this past weekend i just experienced my first ship war over at tumblr for EreRi and wow -- the kind of words and emotions being thrown around IS NOT OK.
this isn't the first time that this fight took place. i don't know what started it; it may be provoked or unprovoked. either way the EreRi tag is being spammed to oblivion as we speak, with childish petulance and crippling bastardization. members of the community were anonymously attacked, bullied, and sent death threats. someone even attempted suicide over this. thank goodness that person was saved in time!
the fact that this war (or any ship war) is even happening greatly saddens me -- we shippers, no matter the ship, gather to celebrate love between two individuals. this is something to be cherished, not destroyed. the amount of negativity produced seriously adversely affects not just people of the community, but also the attackers themsevles -- because they allow themselves to fall into a toxic mentality and create a poisonous environment from which they themselves can't escape, no matter how justified they feel.
and honestly. how f***ing CHILDISH to attack others because they don't agree with you. because you judge and project your own principles unto others not for their own sake but for yours. all of this prejudice and discrimination because you can't accept that others have different views and behaviour.
unfortunately i can't say that the EreRi community came out on top with grace and elegance, because when such emotions run high, there will be (and are) people who fight back with similar low tactics.
again, very unfortunate that these things happen and will happen again in the future. i'm mature enough to know how to step away and be objective, but this doesn't mean i'm not horribly upset by it.
/end rant.
