*Heavy Breathing*
Huff…Huff…

Damnit, where are they?
I better have to find those scoundrels!!

In the corner of Adeodatus City, a boy, about the size of that of an eighteen-year-old, chases a set of gangsters fooling around at night,
Clutching what seems to be, a simple stungun, while at the same time, restraining himself from using the two elongated weapons attached to his waist.

*Cute Humming*
Hmm..Uhumm..
Lalala..laaalulaa~

Oooh..This must be what they call “A-dia-tus City” huh?
It’s a pretty nice city, I’ve got to say…

On the other side of the city, by its gates, stood a traveler girl, dressed in a large jacket and aviator hat, who stopped in her tracks to admire her view of the city. After she had taken her share of the sights, she carried her seemingly heavy bag and headed inside, being quite curious with the city itself.

Over buildings, and around the streets, the boy kept running, and running, looking for that group of hoodlums that were once lurking around the corner of the city, selling illegal drugs to the minority. It seems as though this is always the case in this corner of the city, or what people may call it “Short Town”.

Short town had gotten its name due to it being mostly cut-out from the rest of the city for being short in income, therefore leaving the town into an impoverished state, leaving the residents forced to work in the city market that was also located in the town itself. Since people are forced to work in the markets and only the very lucky could perform other jobs, there are people who strive to find better ways find a living, who break the rules just to earn money. Be it for a good or bad reason.

The boy was at a loss at what to do. It was his second mission after all. He thought over and over again, rubbing his chained pocket watch inside the pockets of his
Expensive-looking vest, whether to continue or abandon the task given t him. He obviously had the look of irritation, he could not take looking at the cowardly faces of the criminals, he could not take looking at the disgusted faces of the people he’s bumped to when he was searching for the criminals, and he could never take the looks of those drug-dealers when they had tricked minors to buy their pot, making them think it was medicine for their sicknesses. He could not take anymore of all the people he’s faced since the start of his membership to the Back-hand forces, with cowardice written on all of their faces. To him, it wasn’t worth it; It wasn’t worth punching them in the face and telling them they’re wrong since they were too scared to even listen, that their cowardice and fear is only the effect of extreme insecurity. And he hated that.

All of a sudden, the boy heard a ring coming from the communicator attached to his ear:

“Shin is that you?” He responded.

A voice can be heard from the other side.

“Yeah, it me. Tyler, you better have to catch those dudes quick, I’ve heard announcement from HQ that a golem would be appearing in Short Town sometime tonight. Be careful, you hear?” the guy named Shin replied.

“A G-golem…tonight!? Damn, where the hell are you anyway?”

“I’m on patrol for the Golem. Don’t worry, whenever it appears in your area, just remember what I taught you during training. You can handle it. I’ll come by and give a hand if you guys are near enough. See ya soon!!” and Shin turned off his communicator right after his goodbye.

As soon as the boy, Tyler, had turned off his communicator as well, he faintly spouted the 4 letter word: CRAP.
He then zoomed even faster around Short Town for the band of fools who dared to even step in his territory to sell pot for half-assed reasons. Tyler didn’t want double jeopardy, where he was caught in the middle of arresting the hooligans by the golem Shin had mentioned just moments ago. He’d be good as dead if that were to happen.

Over in the other side of Adeodatus, the traveler girl had come across a simple looking sweets shop, entitled “CANDY LANE”. It was fairly of decent size, with a decent number of customers inside as well. Inside, she chose to sit by the bar, where her orders can be easily taken and served. She was given her menu, and after 4 minutes of very careful thinking, she had finally decided on her order. She laid her menu down to call for the waitress tending the bar, and once the waitress had hovered over in front of her, gave her order, with the tone of utter satisfaction of her choice. To her it was the best in her current situation.
What she ordered, you ask? Well, it was THE super-ultra-grand-uber-crepe-of-the-royal-heir-of-the-strawberry-kingdom with sprinkles. Yes, it was a very odd name, but it was also the store’s custom for having peculiar names for their special orders. The girl thought that the dessert looked like a REAL delight when she looked at its picture in the menu, and she didn’t care how much it was, no matter how many zeroes were in the actual price. So much for careful decisions.. Yet, surprisingly, it had a very decent value. Very affordable for someone who seemed like a tourist. As the girl waited for her order to come, she looked around the shop. Around the walls had newspaper articles dangling inside frames. She scooted closer to the articles, adjusted the goggles she was wearing to the top of her hat, and read the headlines of several:

Mayor Bagetta Awards Candy Lane Best in Tourist Attraction

Candy Lane Celebrates its 40th Founding

Candy Lane’s Dessert Wins Gold in National Pastry Tournament

City Arrests Mayor Bagetta for High Treason

Candy Lane Owner Goes Abroad to Train for Better Recipes

The girl stopped looked again at the 4th article, “City Arrests Mayor Bagetta for High Treason”. She thought it was weird to post a sad article around many happy ones. Ust as she was about to delve deeper as to why, her order was already shoved over her part of the long bar table. To her surprise, the crepe was big; Very, very, big, and strawberries draped with deep-red strawberry syrup. Along with these, there were also other toppings like waffles, little chocolate bars, and the typical sprinkles. It really was a feast for the eyes to simply look at the gigantic delight. As she was about to satisfy her taste buds with intense sweetness..

A group of gangsters were suddenly stopped at the front of the shop, tired from running.
*Loud noises outside*
“Hey, did we miss him already?” one of the gangsters said.
“I guess so..” another spoke
“Uhh wait, boss!! Look over there!”
“Isn’t that…HIM!?”
“Oh Gawd..”

The girl, along with all of the other customers, were surprised at their arrival outside.

“Sh*t…Don’t worry, I have a plan, just follow my queue.” The guy who seems to be their boss ordered.
As all the suspicious-looking men lined up outside, a boy’s scream can be heard:

“Hold up you gutless spines!!*pant* Under section XLV of the drug law, you guys are arrested for dealing illegal drugs to minors!”
Tyler was seen rushing towards the group of men.

“NOW!” The boss commanded.
By the end of his short command, all the men crashed towards the store, quickly grabbing any person nearest to each one, and making them hostages. Shock filled the shop and all of its customers, everybody panicked.

When Tyler had finally arrived at the shop, he was speechless. It seems to him that he has been outdone.

“Well, hello there, Mr. Goodguy.” The boss spoke, “If you really are on the side of justice, then you care about this widdle people that me my men are taking hostage, right?”

Tyler gulped.

The hoodlums then suddenly brought out knives and guns from their pockets and placed them close to each the the hostages.

“You better find a way to let these sh*tty guys escape. We’re just as ready to create a damned bloodbath right now, you see. If you let us go, we let these guys go too. Deal?”

The screams of the innocent shook Tyler into panic. Was he about to fail his mission? But oh good cherries he shouldn’t!! Who knows what would happen to him if his squad leader Shin found out? Or better yet, would he let these immature monkeys get the better of him, hurt the innocent and escape? For Tyler, as a member of Justice, he cannot allow that. HE WOULD NEVER EVER EVER ALLOW THAT. It would hurt his pride, of course.

Having the thought of his pride slowly being broken into pieces, Tyler slowly reached into the opening of the two long holsters attached to his waist.
“Heh. YOU GUYS THINK THAT WOULD MAKE ME GIVE UP? You are just as what I think you are, SIMPLETONS with brains the size of PELLETS.”
Restrain, Tyler. Restrain. I have to only use the stun gun they gave me. The boy quickly grabbed the stunner by the side of the holsters and dashed towards the nearest criminal. In an instant, he did an uppercut to the man and used his stun gun to knock him out, just as the criminal was about to realize what was going on. With Tyler’s incredible speed, he flew towards every hoodlum and effectively stunned them in a flash. And just as he was about to stun the last guy before heading for the leader, a loud gunshot was heard. Then even more rapid shots were blasted, like the sound of a machine gun.

“B-bastard goodguy… You think you’re the winner here eh? WELL YOU’RE NOT! Ha...hahahahaha!” It came from their boss, and he was holding a very big machinegun. He was merely shooting aimlessly, and he didn’t care if anyone was hit.

Tyler headed for the insane boss while he was dodging the many bullets that came from the machine gun. “Shooting randomly won’t get you anywhere..” As the boy was about to reach the stunner towards the man’s gut, he commented, “And talking big won’t get you anywhere either, so stop whining.” Zzzap. The big burly man collapsed, and fell on the floor.

Everything became quiet.

Tyler was then free to tear apart his brave front. All he felt now was regret and sadness.

Even though I was able to successfully seize the men, I failed to protect the citizens who were involved. With all that bastard’s useless shooting a while ago, some people were probably hurt.
He walked around the wreckage inside that is supposed to be a simple candy store, and saw a girl, about his age and had goggles resting above her forehead, out cold on the floor. A stain of red flooded a torn area on her jacket. He picked her up and into his arms. She was probably the only one shot.

Blood was inevitable in every mission, and he knew that. He knew that there would always be casualties in every mission, and that he couldn’t protect everyone.

I’m sorry; I’ve failed to protect you. It was supposed to a back-hand’s duty to protect the citizens no matter what, since we are more capable than the ordinary police. I thought in the beginning that protecting this city and its inhabitants would be easy, I’ve trained hard for a day like this to come, I’ve prepared mentally for whatever will happen…but I guess, that’s just not enough, isn’t it?

His thoughts were deeper than his words.

“I took my job for granted…I’m sorry. Even though I may not know you, I hope you rest well in heaven.” He wept a little, looking at the girl’s face. And slowly….

*cough cough*

The boy was startled. Did she just cough? So is she still alive!?

“Ughhh…where..where am I?” The girl woke up and spoke softly, after being out cold for some time.

“You’re in the remains of Candy Lane. You were a customer in here but then became a hostage of the gangsters that invaded while I was chasing them.” Tyler replied while putting her down for her to sit. He was definitely surprised. Anyone could’ve thought she was dead by the size of the torn part of her jacket and the amount of blood stains from it.

*cough* “Oh yeah…I was eating my uber crepe..” She spoke again, then looked at her attire, “Ah..the strawberry syrup spilled on me. Darn..”

So the blood was just syrup!?

“It seems that I was also shot by a bullet…” The girl then started removing her jacket. “Ahh hold up!! Don’t strip in front of me!!” Tyler barked before looking away. “Shot? ...Wait a second, you were shot right? So how come you don’t seem like you hurt at all?” He then asked.

“If you look back you’ll see.” The girl invited. Tyler did turn back, and what did he see? No, it isn’t very shocking or anything. The girl was actually wearing a bullet-proof vest. Very lucky of her to have worn one inside a candy shop.

The boy was obviously curious, “How the deck do you have a bullet-proof vest? Are you part of the military? The Front forces?”

“Well, you see, I’m not from A-dia---“

“It’s Adeodatus.”

“sorry ..not from Adeodatus City. I’m a traveler. And my journey simply led me here. But darn, that was my last bullet-proof vest… my master bugged me a lot before I left and kept on telling me that I should always be ready for anything. So, yeah, I’ve always worn a vest..Well, up until a while ago that is. Hehehe~”

Interesting…But she was damn lucky though. Tyler thought. “So what’s your name?”

“Natsumi. Yours?”

“Tyler…Tyler Adams.”

“Hi Tyler! So your supposed to be the police?”

“Stop that…well, not exactly. I’m part of the back-hand forces. We normally act like the front, or what you call the police, but were supposed to do our real job in isolation.”

Rrrinngggg~

Tyler’s transreceiver rang. “Excuse me…Hello?”

A familiar voice replied, “Be ready, it’s coming in 20 seconds!!”

“Damn you Shin!! If you have time to warn me, then why don’t you come here instead!?”

“I’m busy you runt. You have to forgive me today..Sorry~”

He was cut off again.

Natsumi, curious of the boy’s conversation with what she thinks is simply an earbud, wanted to ask. However, just as she was about to ask the boy about it, both felt an enormous tremble from below. The two held unto each other in order for safety, until the tremor stopped. Tyler panicked, again.

“Uh Natsumi, you better hide somewhere safe. Something huge will come any minute now, and I can’t risk anymore non-combatants.”

“But I know how to fig—“ Tyler closed her mouth with his palm.

The ground shook again. This time, the piles of rubble from the previous shootout were flying towards each other, forming body of two arms, two legs, a torso, and a head. A mythical creature made of the materials around it, made of its environment—A Golem.

Both were astounded by the creature. Standing as high as a 4-story building, the giant golem let out a big roar. The waves of the roar covered the entire city, turning the city into a shade of blue.

“This is my real job. We, the back-hand forces, are supposed to destroy these golems…go hide now!” The boy pushed the girl inside the remains of the candy store.
“H-hey!!”

To think that this would be my first time to battle a golem by myself..I should have prepared for this earlier. The question now is, can I beat it myself? Or at least, hold it out until Shin arrives? If he really would that is. *Gulp*

The raven-haired boy, reached for the opening of his holsters hanging on his waist, and with each hand grabbing on each handle, unsheathed the two, twin swords shorter than the average length of a katana. He readied his stance, and lastly, took a deep breath.

“Oh well. It’s time to start.” He then dashed towards the monster.
