Mega Factor: Diancie

This next post is something of a special event. You see this isn’t just another Legendary Pokemon of the Week post…

This is Mega Factor!

For this special crossover edition, I’m going to be covering the only Pokemon from Generation 6 to receive a Mega Evolution. Presenting the Jewel Pokemon, Diance.

Madoka Kaname featured with Mega Diancie

Diancie was a Pokemon that I became very fascinated with when she was first officially revealed to the world. What really interested me about her was that she was basically a Carbink that went through some kind of odd mutation. It’s actually a little surprising that one can’t just breed Diancie with a Ditto to produce a Carbink just like one could breed Manaphy with a Ditto to get a Phione. Of course I suppose that wouldn’t really be necessary, since Carbink can be found in the wild. Of course the game designers could’ve given the Carbink some kind of unique ability or a special form, but it’s pointless to wonder about what might’ve been. Anyway, Diancie is also known as the princess of the Carbink, and as the anime has shown is also sought after for her ability to make diamonds out of thin air. With all that taken into account, it’s little wonder that the game creators decided to bless Diancie with her own Mega Stone.

Mega Evolution: Diancie may as well be known as the Magical Girl Pokemon since her Mega Evolution seems very much like a magical girl transformation. Of course Diancie is a Pokemon that seems like Grade-A magical girl material to begin with, what with being a princess and a Fairy-Type. Diancie’s Mega Evolution causes the gem adorning her head becomes shaped like a heart, and the rather plain while dress she normally wears becomes replaced by a stunning royal gown. Plus the gem that makes of Diancie’s lower half becomes completely free of the rock covering encasing it. In addition to the stunning physical transformation, Diancie’s Mega Evolution boosts her physical and special attack stats at the cost of lowering her defensive stats. Another nice feature of Diance’s Mega Evolution is that her ability changes from Clear Body to a little ability called Magic Bounce. Magic Bounce reflects moves that don’t do any actual damage to Diancie back at the opponent, making attacks like Will-o-wisp totally ineffective against her.

Dianice also came about her Mega Evolution in a fairly appropriate way in the anime. In the movie that featured her, Diancie had gone on a quest to find Xerneas in order to obtain the power she needed for properly making diamonds. She eventually found the legendary deer, and Xerneas used the power of her Fairy Aura ability to boost Diancie’s power momentarily. Even after receiving the power boost though, it still seems that Diancie lacks the power to make diamonds. Then, after Yveltal goes on a rampage due to Ash accidentally awakening it, Diancie goes through a Mega Evolution for the first time and fights off Yveltal before Xerneas returns to save the day. All in all, it was a pretty good movie other than the fact it featured Ash. How Diancie was able to evolve in the anime was a little confusing though, since it seemed like one of the diamonds she had created was also her Mega Stone.

Signature Move: Diancie’s signature attack comes in the form of a Rock-Type move called Diamond Storm. As the name of this attack implies, Diancie uses her power to make diamonds out of thin air to make a barrage of them that she hurls at the opponent. Diamond Storm also has a chance of raising Diance’s defense stat, which is a good thing since Diancie loses a lot of her defensive power through Mega Evolution. According to serebii.net, Diamond Storm is basically a more powerful and accurate version of Stone Edge. Of course considering just how many diamonds are formed to make this attack, it’s not surprising that it has a much higher accuracy.

That about covers it for this special crossover post. For the next edition of Mega Factor, I’ll be covering a favorite Pokemon of mine from Generation 2 that received a Mega Evolution that gave it a very unexpected type change. As for next week’s edition of Legendary Pokemon of the Week, I’ll be covering the final Mythical Pokemon from Generation 6. So until the time of both posts, stay tuned.
