara noticed that Kari's nice smile didn't reach her eyes. Such sad eyes. "They always run?"
"Yep. Even when I save them... they're scared of me. How lonely... I know the feeling...
"So why were those girls hitting you? Besides that they're bitches and that’s what they do."
"They don't like my... hair." Sara bowed her head and her ears fell in shame.
"YOUR HAIR!!" Kari couldn't believe it.
Head still down Sara nodded. "I'm a freak and I've been one all my life. Those girls were nothing new..." A tear fell down her cheek. Flash-backs of all the years kids beat and picked on her.
"Your NOT a freak Sara! No way!" Kari stopped and pulled Sara into a hug. "Your beautiful. Your hair is like purple silk! The most gorgeous hair I have ever seen." she smoothed the hair on her back, careful to avoid the shot on the back of her head. "Never listen to anyone like them again!" I love your hair! Kari let go and made Sara face her. With a gentle touch she wiped her tears away. Sara was blushing slightly. Kari gave Sara her sweetest smile and reclaimed her arm. "They're just oober jealous of you." They started off again. It happened again! I felt like I belong in her arms. Why is she the only one this happens with? Everywhere she touched tingles. They finally had made it to the nurse’s office. Kari lets go, opens the door and walks in. Timidly Sara follows behind.
The nurse looked up from her paper work at the sound of the door. She was a very round rosey cheeked British lady. Always sweet and she love to hum as she worked. "Kari dear? Why are you back sweetie? Is your hand still blee-"
"No uh... I just walked my friend Sara here. She hit her head yesterday and her teacher wants her to lie down a while."
Sara was frozen with shock. Friend? Did she really say friend?
"Sara?"
Friend?...
Kari reached out and took Sara's hand. "Its ok, come on." Kari led Sara to the beds in the back. Beds Kari new well from all the days coming to school with beatings from the night before.
"That’s right you lie down and rest deary, I'll be right back with some water." the nurse scurried away after making sure Sara was comfortable. Kari walked over to tuck Sara in tighter.
"I'll come back in a little bit to check on you." and she turned to leave. Sara reached out and childishly latched on to the back of Kari's shirt to stop her.
"Kari... are we really... friends now?" Kari smiled and turned around.
"Hells yeah we're friend!" and she linked pinkies with Sara just like before. "Promise."
Sara was smiling for the first time in a long time as Kari left the room. Waved good bye as she quietly shut the door. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Promise.
Sara was at her locker taking out her math book. She closed her red locker door and turned around only to be shoved backwards into it, her head hit hard. She dropped the book and slid to the floor holding her head. It's happening again. She thought. Frightened, Sara looked up to find her attacker leering down at her, accompanied by two others. The girls were cheer leaders. Drabbed in the school colors of black, white, and silver. They’re bleached blond hair in tight pony tails with skirts to short for any girl to wear. Their boss's eyes held so much hatred that Sara visibly shook. There had been a pep rally going on so there was nobody around. Nobody to help.
"We don't like freaks in our school." The mean girl kicked her in the side. Just like before. A small cry escaped Sara as tears began to fall.
At that moment Kari appeared around the corner pushing a cart full of books on her way to the library. She spent all her time in ether there or the art room. She had nothing else to do, and she had no friends. Kari was left alone to do her own thing, today she was helping out the librarian collect the old English text books that were being replaced. She stopped dead in her tracks as she happened upon the scene. There were three cheer leaders towering over a girl cornered on the floor. The girl was holding her head. Kari could help but notice that her hair was this gorgeous flowing lavender silk. Her golden eyes over flowed with tears. Kari's heart aced to see the so frightened. What the hells their' problem!! Enraged by sight of the bitch readied for a second hit, Kari power kicked the heavy cart at the girls. It slammed the leader into the wall before she even new what hit her. Then layed unconscious under the mess of books. The others screamed and ran to their leader on the floor.
Kari reached them in no time, grabbed one by the collar, picked her off the ground and slammed her into a locker. Snarling, fangs exposed she growled "So how does it feel being on the other end of the fist!" With a wild look in her bright blue eyes she punched the panicked girl so hard in the face there was a dent left in the locker door. Kari let go and she crumbled to the floor. Suddenly the last one left grabbed Kari from behind wrapping an arm around her neck. Without thought she elbowed the cocky bitch in the ribs. As soon as the girl let go of her neck Kari back-handed her in the face. The force of the blow sent the snob spinning to the tiles. While the girl was still sprawled out face down Kari walked up and put her foot on her head. In a voice so menacing the devil would flinch she proclaimed "If I see this again, there will be DIER consequences."
Sara stayed perfectly still as she watched the very girls that were beating her only moments before, get pummeled by a strange girl that just appeared out of nowhere. The girl was very pretty. Her hair was a beautiful blond but so unlike the blond of the girls who hurt her. It was so pail it looked almost white next to her tanned skin. There was blue fire in her eyes. Sara just couldn't look away. Her rescuer was strong and brutal. You would think they had wronged her instead of Sara. Relived yet still frightened Sara waited for it all to end.
Leaving the trio whimpering on the floor Kari slowly walked over to Sara, still in shock from what had just happened. She lowered herself to the floor and quickly looked her over. No blood. Good. "Are you okay? Where did they hit you? Do you need the nurse?"
Sara's face was still wet from crying. Kari raised her hand to Sara's cheek, she flinched at her touch, and Kari hesitated.
"Its alright, I won't hurt you. Promise." She took her hand away from her face and found Sara's hand instead Kari linked her pinky with her's then raised their hands so Sara could see. Something seemed to erupt in her. Sara burst into tears and flung herself on Kari. Heart wrenching sobs, eyes overflowing. Surprised, Kari froze not knowing what to do, but then she did. The others forgotten, she wrapped her arms around Sara, put a hand on her head and started to smooth her beautiful purple hair. It was as soft silk beneath her finger tips. Kari really loved the feel of it. She made calming sounds and when she felt Sara tighten her hold, she hugged her closer. What did they do to her? Soon the sobs became small cries, then faded to cute hic-ups and only when Kari felt Sara's shaking stop did she release her. Wiping Sara's tears away she said "I'm Kari Hara. What’s your name?"
In a voice barley able to be heard she replied "Sara Koe. Thanks... for what you did. Oh! I'm so sorry, your shirts all wet!" Sara blushed slightly as she noticed that her wet spot on Kari's white shirt made it possible to see her light blue bra quite clearly.
"Oh, no worries. I have another shirt in my locker." Kari said as she followed Sara's gaze. Looking back at Sara she smiled then stood, pulled Sara to her feet and bent down to pick up her book. "Mind if I borrow this to cover it till I can change?" Kari asked.
In response Sara shook her head, but maybe to hard because she grabbed the back of her head. She swayed and fell forward. Kari threw her hands out to steady her but grabbed Sara's boobs in the process. Sara's cheeks deepened even more in color. Kari freaked out and let go, causing Sara to continue her fall landing right on top of Kari. Just when you think Sara's face couldn't get any more red and Kari's whole face darkened to it's fullest in seconds. Nose to nose, time seemed to stop. They couldn't break each others gaze. Then time turned back on and what seemed like hours were mere seconds. Sara jumped off Kari. "Sorry! Sorry! OMG! I'm so sorry!" Kari started to rise. But Sara, sure that Kari must be mad at her, panicked and ran.
"Wait!" Kari ran after her but lost her. "Why do they always run?" I hope her head is ok.
~After school~
Kari slowly opened the door to her house and left her shoes by the door. "I'm home." she called. Kari prayed her dad wasn't home yet. But no such luck. She could hear his stomping from the hall. Shit!
"The school called." He said making his way to her from the kitchen. Here it comes. "What did I fuckin’ tell you?!" His swing was fast and hard. Even braced for impact, it still hurt. His slap hit the right side of her face and for a minute Kari thought he broke her jaw. Head spinning she stumbled into a table against the wall. Desperate to remain standing she reached out and knocked over a vase of flowers and it shattered on the floor. Damn!
"Son of a bitch!" He roared. He grabbed Kari by the pig-tails, pulled her off the ground and into his face.
"If I get one more damn call about you fightin', I won't just beat your sorry ass. I'll fuckin' kill ya!" and he threw her on the floor by the scattered glass. A piece cut her left hand. "Now clean this mess up you fuckin' slob." She remained bleeding on the floor and thought to herself. Then who'll be your slave? Then her world went black.
