Talon (Chapter 3)

He just stood there in the woods for a moment, and the boy's situation finally sank in.  He was lost in the woods, without a single fragment of any memories of how he had arrived in that weird lab, and to top it all off, he was a freak with giant bird wings.  The boy didn't even know his own name. He sank down to sit against the base of a tree, and he began to panic. "I'm doomed," he mumbled to himself. "I have no survival skills at all, and I can't just waltz into a town and not expect to be shot, or worse." He realized then that he didn't even know what his wings looked like. The outer feathers were brown and black striped,  with a few lighter brown feathers splashed around the top of the wing.  The under feathers were a mix of dark brown, light brown, black, and white.  The black feathers were so dark, that in the few rays of light filtering through the leaves above, they almost looked purple.
All of a sudden, the boy was hit by a wave of exhaustion, so he closed his eyes and leaned his head against the trunk of the tree and fell asleep.
