Box Torrents drama

"I don't know how many people on here used Box Torrents. It's a useful site to find anime,manga, and anime music, especially if you're looking for higher quality stuff since they only allow full torrents with consistent groups and stuff. It's a pretty big community (181k users) so I assume there has to be some overlap.

Anyways, some drama went down recently on that site that caused them to move to a new domain. Basically what happened was the owner (Box) was being secretive about donations and the admin trusted him so they didn't say much. But they got curious so they ran a script to get an idea of how much he was getting. Basically they have a system where if you donate a euro, it gives you 10GB of upload credit. So they calculated how much upload credit was being thrown around and it came out to be an insane amount. The admin were disturbed by this and felt that since Box was being secretive it was a betrayal. They figured that since he'd not really been involved with the site for a few years other than paying for the bills and that the volunteer staff was doing all the work, that it would be justified to just move the entire site.

Keep in mind, the admin don't want to make money off of the site. They are keeping the donations transparent and only using it on keeping up with site costs (which is transparent) and they even disable donations after a few hours (which ended up covering 6 months of site costs). They felt bad about the move but it seemed necessary as to not break the community. Funny thing about this all is no one bothered to get Box's side of the story.

The next day, Box finally voices his side of the story through his girlfriend's account (since his was disabled). It turns out that he was secretive because he felt financial information shouldn't be public especially for torrent sites. It could lead to troubles down the road. The extra money he got was used to provide seedboxes to give the users faster download speeds.

All in all, I think it's a hilarious situation with a ton of unnecessary drama caused by not talking to Box about it from the beginning, but at the same time worst case scenario, if Box was actually taking the money for himself (which was a ton of money) the site would be fractured or just completely shut down.

Ok so I just joined this site and it's pretty interesting, you can create a list of all the anime you've watched, are watching, stopped watching, and plan to watch.(same for manga) it also has reviews, recommendations, clubs, ur own blog,and anime and manga top lists. So all in all not a bad site:}
