Gomenasai!

Today has been quite an exhausting day, and (although I did watch a first episode) I don't have the time nor energy to write a First Impression. I may tomorrow, since I expect it to be less energy-draining.

Side note: I do expect Mondays to be more hectic than Tuesdays, so if I continue to be unable to do one on Mondays, I might officially switch it to Tuesdays.

Gomenasai! ^^'

Here's a random Princess Tutu AMV to make up for it.

Soul Eater Review

Soul Eater is the type of anime where you pick it up, and before you know it, it's done, and is known to be one of the best short anime in existence, and is one of my personal faves.

Plot Summary

A weapon (a person who turns into a human) and a meister (person who wields a weapon) must kill 99 humans who have started eating human souls (or "kinshin"), and then kill a witch to become a Death Scythe and a personal weapon of Lord Death himself. The anime Maka and her weapon, Soul, Black*Star and his weapon, Tsubaki, and Death the Kid and his weapons, Liz and Patty as they... destroy a great evil that begins to destroy their school and the very world they live in.

Story

For the most part, the story is pretty sound. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, with very minimal filler episodes. It has enough content to fill its 51 episodes, but not too much that leaves you confused.

One thing is... the ending is poor, almost bad... it happened so quickly that it didn't really give you the feeling of satisfaction, and you don't really quite know what happened to the characters after the resolution.

8.7

Characters

Full of loud and colourful characters, this anime does a pretty solid job of flushing them out and making them either pretty likeable or fairly despicable. The development is done very well and you do become attached to characters. There is some pretty good development, although there are some who get left by the wayside.

9.3

Animation

The animation of this, though simple, is fairly detailed and beautiful. The two things that especially stick out to me:

The sky. There is always a beautiful pattern of clouds that make it feel like a real sky. Also the sun and moon. Those things were freakin' creepy, but very fitting of the anime.

Also, the action scenes. These are incredible, and combine hardcore battles with great strategy. Add in some crazy amazing (and, at times, breathtaking) angles and you get some of the greatest battles to exist.

9.2

Music

The music in Soul Eater is also notable, especially both the openings. Both feature amazing animation and incredible songs. The first ending is also pretty solid, if not awesome.

Some of the background songs are also pretty amazing, especially the character themes. With Crona's theme (Salve Maria) being one of the most beautiful songs I know, and with Soul's theme (So Scandalous) being catchy as all heck, the background score definitely has some solid songs to hold it up.

8.3

Overall

Soul Eater is amazing. No other way to put it. No matter who you are, I recommend you at least take a peek at it. If not stream it for two days straight.

**SPOILERS** Am I the only one who thought the ratio of deaths on the protagonist and antagonist incredibly unbalanced? Protagonist: Get slashed across the chest? Okay within a week. Get stabbed by a Vector Arrow? Okay within a day. Get completely exploded, with half your torso taken out? Okay within the hour. Antagonist: Get slashed in half? DEAD. Get stabbed by a kinshin's hand? DEAD. Get hit by a courageous punch...? .....DEAD.

I seriously began just intending to give this show a peek. Before I knew it, it was done. ...CURSE YOU STREAMABILITY.

Also, I love Crona. You know, just in case you haven't figured that out.

Introducing Kyra Overdose

Since I'd like to keep this blog specifically related to anime, I decided to make a personal blog for whatever I want to post. So I created Kyra Overdose I'll start posting things soon, but for now there's nothing posted.

Steins;Gate First Impression

HNNNNG HNNNNNNNNG HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG

What did I know beforehand?

All I really knew was everything in Arkada's review, and that he really enjoyed it. I went into it expecting to like it.

What are the plusses?

Goodness. I need to rave here.

The animation is BEAUTIFUL. It flowed so smoothly, and was incredibly pleasing to the eye... I loved it.

The opener was AMAZING. Great animation, great music...but what also shocked me was the CLOSER. Pretty good animation, but great music, too.

I don't usually point out anything with voice acting, but even watching it subbed, the Japanese voice actors were SO good, it sounded the way a normal person would talk.

And the characters themselves! I have to give my hats off to the translators (FUNimation), because they really did bring the vocabulary into the characters, giving them a distinct feel IN THE FIRST EPISODE.

And the story premises? Put away your Dr. Who, time for a real time travel story here. The kind that just might BLOW YOUR MIND.

What are the minuses?

Er....um... I didn't notice the background music that much. That's not really a negative, more like a "meh", but that's it. The only possible minus. DANG THIS IS GOOD

Story: 9.5

Characters: 9.7

Animation: 9.6

Music: 8.3

Overall: 9.28

Needless, to say, I loved it.

PS:

Okay, the main character is hot, in that he's-so-weird-you-can't-help-but-be-attracted-to-him way. GOSH main character first impression crushes better not be a regular thing.

Deadman Wonderland Review

Wonderful, beautiful, amazing.... potential. Despite its lack of popularity of Japan, it grew its popularity when it aired on Cartoon Network's Toonami.

Plot Summary

Ganta, a young boy, begins a new day in his classroom, talking and joking with his classmates...suddenly to find himself in the middle of their massacre by a strange man in red. Blamed and framed for the massacre, he is tossed into Deadman Wonderland, one of the first privately owned prisons. There he discovers he can use his blood as projectiles - and that he isn't the only one who can use his blood as weapons.

Story

The plot begins simple, but it quickly thickens, introducing a beautifully complicated story that... never really concludes. No answers are definitely given, and it leaves you with a cliffhanger ending (or, in other words, no ending).

To the artist's credit, there was originally a second season planned, but due to the lack of popularity in Japan, they canceled the second season. I think they should grow through with it, because it would help the story greatly, and because of the series' growing popularity in the West.

8.0

Characters

The main character, Ganta, starts off as a wimp who cries a lot(and who wouldn't be, after the trauma that he goes through), and, though in the second half he seems to grow up a bit, he takes a huge step back in the second to last episode in which he resorts back to crying. The last episode makes up for part of it, considering he does stand up a little more.

The other lead, Shiro, is an upbeat, almost innocent girl who still kicks butt, managing physically make up for Ganta's weakness. She is Ganta's friend, and helps him through a lot of deadly situations. I love both her personality and her unique character design.

The side characters felt a little unbalanced, focusing on characters that didn't seem to be as interesting as some of the less touched-on characters. However, they were all still interesting to some degree.

7.4

Animation

The animation in this is beautiful. It flows well, the color palette worked well, and the plentiful action scenes were riveting and memorable.

8.9

Music

The opener to this is amazing. Go watch it. Right now.

The closing has a great song, but the lack of animation in it makes it forgettable.

The background music is diverse and plentiful, but, for the most part, didn't blow me away. There were parts where I noticed it, but it never completely grabbed my attention.

8.3

Overall

I really did love Deadman Wonderland, and I may read the manga in the future, but it isn't one of my absolute favorites.

Rokuro is like what would happen if Orichimaru (from Naruto) and L (from Death Note) had a baby. c:

And I the only one who loved the blood in this? I mean, I'm not usually a bloodthirsty person, but the blood...gaaahhh, I blame the great animation. The other horrific elements, too. Heh. Maybe it's just the sadistic side of me coming out.

Crow is epic.
