NAME: Monique de Champlain
Snow was unusual for a November evening in France, but 1622 had not been a usual year, at least Monique de Champlain felt that way. This year, not yet eighteen years of age, she had become the fiancée of the celebrated sea captain Rodrigo Oliveiro de Sousa. Despite the gloomy weather outside, her father’s home tonight was warmed by a bright fire in the hearth and convivial company in the salon. She and the captain conversed with her father and brother, French and Portuguese flowing effortlessly among them.
The salon at Maison de Champlain was like an art gallery with chairs upholstered in the finest leathers arranged to view clocks and Venetian vases and candelabra and, particularly, the virginal: a rare and magnificent keyboard instrument imported from Antwerp. A dozen paintings hung on the clean plaster walls.
Monique’s father had earned his fortune in Lisbon, living there with his young family until Monique was eight, establishing himself as a spice broker with Portuguese traders for the sale of pepper, cloves, nutmeg and more throughout France. The pre-eminence of Le Courtage de Champlain had stood for more than twenty years without a close rival. Today, however, times were not as good for Champlain: abroad, the Dutch were beginning to poke holes in the Portuguese monopolies.
As always, since her mother’s death four years ago, Monique acted as the hostess. Since the age of thirteen she had been the mistress of the keys, in charge of the pantry, the servants and the budget. She managed every detail that made her father’s life pleasant. Preoccupied with his own quest to experience artistic beauty, her elder brother, Luc-Henri, was merely glad that someone capable was seeing to it that the table was set with fine food and his bed was made with fine linens and he always had a clean shirt to wear.

Here is Haruka-san's entry. Sorry I took so long to put it, I've been crunching for last minute grade pull-ups at school. ^__^

(She has a couple main characters for this one! ^^)
Main Character: Tetsuyu/Celia
Tetsuyu: A ghost pirate, captain of the ghost pirate ship Shiawase - she's a bit selfish, more concerned with her own problems than anyone else's.
Celia: A person who lives on Waterfall Island, a sweet, quiet girl who likes to read.
Seth: A mapmaker who lives on Waterfall Island - a dreamer who would love nothing more than to fly free of the bonds of his home island
Mejii: The first mate of Shiawase, also a ghost pirate - a power mad man who thinks he is all that and a bag of chips. Very intelligent, however...which makes him all the more dangerous.
The story begins with Mejii - he starts a mutiny on Shiawase, talking most of the crew to overthrow Tetsuyu. She is ready to defend herself, but a sudden storm blows up and a wave bounces her overboard into the ocean. She washes ashore on Waterfall Island, wondering where she is and how she can get revenge on Mejii the Traitor. As she wanders towards the town she notices that a lot of the town people are not happy to see her since the Ghost Pirates have been holding all the islands in the area in their grip of terror. The townspeople let the young monk at their temple know that she is on the island. The monk, Taro, is young and not quite fully developed in his spiritual powers, but he is ready to exorcise the ghost pirate. He finds Tetsuyu, and she reaches for her sword....only to discover that she lost it at sea. Her next option: turn and run.
Tetsuyu flees through the town, not really sure where she is going...or cares where she is going. A exorcism scroll nearly hits her, and she runs faster. She turns the corner and sees a crowd of people milling around the market area. Thinking to use them as cover, she heads straight into the crowd. They notice her, and began to raise the alarm. Taro is still able to stay on her trail. Then Tetsuyu sees Celia, sitting quietly on a bench under a shady tree, reading...so absorbed in her book that she doesn't even hear the commotion in the market area. Thinking quickly, Tetsuyu possess Celia. Taro, still young and not fully trained, runs right by them. Tetsuyu laughs, and waits for him to get frustrated and give up. The townspeople settle down, thinking that Taro has done his job and chased the ghost pirate off the island.
Tetsuyu waited until the coast was clear, then tried to un-possess Celia, but found - to her horror - that she could not. She tried again, but was still stuck in Celia's body. Then, too late, she remembered something Mejii told her a long time ago: If you possess the body of a person you have wronged, you cannot un-possess them until you have put their soul at ease.
But who was this girl? Tetsuyu wronged a lot of people and couldn't possibly remember everyone she had been in battles with. Besides, most of the ships she attacked were merchant ships....a few passenger ships, but the real money was in merchant ships....
Using her powers of possession, Tetsuyu made Celia walk down to the water and peer at her reflection. Once Tetsuyu got a good look at Celia's face......
A ship, a merchant ship with passengers...a young, handsome captain trying to defend his...his family! A younger...much younger Celia....the captain throwing the young girl on a lifeboat and turning to face Tetsuyu....and then, Tetsuyu standing on the bows of her own ship...her laughter ringing into the night as she watched the ship she had just robbed go down with all hands.
The man must have been Celia's father...and Tetsuyu had killed him! And now Tetsuyu could not un-possess Celia until she had put her soul at ease...but how? Tetsuyu may be a ghost pirate, but she couldn't bring back the dead from a watery grave. She did, however, know that in the guise of Celia...she could convince someone to help her find Shiawase and take revenge on Mejii. Determined to do this, Tetsuyu decided to tackle her problems first. Celia could wait.
As Celia (though it should be said in looks only - personality is ALL Tetsuyu) she finds Seth. Seth is a skilled mapmaker and his services are sought far and wide. As many maps as he has made, however, he has never left Waterfall Island. He has a boat his father left him, but was not skilled enough to sail it. Tetsuyu/Celia convinces him to come on an adventure with her hunting the Ghost Pirate ship. She said she can handle a ship no problem....if he could be the navigator, she'd sail the ship. He was so excited he didn't even take time to think about it: he said a most emphatic YES!!!
And thus, their adventures begin.
Note: I plan on developing this into a manga. The story just poured out of my head and I was so excited about it that I began scribbling notes on anything I could find!
