Graphic Worm '09 Starts
As you may have read before, Graphic Worm 2008 has come to an end.
However, as a new year has begun, so has a new Graphic Worm! So I would like to proudly announce and at the same time welcome everybody to...
Go take a look and get involved! No idea what a Graphic Worm is? No problem, even though my explanation in the thread itself might be a bit vague, there are links to all previous official OtakuBoards Graphic Worms, so you can go see for yourself!
The first part of the Worm (lets call it the head) is already up, and was made by mister OtakuBoards himself: James!
From this point on, its all about you, the members of the community! Pop into the thread and participate! You do not have to be a Photoshop genius to join in. Besides, its your chance to be part of OtakuBoards history, apart from just an awesome and fun event by itself!
So, spread the word and feed the worm! And if you have any suggestions or feedback, feel free to drop by the official Graphic Worm 2009 - Discussion Thread!
Signature of the Week
Anybody who took a peek into the Art Studio may have noticed that there was a severe lack of activity around the 9th edition of the Signature of the Week competition... However, lets give some cheers for Cat and Vicky for putting in the effort of making a signature to join in!
And while you are cheering, keep cheering, because Vicky came out as the winner with 100% of the community's votes! For the theme "Things I Hate" she decided to show the world her grudge against people who yell and then yell that they are not yelling. Well, I guess she is not the only one who thinks that way!
Go check out the winning signatures of all the weeks in the Hall of Fame! Its quite worth the click. ![]()
Now onto the next point... The next Signature of the Week! Which, the attentive ones of you might have noticed, is the 10th edition of our little bi-weekly competition!
In the spirit of anniversary, the theme this week will be Freestyle, just like the first edition, which basically means that you can enter any signature you want as long as it follows the rules!
So, if you are feeling creative, just hop right in. Or even if you are not feeling creative, feel free to take a look at the entries. In any case, check out the competition!
Already there are more entries than last week's had at the end, so its promising for a nice competition!
And do not forget: anybody can join, and anybody can win!
Nifty Fifty 2008 - Nominations
If you haven't been to OB lately, you may want to check out our latest Nifty Fifty event.
This event is essentially like an annual awards thread, but with a twist: the people with the most votes don't necessarily win.
Instead, a judging committee lists fifty of the most notable members/threads/events/etc... related to OB over the last year.
All you have to do is say what you think is nifty and why. Best of all, you can submit as many entries as you like!
At the moment, the nominations thread is still shiny and new, so there's plenty of time to go there and submit your ideas.
I will make sure to continue to update this page with Nifty Fifty 08 updates as the event progresses.
Graphic Worm '08 Finishes
For those who haven't noticed, one of OB's biggest projects for 2008 has finally come to a close.
The Graphic Worm thread received some 200 replies this year, with many of these containing the actual art submissions.
According to Art Studio Moderator Boo, this year's worm is around 1/4 larger than the 2007 worm. That's a pretty good effort, considering the size last year!
And if you're unfamiliar with the Graphic Worm project, let me say that it has now been running for three consecutive years. It basically involves each participant creating an image that links perfectly with the last one. Once many images are placed in a row, we get what looks like a long, steamless wall of artwork.
The most impressive part for me is actually seeing how each person connects the last piece of art to their own, especially when the themes from one piece to another are so different. Some of the transitions are incredibly cool.
If you want to visit the actual worm itself, click here. From this page you can also see the previous two worms.
If you're an artist on theOtaku.com, I strongly encourage you to check out the Graphic Worm 2009, which will be launching soon. And even if you don't want to participate, it's still worth checking out the worms themselves. ![]()
A big thanks go out to all the participants this year and to Boo, our Art Studio Moderator, who kept everything nice and organized. Oh, and Desbreko worked very hard to keep all the imagery updated. So a big thanks to him too!
Present Tiem Nao!
So... what did you get for Christmas?
Now that the big day is over, well depending on how you celebrate it that is, how did it go and what did you get? ChibiHorsewoman was so curious to find out what others got that she started a thread on it over at OtakuBoards on Christmas Eve before most people had even gone to sleep. My family doesn't open presents on Christmas Eve so I found that funny. XD
Anyway, for some reason, this year I got lots of foodstuff, things you munch on like beef jerky, peanuts and cheese and sausage. I don't mind though, you can never have too many snacks. I have plenty of games and other fun stuff that I got too.
So what did you get? If you don't do presents, how did you celebrate the holiday and what kind of day did you have? We got snowed on most of the day here. It was really peaceful and pretty to watch. There's just something magical about snow on Christmas day. ^_^
