This is a story about Kadashi, a young boy who is growing up in Japan. The time setting for this story is in the 1800s. It occurs during the civil war in the country and Kadashi is growing up in a Samurai family. I hope you like the story. I wrote it for a class. :)
Kadashi Tomodashi was born on August 5th, 1847 in Kyoto Japan. His father, Kyo Tomodashi, was a tough, mean, and oppressive samurai warrior. Kadashi’s brother, Yuki, five years his elder, shared the same characteristics. These two men would affect Kadashi’s life forever.
The first time Kadashi got a look at them, he felt a sense of fear and darkness. Much of it came especially from Yuki. The cruel boy glared at his brother with crimson, cold eyes and smirked.
“Father, are you going to make Kadashi tough and not a weakling like the other brats on the street?” Yuki asked.
“You know the answer, son. He is going to be a tough samurai like us. He will kill or be killed. The world’s a dark place and we must be tough on him,” Kyo replied.
And so that’s how life started out for Kadashi. In the beginning, Kyo was somewhat lenient on him. After all, he was just a baby and Kyo knew that babies are fragile and weak. But there were times when he lost control.
One night, Kadashi was hungry and cried for food. The mother was out in the village getting some, but had left the baby to Kyo and Yuki during her trip. That was not a wise choice. During the night, Kadashi was crying, throwing a temper tantrum.
“Shut up you little piece of garbage!” Kyo yelled at his son.
“Waaah!” the baby continued to cry.
Kyo continued to yell and curse around the room, making his son scared. Yuki just leaned against the wall and stared on emotionlessly. For ten minutes, the yelling went on and Yuki continued to be apathetic.
Finally, after thirty minutes, the mother came home and ran over to her kid, feeding him. She comforted Kadashi, making him calm down.
“What were you doing, Kyo?” she asked.
“Just showing the kid how to be tough,” he replied.
“You scared him!”
“I don’t care. Now if you don’t shut up, I’ll beat the crud out of you!”
She frowned and held Kadashi in her arms. Kissing his head, she managed to get him to stop crying and feed him.
“You’ll be okay, Kadashi,” she said and whispered, “Stay strong my son. Don’t let the two guys get to you. Stay tough.”
“Mother, stop whispering to the runt. He won’t understand you,” Yuki said.
“Yuki stop talking to me. I don’t understand your meanness.”
Yuki growled and walked off. Mother Tomodashi continued to cradle Kadashi, hoping for the best.
But the best wouldn’t come. Three years later, Kadashi was about to have a life-changing experience.
He walked into the dojo, as his father had ordered an hour before. There, both Yuki and Kyo stood, grinning evilly. The latter ordered Kadashi to swing the sword.
Kadashi grabbed a sword nearby and swung it, obeying his father’s orders. Yuki stood next to him and Kyo begun the sword-fighting lesson. He kept going over techniques, at times reviewing very quickly. Poor Kadashi was falling behind. He was just three old so the training was too hard on him. The little boy fell to the ground.
“Get up you piece of garbage,” Yuki remarked.
“No, brother, I am too tired,” Kadashi said.
“Get up!” Kyo screamed at his son.
“Father, I am too tired. I can’t get up. This is too hard.”
Kyo slapped his son on the face and kicked him on the stomach. Kadashi cried, unable to handle the pain.
“Stop crying! Men don’t cry! Weaklings and women do! You are a little piece of scum!” Kyo screamed, kicking his child twice on the stomach.
“Father, stop it! I love you father! Please, stop!” Kadashi said and cried more.
Yuki swung and punched his brother on the face, ordering him to stop crying. Kadashi barely got up, stumbled, and ran out of the dojo.
“Hey, come back here! You belong to me!” Kyo yelled.
Kadashi ran as far as he could, limping part of the way. Blood spewed onto the floor as he ran, leaving a trail of red marks. His father and brother chased, not wanting him to keep disobeying.
Fortunately, Kadashi was small. So, he ducked into some bushes and wiped the blood off his mouth. Kyo and Yuki ran past, running out into the city and yelling loudly.
Kadashi slid out from under the bush and started sneaking out of his father’s property at the same time. He wandered to another bush nearby and saw another man outside the area.
