Forsaken Scars ~ Chapter 10 ~ Like a Salamander

Blinking several times, Ricky gazed about himself.
It was then that he recalled recent passed events.
Alerick had taken hold of him in mid-air, and used hiself as a shield to stop Ricky from banging against the cliff. But part way they had ended up breaking apart...
Confused, he looked down onto himself. He was still lying where he'd landed, his left wrist was twisted behind his back, whereas his right one was touching his cheek.
He'd landed with the majority of his body weight resting on his left side, so his right side was moveable without hurting himself too much.
Although, when he tried to push himself up he cried out in alarm as he felt his wrist snap beneeth him.
Hissing with pain, he rolled onto his right side blinking away tears as he grasped the broken limb.
It was then that he began to feel the rest of his body throbbing in agony. He stiffled a wimper and forced himself to sit higher up.
He had to find his...
"Al...?" He called out weakly. He'd spotted something on the ground in the distance, but he had to squint just to see that.
Gritting his teeth he began to stand. Little by little he upped himself onto his right knee, then slid out his foot from beneeth himself and began to gain height.
It all went smoothly until he shifted his weight onto his left foot.
The last thing he was aware of before passing out was the sound of his own voice crying out in agony...

Slowly regaining consciousness, Ricky realized his broken limb had been lightly bandaged, the pain was eased, and instead of feeling hard dirt beneeth his head, he felt something more on the lines of cloth.
It was then that he felt the urge to simply shout for his brother.
He'd become scared for him fairly quickly after realizing that he was more than likely in a much greater amount of pain.
He called out for him as loudly as he could before feeling his head heat up greatly, a wave of nautiousness suddenly swept over him and he unconsciously coughed as he felt his throat threaten to release the remains of his last meal.
Groaning, he felt a warm, yet soft pressure against his forehead.
Coughing again he whispered quietly
"...Al...?"
Again he heard a distant voice but wasn't sure of where from.
It was then that he realized he senses were still playing up, so evening his breathing he began to calm himself.
It was then that he finally heard him.
"...me Ricky... C'mon... just like before... You fainted on me now?"
"Al!" He shouted at the sound of the voice, he felt a smile spread on his face.
"Alright kiddo! Now... you gunna open your eyes or what?"
Squinting his eyes apart he began to see his brother leaning over him, a look of concern on his face.
Sighing, Alerick then smiled at his sibling.
"Good to see you finally awake"
Confused Ricky pondered the question before asking
"What do you mean by 'finally'?"
"? Oh! Right! well... when i found ya, you were totally out of it. No way of waking ya, so i tried pulling you into the shade." He gazed up at the sun's intense rays "You'd already gotten totally toasted out here in the sun so i figured you were just out of it cause of heat stroke but... that's when i saw the wrist." At this point he indicated at Ricky's bound limb "Looked a mess so i just yanked off my shirt and tried to keep it from falling apart on me. Anyway, i wasn't able to move you so i've just been sat here with you waiting for ya to come round. Hope ya don't mind but eventually i had to knick off (steal) with your shirt seeing as my top was on your arm and you were laying on my jacket."
Alarmed, Ricky stared at him wide-eyed, becomming conscious of himself
"Why?"
Sitting back, Alerick exposed his legs to his brother. Ricky flinched. He could already see that his shirt had long since gotton drenched in his brother's blood.
"What happened...? -When did it happen?!"
"When we fell. I kept trying to kick us away from the wall so it'd be less of a... bumpy fall. In the end i totally destroyed my right leg, the left un's just badly bruised."
"So how bad's the right one...?"
"Lets just say, i can confirm that i have white bones."
"It tore outa you're leg?!"
"Bluntly speeking... yes."
"!! Then how did you find me?! You shouldn't have been able to move!"
"Nah... i was fiiine! I just aimed to keep the most part of my weight on my left leg."
"But still-!"
"-Don't forget Ricky. There is a reason me and Tom have been nicknamed the "Ifrit Twins" for a reason. Just because i got battered about doesn't mean i'm out for the count. And heat is my specialty. Unlike you, i could quite happilly live out here!"
He said this with a grin and streched his legs out before himself.
"What do you mean 'unlike you'?"
"...Ricky... Me, Tom... even Rhys! We all know... so don't worry about it..."
Alarmed, Ricky sat up swiftly, hissing at the sudden dizzyness and began to glare at his brother
"I still don't know what you mean."
Alerick looked at his brother uncertainly.
"...You're different to us three."
Ricky's face dropped. He grew silent, casting his gaze upon the ground.
"...We've been able to tell for a while actually."
"How could you tell?"
"Well... firstly, lets compare myself with Tyrone. Quite a difference eh?" Ricky nodded, not quite sure he was following.
"And now lets compare you and Ty. Much bigger likeness. That's when we realized. You're almost exactly like him. Apart from hair colour or eye colour, age and element. You two are practically the same."
"I get it..."
He sighed gently.
"Anyway" Alerick chipped in "It's gunna get dark soon, and if this place takes after the desert, it's gunna get chilly. Soooo, we're gunna havta get you someplace warm."
"wont the cold do me better cause of the heat stroke?"
"...Ever walked into the house on a really cold day? There's snow outside and you were in mittens and everything? You put you're hands over the radiator to warm up - they go tingly but get really warm right?"
Ricky nodded. He loved the feel of it.
"Okay, now imagine it backwards. You've just been increadibly hot, then you go suddenly cold. And considering we're in a desert-like place, not at home, times that coldness by ten. Also bear this in mind - theres no saying we're gunna find any source of heat right now. Then what? ...Trust me. It's gunna get cold."
Just before Alerick limped off in search of a safer/warmer place to rest, Ricky called out to him again.
"Al?"
He turned and grinned
"Whats wrong? Trying to find me with you're eyes closed again?"
Ricky blushed he heard that?! DAMN!
"Shut up jerk! I was gunna ask... how did you cope with the heat? Doesn't it burn into you're skin? - the sand... dirt stuff, i mean."
"Simple!" He flashed him a grin before continuing on his way "Like a Salamander!"

Whew! That took a while to do! I haven't prove read the last couple of pages, so if you see mistakes - tell me kay?
I hope someone's still reading. I got absolutely no comments on the last 2 chappies so... yeah. Some sort of feedback?
also, the salamander reference.
When lizards are in deserts, to avoid their feet/hands/paws? burning up, they do this dance like thing. where they lift two alternate/opposite feet into the air for a few seconds before swapping em.
Basically, it'd have been a funny sight for a broken legged Alerick to have been balancing in the air like that. ^o^
I wanted a funny image in your minds :D

Oh yeah! Next chappie...
Premonition;

He stared at the other, eyes wide with disbelief.
Curious, his brother asked slightly worried;
"What's wrong Suu? You've gone totally pale!"
"...Don't go after them Zouski... In that place... Don't go after them... when you find out... about us..."

Laters peeps! ^^
