Yes the best way to have the best quality when re-sizing, is starting from the biggest resolution and work your way down. If you do it otherwise, it's going to be pixilated. GIMP is like a limited photoshop, and the resizing option is like a basic thing, so I'm pretty sure GIMP has some sort of resizing method. A friend of mines just recently got GIMP, I'll ask her to see if she knows anything about that ^^.
Oh & it's allright, I didn't specify any size for the challenge.

...I have never tried making larger size wallpapers... :S can you suggest a good way to change sizes without losing quality? Is it best to just start at the largest size then crop it? Perhaps Gimp has some sort of re-sizing facility... I'll have to check it out. So, uh, sorry my entry doesn't have bigger sizes... :3
