Death Note (デスノート, Desu Nōto) - is a Japanese manga series created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata. The series centers on Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook dropped on Earth by Ryuk, a shinigami ("death god"), that allows Light to kill anyone by writing the victim's name in the notebook. The user must also know the face of the victim to prevent anyone with the same name from being harmed. The story follows Light's attempt to create and rule a world cleansed of evil using the notebook, and the complex conflict between him and his opponents.

How To Be L?.... (Basic Actions) : How to Sit.

Basic Actions

HOW TO SIT.

External Image External Image External Image

L’s most identifying feature is the way he sits. Basically, you put your feet up, pending them at the knees, and keep your leg straight in front, so that your knees come in front of your face. Pretty easy ne? Now, you might be thinking, that it might make it terribly hard to do other things, like pick up the phone, talk, bend over, but not at all! As seen in Example 2, bending over is relatively simple, you just have to put your knees apart, and TADA, bend over, your dignified position is still maintained. If you happen to sit on the floor, you can sit either this way, or just sit in the Indian style with your fingers inward. This is an excellent meditation position, and many times L sits like this just to think things over. Thus, the third position can be incredibly useful when trying to stay up all night thinking about secret identities of Kira.

How To Be L?.... (The Looks) : The Hair.

The Looks

HAIR

External Image External Image External Image

The Hair is one of the most defining features of L next to the eyes… So it’s easier to break it down in steps.

Step 1: First, go to the hairdresser and get a nice trim, making sure it’s fairly uneven and layered. The ends should go no longer then the end of your neck, check if the left hand side is longer than the right. Usually, this step can be a bit embarassing and if the hair dresser doesn’t understand what you want her to do, show him/ her a picture of L from Chapter 11. If she laughs at you, get a new hairdresser, because he/ she obviously has no sense of style, pfft… If you don’t have pure black ebony hair, go buy some L’Oreal hair dye, and get it black. You can easily dye your hair at home, since most salons charge you quite a lot of money for it. For people with curly hair, just get it straightened, this would make it easier to spike either way.

Step 2: DISHEVELLED. That’s the look you are going for. Sure, spike it up a bit, use plenty of hair gel, but don’t make it look as if you did it on purpose! No! You must make sure it seems like you just got out of bed, put on a pair of clothes, and are going to meet someone. This is a key point in the hair. TIP: Sweep the strands in several different directions. The left hand side should have a bit more hair than the right. So sweep towards the left in the back. I suggest buy a canister of super-hold hair spray. A volumizer is nice too.

Step 3: Finally, spike off the ends with some gel, and by now the left hand side of your head should have a bit more hair. Make sure to fluff it up on the top and give it some body. This way you can make your hair stick up some more. Pull some strands over your eyes, and you’re done!

The Looks

EYES.

External ImageExternal ImageExternal Image

As you can see, the eyes are a key feature to L. Just looking like you are tired is NOT enough! You must be able to move your eyes like L, and develop bags under your eyes like him. In the first image you see a nice imitation of L. What’s wrong with this picture you might ask? Look at his eyes! they are not baggy enough and seem like they know something you don’t. The only way to obtain L’s perfect eyes is to stay awake all night, drinking tea or coffee, thinking about things no one would care to really think about. In the second image, you see the transition phase, it has some nice bags, but is missing something. You need the bags, but also the LOOK. In the third image, you see the completed phase. In this image, you can clearly notice the beautiful bags, but also the stupid look. Your eyes shouldn’t give away any emotion and must look unattentive and lost. This way, the enemy will never be able to tell what you are thinking, and you have the upper hand. This is what makes you the greatest detective in the world.

Tsugumi Ohba: The Writer

External Image

Ohba is a writer no one really knows about. Most say he/she is an anonymous pen name writer. So here, I'll just post some random things that are mentioned in the Panels. Ohba was born in Tokyo, has a hobby collecting Teacups, and develops manga plots day and night while holding knees on a chair (like L :P).
From recent sources, one of which is a friend of an assistant of a JUMP comic, we strongly believe that the author of DEATH NOTE is actually Hiroshi Gamou, who was the author of the JUMP series Tottemo! Luckyman. The reason why Gamou chose to hide his identity is strongly due (as was related by sources) to the fact that the series is very different from his past work (VERY TRUE!). Gamou was born on August 17, 1962 in Tokyo Japan and has the blood type B. Some of Gamou’s previous assistants included Murata Yuichiro (Eyeshield 21) & Nishi Yoshiyuki (Muhyo & Rosie). (I will collect more info on this person later).

Takeshi Obata: The Artist

External Image

Takeshi Obata was born on February 11, 1969. He is 174 cm tall, 53kg (at the time of Hikaru No Go), blood type AB. In general, Takeshi is famous for his art, as he collaborates with writers. Some of his works include Hikaru No Go (with Yumi Hotta from 1998 to 2003/04), Ayatsuri Sakon (with Sharakumaro), and Arabian Majin Bokentan Lamp Lamp (with Susumu Sendo). He was sensei to Nobuhiro Watsuki ( Rurouni Kenshin ) and stated in an interview, that he has about 5-6 assistants at a time. For coloring, Obata uses Copic (alcohol based) markers, from the lightest to darkest shades. After the completion of Hikaru No Go, Takeshi paired up with Ohba, and worked on Death Note. His brilliant artwork is known almost to everyone, and sadly, not much is known about him… He likes riding his bicycle ^^.

"The Hitlist..." (Part Two)

Hitlist:

Name: Osoreda Kiichiro

External Image

Death: He hijacks the bus with Ray Penber. Light convinced Penber to show him his ID. Kiichiro is then handed a note by Light, which is a piece of the Death Note. For this reason, he is able to see Ryuuk and shoots at him, with no avail. Scared, he then runs out of the bus only to be run over by a car. (1.7)
Killed By: Kira
Reason: Light organized it so that he could convince Penber to show him his ID. This way he could get rid of him. He used Kiichiro to do this.

Name: Raye Penber

External Image

Death: After gaining his name on the bus. Light corners Penber in the subway station. Here, he forces him to get on the car and send him the list of all the FBI Agents in Japan. He threathens him with his fiancee (out of sheer guessing). Thus, he gains this information to kill the FBI Agents and then writes Penbers name into the DEATH NOTE. He dies outside the door of the subway car. The names we see are the following: “Halley Belle, Raye Penber, Atire Weekwood, Freddie Guntair, Lian Zapack, Ale Funderam, Knick Staek, Bess Sekllet, Frigde Copen”. (2.9)
Killed By: Kira
Reason: He was assigned to follow Light to observe him, as intructed by L. Light decides he must kill him, but before doing that obtain information. So he does this.

Name: Misora Naomi

External Image

Death: Supposedly by Suicide, though it is not seen since her body isn’t supposed to be found. (2.14)
Killed By: Kira
Reason: She comes to tell the L Investigation team about Raye Penber and her belief that Kira can control his victims before their death. Instead, she meets with Light, and Light thinks she knows too much about him, and decides to kill her. She tells him a fake name first, but he manages to make her reveal her true identity.
