The thing that bugged me most about Pokemon Contests is that it was so dang hard to win well enough to get your Pokemon's portrait hung in that one museum. It wasn't enough to win, you had to get your appeal points off the charts, and that was really hard since your opponent could badly startle your Pokemon and screw the whole thing up.
Plus some of those categories were just so hard to win.
I think I wouldn't have hated Pokemon Contests as much if it wasn't made out to be the 'thing' for girls to do instead of battling. I think it's a cool idea and all, but it was totally played up as 'this is here for girls'. Though I heard in the new anime the guy companion is actually in contests? I don't know.
Also they've never quite gotten it right in the games. I've never really found it interesting, and to be perfectly honest I think it's gotten worse each game...At least in Ruby and Sapphire it still used moves and required strategy...
Hi! ^^ I read the intro, and I'm kinda interested in becoming a guest poster. It's funny, I'm kinda the opposite of you (I started at Ruby and Sapphire, although I watched the anime from the beginning and stopped at the Battle Frontier...Max and May annoyed me too -_- and contests. They annoy me a lot.), so maybe I'd be able to post stuff about the newer generations ^^ Of course, I love the older generations, too, and I have played all the remakes (actually, SoulSilver might be my favorite Pokemon game ever). Plus, I'm actually working on a Pokemon fanfic as well, though it's been but on hold a bit for a Pokemon crossover I've been writing...
This comment is getting long...basically, I'd love to be a guest poster if you think I'm Poke-qualified enough! ^^;

Consider yourself a guest poster. Welcome aboard.
Incidentally, I hate Pokemon Contests too.
