I hear these kinds of stories pretty often on DeviantArt. Someone there even reported ME because he saw a few drawings of my that were traced. (I mentioned that it was traced and it was for practice,he didn't listen until the very moment he finally looked at my whole gallery, then it was like "Oh,it was just for practice" and I was like "...WHAT THE HELL DID I TRY TO TELL YOU ALL THIS TIME?!" I could really kill him,you know...Saying that I was an art-thief and that tracing is not art and more blahblah....What else I did in defense was to put the link to the original drawing and/or the artist's name in my describtion. Like, all 4 tracing drawing were from existing anime/game,so yeah.)
I haven't heard of this guy ever again, probably feeling guilty for accussing me for stuff I'm not even guilty for.
But,drawing with a reference is a different story, because with a reference drawing, you still have to concentrate a lot. And even the best manga-artists used references for everything, like kitchens, houses, arms, whatever.
Do you know where that person has uploaded drawings that looks waaaaay too similar to yours? Send a message to the owners of the site or report it through a report button (if there is one) when that "artist" won't listen to you.
I hope this helped.
And sorry for my absence,I've been a bit unactive on TheO,since I'm already have a busy time at DeviantArt...And I didn't really felt like keeping up two sites. xD;
The rest of the world doesn't give much attention to the art world, so stealing is frequent, which is pretty sad when people steal others' work but it happens. And chances are you don't get credit. Even if it is fanart, it's still wrong to take it. Unless it is true original artwork that is copyrighted, there is not much you can do about it but confront the person with rationality. Report them also, because it's likely that they've stolen other artwork.
I can understand if someone favorites and artwork or downloads it on their computer or photo-storing website because they admire it and like the art for their viewing pleasure; but taking it and claiming it's theirs or reproduce and sell it w/o permission is wrong.
Usually people ask me if they could show my art to a friend or keep it for personal use while still giving me credit for it is fine by me and as far as I know none of my art has been taken, but I'm sure somewhere that someone is showing it off; and that pisses me off.
It is always a good idea to sign your name on your art in person and not do it on the computer, people have the technology like photoshop to erase and edit stuff like that, but at least you know you have the original copy. Doesn't give much comfort, but the least it gives you is credibility. I don't know what else to say other than I really feel for you.
I can see why you are hurt by this, I mean that is pretty wrong. I remember I was kind of hurt once because someone redid a picture for me and they colored it all wrong and changed evertything and it was rather insulting. But you should try confronting this person and let them know to give you credit and tell them it's wrong and you can't just do that. I can only imagine how you must have felt! Geez, how inconsiderate
so she/he actually used ur lineart that you referenced?not even try drawing it themselves? - now thats shody --Ok can totally see why ur mad - thats just sad
Actually not all but some are which I won't deny but this person does the same thing as well. All of hers are referenced...it doesn't matter if the pick if referenced, what matters is that she used MY line art without my permission.
Its not mean, its your opinion...
Santa better bring me something nice....or else I will sick Shinji on his fat @$$! Happy Holidays!
Maybe they forgot who they took it from? Once I used a pic on here as a reference only and forgot who I referenced it from... O.O I dunno....Please don't get too worked up about it...Ok?
Posting anything online....There is always a risk of someone taking pictures or info...

so which pic did they use? an original? i mean a lot of your drawings are copied off the actual art so in a way that person is just doing what you have been doing - copying. Sorry if it sounds mean but - i really liked a lot of your original work more - and the ones i loved were the ones that were deleted on your last account here.
ack I saw that =/ Honestly, I understand referencing and things, but I can see why you would be agitated. They should have given you credit for the reference at least.

The plagiarism on this site sickens me, especially when it's glaring oblvious that it's fanart. It's the main reason that I don't like this site half as much as I used it.
