The Chain - Intro

Some quick introductory/background information before we kick off this fanfic. I'll probably add more onto this if I get more questions/as it becomes necessary.

The Chain:
Simply put this fanfic is named for the Fleetwood Mac song “The Chain”. After worrying about my decision over the name, I remembered a chapter of the Buffy Season 8 comic also titled “The Chain” and that helped ease my decision. The idea roughly is that the chain can not be broken. It’s a force that is forever linking people and places together; it’s unending and always continuing on.

Pyromania and Roxas:
To me a funny little quirk in the Kingdom Hearts mythology was the fact Roxas’ element was “light” and Axel’s was “fire”. Fire for a long time was used as a source of light, our greatest source of light comes from a giant fire ball (aka the sun). I thought it was quirky and kinda funny that the two were linked together in such a way. While many people write Axel off as a pyromaniac I thought it honestly made more sense for Roxas to be the one obsessed with fire and the light it gives off.

Roxas’ Family:
Because this fic can mostly be labeled as AU (alternative universe) I wanted to give him a family structure that would both seem realistic and explain his psyche. Roxas’ father isn’t really in the picture, his mother is a feminist who loves her kids but does spend a lot of her time winning bread, and he has a headstrong little sister who is highly self-sufficient. He’s pretty much left to his own devices and he honestly feels bad about troubling the adults in his life with his problems.

Mostly an AU:
I’ve never written a ‘next life’ story. This is my stab at it. We’re very much in the same universe. There are different Worlds, there is magic and keyblades. The story takes place in the future, and everybody from the cannon-verse has passed away. How much time has passed? I’m not sure, but enough has passed that keyblades and Heartless have passed out of general knowledge and stories. The Worlds are unmovable, unchangeable forces so you can assume that all the Disney Worlds are out there on probably the same paths they’ve always been on.
