Hey everyone! I'm back for what was supposed to be a yearly post on my anniversary here but I forgot last year and didn't realize it until a few weeks after the fact. A lot has happened in the last two years so first, I guess I'll start with a quick overview.
Let's see, in November of 2013, I would have been a few months into working my old security job again. I had been working for a small engineering firm in NYC but was let go as they weren't doing well and I was the least experienced one there. I wasn't overly upset since I wasn't terribly happy there so it wasn't a big loss. I spent a a few months working on some sites with a friend in England (namely VGFacts and The Spriters Resource) and then my old boss found out what happened and offered to get me back on with security. That job took me through December 2014.
In December of last year, a good friend of mine left his current job for a new one and called me to see if I wanted his position at the company he was leaving. I said absolutely and sent him my resume to forward to his boss. That same day, I got a call from the boss, went in for an interview and to fill out some paperwork, and was offered the job on the spot. :) I've been there and very happy since December 8 (so a year in just a few weeks) and am very thankful (yay subtle Thanksgiving reference!) for the way things turned out. It's an IT consulting company and I've really been enjoying the work, clients, and coworkers.
I guess that sums up the major life events of the last two years pretty well. I briefly alluded to some web development which was also a pretty major (and ongoing) event but otherwise, things have been pretty routine (in a good way) so let's move on to the other reason I'm here today - you guys.
It seems that no matter how long I go between visits, something always draws me back here. I still occasionally find myself going back and just reading through old content on myOtaku and here and remembering that period of my life fondly. Especially around this time of year, I find myself missing the friends I made though these sites so, for as long as I'm still able, I do at least want to check in and say hello. We have a reunion day planned for OB so if you were ever active there, check it out. Maybe we can try to arrange something similar for the old groups we had here too?
12 years is a long time and many of you joined around the same time I did. So, how many of you are still around? How are you all doing? I hope you're all doing well, have a happy Thanksgiving, a wonderful holiday season, and a great new year to come!
