Circus Wonder

Night stifled a laugh, trying not to make too much noise with their current surroundings. He watched how Meeko and Elizabeth were equally clumsy and shook his head. There was a noise that had caught his attention, in the distance where Meeko had apparently ran off. Night listened carefully and realized that Lizzy had already went up ahead. Night wanted to smack himself. She always did this, what was new?

Night came up behind Lizzy and put his hands on her small shoulders. He always felt like such a giant around her, in size at least. Otherwise, she was apparently so much braver than he. Now, if this were the seven seas he would definitely have her beat. He knew the waters better than any man, or woman, he had ever met. It was like they called to him, guided him, almost as if he were gifted with Poseidon’s watchful eye. He’d wondered that once before but dismissed it as not to look to hard into his fortunes.

He looked past her (or rather over her because she was a lot shorter) to see a colorful fountain of water. Was this is? Was this the sound? He’d wondered to himself what creatures were lying and waiting…

Night watched as Lizzy went up to Meeko, who was currently bounding back and forth from one spot to the next in excitement. She laughed at him and then picked him up but he scrambled to get back on the ground. He bounded, clumsily, over to the fountain of mystical, colorful waters. It’s hues of blues, purples and pinks almost like the sun setting. Night wondered how such a thing could exist… then again, there were things on this island that he didn’t understand at all. For some odd reason I felt drawn to this fountain of water. I wasn’t sure what it was but there was something that pulled the inner being of water within me. I looked at Lizzy with a worried face but she just smiled at me. Damn her and her ever positive expressions. Not that I minded… she always made me feel better yet silly for worrying too much at the same time.

Elizabeth sat on the side of the fountain and looked over the edge, down into the cotton candy looking waters. I get down on my knees beside her and looked over the edge as well. It had been awhile since I had seen my face… but I was still as handsome as ever. I smiled slightly, seeing her in the reflections and watching me. I slowly reached down to dip my finger tips into the chromatic mass and though I was a bit nervous, it felt like the right thing to do. I watched as the colors swallowed my arm, not being able to see beneath the surface. The colors swirled around my thick forearm and I was left in awe. There was a coolness about the waters despite the warmth of the day. It was refreshing and I smiled, Lizzy still watching the expressions dance across my face.

I lifted my arm above the waters surface and strangely the colors were still there. I looked at them and wondered how that was going to come off…..

I watched as those colors seeped into my skin and I blinked a few times. There was that coolness still… and it felt like I was refreshed. Like… I had drank the waters themselves. I felt that cool sensation travel up my arm and start to fill my whole body. Which, was a large body so I assume it took longer than it would if it had been Elizabeth. I suddenly heard a gasp from Lizzy and I turned to look at her.

“Night!!” My eyes were wide and wondered what the dickens was wrong. She had covered her mouth with surprise.

“What??” I asked her hurriedly.

“Your eyes!” she exclaimed.

“What? What’s wrong?”

“They’re glowing!” She said but she seemed… excited??

This girl was strange when it came to things I didn’t understand. I went back to the fountain and dropped to my knees so that I could get a better look. My silver eyes had a blue glow to them and I touched my face. The glow was brighter in my eyes but had spread all over my skin as well. I didn’t feel weird though… I felt.. better. Like I had the most perfect night of sleep in my entire life. Before I had time to think about it my arm was reaching back down to those swirling waters. I reached in and plucked out a ball of swirling water.

A ball… of water. What in the world?? I had never fathomed something such as this… like the mages of old, I was able to contort and twist the water as if it were pliable. As if it were thick like putty. Lizzy came over gleefully and poked the ball. It popped in my hands and I looked down at her with a smile.

I wondered to myself… what else could I do? This was all so strange…

I placed my hand a few feet above the water and saw in my mind it come to me. And it did. As if whatever I asked it to do, it would. I was somewhat bewildered but this was a strange and good feeling. I called the waters to me and as if I were in a circus juggled balls of water. It was as if the water was solid and did not break beneath my rough touch. I swirled them around me like ribbons and watched as Lizzys eyes lit up. We both laughed and enjoyed the show but I knew we couldn’t stay here. I tossed her a ball of the water and as she tried to catch it as it splattered over her and she gave me a look. I roared with laughter and she finally joined in. She knew I meant no harm and smacked my arm playfully.

“We should be going little one.” I said to her, realizing my accent was a bit heavier than usual. That happened often while out at sea… and then I realized. The Sea. It had always called to me… why would it not do so now? I tried not to think about it too hard.

I looked for a hard piece of fruit or a gourd of some kind, which lined this forest like wild berries. I broke a piece off and filled the gourd with the water. I’d fashion it like a canteen so that I could keep the waters with me. I looked to Lizzy and wondered if she was ready to head out. She smiled at me and we watched as Meeko bounded ahead of us.

Refreshing

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow as curiosity began tugging at her. They were steadily getting nearer the clearing; the trees thinning out somewhat. She let her hand slide over their trunks while she passed them. Their bark had an almost rubbery texture to it.

A few moments later and the trio was standing in a leaf-strewn clearing. The tree canopy overhead was almost too high up to see, but with Elizabeth's new sight, she could still make out the leaves and branches. It was like a large, open room meant only for them. A few strange looking fruit trees were around the edges of the clearing, standing in such a way to almost look like sentinels of the area.

Elizabeth grinned up at Night yet again as she stroked Meeko's chin. He hummed happily then blinked a few times and hopped off her shoulder. He ran (or tried to) across the leaves to the other side of the clearing. Night arched an eyebrow at Elizabeth, but she shrugged and wandered towards the direction Meeko went. She stopped when she almost stepped on him for he had suddenly quit moving and was looking up at her, blinking slowly. Once he noticed she was right over him he chirped and moved past the trees.

She tilted her head, noticing a barely audible gurgling sound that was coming from where he'd run off to. A bounce in her step, Elizabeth followed the little creature past the tree line.

New Horizons

Night watched Lizzy chow down on her piece of fruit. He smiled at her and was amused by Meeko’s antics. He still wasn’t quite sure about the creature but it didn’t seem any harm. He knew that in his heart... if for any reason that creature was to harm her he would destroy it right then and there. This of course would make Lizzy upset but he wouldn’t have her harmed by any such thing on this island. Who knows what could happen to her with all of the strange anomalies on this rock. Who knew what Night would do if he didn’t have her by his side... he shook his head and wrung the thought from his mind. He turned to look at her once more and realized she was far behind him. Had he kept walking without her? He looked at her with slight confusion in his face, wondering how he’d not been paying attention and why on earth she’d stopped.

“How’d you get so far ahead of me, Night?” She asked. Night looked at her and blinked a few times, wondering the same thing himself. "Guess I was standing there a while, huh? I'm sorry if I was... It’s just the trees look so amazing right now." Lizzy smiled and amused herself with Meeko’s reaction to how he scratched his head. Night watched her a moment and then motioned for her to catch up. Lizzy giggled and came trotting up next to him. She walked along side of him but continued to stare in wonder at all of the buzzing nature around her. He stole glances of her here and there, happily watching her facial expressions and trying to pretend his heart didn’t swell each time her face lit up. He wanted to smack himself and wake up from this dream... or nightmare... No, it had to be a dream if anything at all. How could a nightmare bare such a blessing as Elizabeth? His mind wondered off again but he refused to lose sight of her this time.

He felt that he needed to purge his mind of all of these thoughts. Why was she so captivating? Why did he gravitate towards her? She plagued his mind but in the most delicious way and he fought so hard to keep his hands to himself. He felt it wrong in this situation to be the way he was before he had stepped foot on this island. Perhaps, it was being here that had led him to shift in his personality? He wasn’t sure but he knew that Lizzy was all he had right now and he would treat her with respect and wait for her. Night looked down at her one more time. This time, he had caught her looking at him lost in her thoughts. She realized he was looking down at her and her cheeks flashed with heat. She giggled to play it off and smiled, turning away to pet Meeko and hide her embarrassment. He smiled at her and pet Meeko with a finger. He hadn’t realized how much pressure he’d applied and Meeko almost lost balance. They all laughed and walked a bit further until there was a clearing up ahead.

Small Window

Lizzie giggled as she bit into the strange fruit again. Juice ran down her chin as she continued to happily munch on her breakfast. Meeko chirped at her, running back and forth between her shoulders, obviously excited at something. She reached her hand up rubbed at the top of his head, laughing when he almost fell off his perch from trying to lean in closer to her hand. She smiled and pulled a small piece of the fruit off and offered it to the small lizard. He chirped again, sniffing at it, then make a few clicking noises before biting into the piece Elizabeth offered him.

The sun was directly above their heads now. She stopped and gazed up into the treetops, smiling at all the hidden wonders she knew were somewhere up there. A nudge from Meeko made her look back towards the ground. Night had gotten ahead of her and was standing there looking at her, a confused expression on his face. She tilted her head to the side a bit, now confused about why HE was confused.

"How'd you get so far ahead of me, Night?", she asked. He blinked a few times, a smile slowly creeping onto his face. She tilted her head a little more and blushed sightly. "Guess I was standing there a while, huh? I'm sorry if I was.. it's just the trees look so amazing right now." Lizzie smiled and petted Meeko's head, scratching around the ridges over his bright eyes then were closing in bliss.

Sour Delight

Night watched as Meeko's confirmation made him rest as ease more so than if Lizzy had bit a random fruit. He supposed his presence made him feel a bit more comfortable with the surrounding area. He knew with one of the creatures from this area on their side that he could learn more about this 'world'? He wasn't sure but it was worth a shot.

Night took another strange fruit and let Meeko sniff it. The small creature responded with a series of clicks and chirps, whcih Night had assumed that meant it was ok. He cracked it open and it smelled wonderful, like a summers afternoon. He took a bite and almost instantly spit it out. He coughed and tried to regain himself. "What the devil?! This is the most sour fruit I have ever tasted." He looked at Meeko and the lizard chriped in laugher. Night laughed as well and tosses the piece out.

"Ah well, I suppose taste testing is all eh I got." Night smiled and laughed and turned to Lizzy to see how she was enjoying hers.
