Star Blazers: Dream Cast Call

As some of you know, Skydance Productions is currently in talks about doing a U.S. live-action film based specifically on the Americanized "Star Blazers" dubbing(s) of "Space Battleship Yamato" and not on the original Japanese version. While we await for news on whether or not the the company gets the go-ahead, I thought I post up a feature indicating which actors/actresses I find could fit and look the part per "Star Blazers" character role (whether a need for facial make-up and wig/tupee or not). Don't ask why. It's just fun stuff I thought of doing inspired by the cast call segments of Wizard magazine. Note that in the list you're seeing, "Star Blazers" character name at left, actor/actress names at right:

  • Derek Wildstar: Tom Welling (from "Smallville")
  • Capt. Abraham Avatar: Jeff Bridges (from "Tron: Legacy") or Sean Connery (from 1960s "James Bond" films)
  • Nova Forrester: Jessica Alba (from 2005's "Fantastic Four")
  • Mark Venture: Shia LaBeouf (from 2007's "Transformers")
  • Sandor: Brent Spinner (from "Star Trek: The Next Generation") or Ben Savage (from "Boy Meets World")
  • Peter Conroy: Jensen Ackles (from "Supernatural")
  • Jefferson Davis Hardy: Jared Padalecki (from "Supernatural")
  • Dash: Stephen Colbert (from "The Colbert Report")
  • Eager: Jack Black (from "School of Rock")
  • Homer Glitchman: David Tennant (from 2005's "Doctor Who")
  • Sgt. Knox: Jim Belushi (from "According to Jim")
  • EDF Commander Charles Singleton: Michael Hogan (from 2000s "Battlestar Galacticca")
  • Queen Starsha: Jennifer Anniston (from "Friends")
  • Leader Desslok: Denis Leary (from "Rescue Me")
  • General Lysis: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (from "The Tooth Fairy")
  • General Krypt: Christopher Lloyd (from "Back To The Future")
  • Colonel Ganz: Christopher Eccleston (from 2005's "Doctor Who")
  • Major Bane: Ricky Gervais (from BBC's "The Office")
  • Capt. Gideon: Bruce Greenwood (from 2009's "Star Trek")
  • Princess Invidia: Angelina Jolie (from "Lara Croft Tomb Raider")
  • General Scorch: Tyler Labine (from "Reaper")
  • General Naska: Taylor Lautner (from "Twilight")
  • General Gorse: John Glover (from "Smallville")
  • General Torbuck: Shemar Moore (from "Criminal Minds")
  • General Bleak: Thomas Gibson (from "Criminal Minds")

That's all I can think of. You're welcome to comment on my dream cast feature. If you like, you can give your opinion on what actor/actresses based in North America or Europe could fit and/or look the role of a "Star Blazers" character in a Western-made live-action "Star Blazers" movie, but think Americanized "Star Blazers", not the original Japanese "Space Battleship Yamato".
