Hello there, this is Katana, also known as Kat in some circles. I'm your friendly neighborhood twenty-two-year-old illustrator/writer whose sarcasm is second to none and harboring the ability to verbalize the parentheses in stories. I drink coffee and draw like an addict and am liable to get you into things that I like. Currently the wielder of a BFA in Illustration and a minor in English.

Questions? Comments? Death threats? Feel free to PM or message me in some iteration. I'm always around, you just don't know it.

"Some of the great artists of our time started off by doodling in class. ...Maybe. Oh heck I dunno."
- Miss Anonymous

Hell yes!

This is also posted over at myOtaku. For general life stuff, I'm going to keep a dual-blog. and stuff. Anyways, on with the post!

---

Because I am a great student, I leave everything until the last minute. Never have I had such a great example until now.

Every quarter, we are assigned to read a book for my AP Brit Lit class. Well, it's a book of our choice, but it has to be approved by the teacher under a certain set of criteria, etc. etc. In the past, I've read "Grendel" by John Gardner and "The Good Earth" by Pearl S. Buck.

But third quarter is third quarter, which means it's just...chock full of crap. Also, it was the start of my semester of AP Government, which is, in itself, a handful [despite the teacher going 'THIS ISN'T A LOT OF WORK BLAH BLAH']. So I shirked off all book report duties.

For weeks.

And then, last week, it was announced that the papers were due Friday, March 7th. ...And I continued to shirk off my duties.

But from the start, I knew I wasn't really going to read a book, and that I was really gong to SparkNote some short read [since we're allowed one short book], write a mediocre paper, and get a 26/30 on it. Sounds like a plan!

But what's really fun is freaking people out the way I did. For instance, today in multimedia...

Katana: Yeah, we have those book report essays due tomorrow.
Andrew: Really? So what are you reading?
Katana: I dunno. I haven't picked out a book yet.
Andrew: WHAT?!
Katana: Yeap!

And that's what happened. At 7:50pm, I chose the book I was going to "read" - "Animal Farm" by George Orwell [of "1984" fame]. At 8:40pm, I started to write my paper, got blessed with some magic, and ended up writing my longest paper ever for this class. XD;

Remember kids! I am the best damn role model ever! >3 *whacked brick'd shot*

Otaku Otaku Revolution

Each generation of human beings is different from the others, be it fashion, food, or politics. The same is now applying to anime and the fans of it. “Just now?” you’re asking as you stare at the monitor. “In...

I'm like a hyperactive, rabid monkey...

I keep bouncing and twitching and making new posts. It's like - BAM! - new discovery, something made, etc. etc.

Now that I've had the day to adjust to VV, I have some more comments. Let's see...

PROS
-Pages are loading up faster than this morning. I think the Curse of the Morning Slug just carried over from the previous version.
-Exploration is fun. I've been poking around and managed to find a good handful of people without having to find links to them. XD;
-PNG support for avatars. FTW!

CONS
-The lack of HTML support is really the biggest flaw we've got going here. Honestly. Could we at least get a WYSIWYG/HTML duo editor? [Gah, I hate BB code so much...]
-Non-uniform file support across the site. So my avatar can be a .PNG but not any introduction image? Huhm.
-The fact that news is now shoved off in a World rather than being on the front page. This is the second biggest flaw we've got going here, in my opinion. I mean...when I log onto theOtaku, I want to see news. BAM! Right there. I don't want to go wading off.
-Organization seems to be rather messy. Everything is nice and large, but tables seem non-existent. The Words section is probably the most evident of this problem, as it's all basically toppling on itself and looks like an eyesore.
-Emptyness. Seriously. Too...much...white...! The tops of pages look nice, but as you scroll on, it's...blah.
-Lack of personalization for Worlds. Seriously, I have to have either a background image or use a pre-existing one? I can't just choose a color? Hey, how come my avatar doesn't pop up in my intro? Wait, why is it Worlds display absolutely NO more information?
-The emoticons are useless, sorry. I prefer :3 and XD and P: and >>; and such. Besides, when I look at the emotes, they just don't strike me as very...different from one another.

...

I'm sorry, I complain a lot. ._.;

A Look Back, A Look Ahead

So here we are. It’s been a journey, hasn’t it? Over the course of months – or, let’s face it, years – theOtaku has grown and morphed into something entirely different than what it started off as. Incredible, eh? Perhaps I...

And here we are

...
Huh. So here we are.

*looks around* AGH! The box just implo - ah, it expanded to fit my growing post. Excellent, now I'm not so claustrophobic anymore...

Who am I and why am I here? I'm Katana, my friends, and this is now my...world? I suppose that's how you describe it. Most of you are going to be finding this from myOtaku anyways, of which I'm going to keep up until the day the plug is pulled. WOAH the box just expanded again.

Immediate complaint: Load times are tedious. I hope to see improvement.

Immediate lightbulb: OMFG the words section DOES exist.

Secondary complaint: Wah I want my article to carry over. ;_;

Since I'm bumming around here at 6:47am, my brain isn't really in full function mode quite yet, so I'm finding navigating the new site rather difficult. Given that I've only been hacking at it for ten minutes, I think I'll need some more time to adjust. >_>

Okay okay, I'm going to come back after drama club and rework this. And like...do...stuff with it. Yeah. Pie.

Katana, out!
