Hello all of you! This is where you can ask me any question you have ever wondered. (like: How come the sky is blue? How do frogs "do it"? ect.)
PM me the question you want answered and I'll post it (anonymously if you wish) along with the answer. PLEASE ask questions! If you people don't, I'll be forced to ask myself questions- and that's creepy...

Here is how the questions are categorized:

1. Objective: (ex. Why is the sky blue) Purely a straight-forward, non-debatable question
2. Semi-objective: (ex. What will happen on December 21, 2012?)The answer to this question is still debated. I will present both sides objectively and then give an OPINION on which side I believe to be correct.
3. Subjective: (ex. Is there a God?) I'd prefer NOT to answer these type of questions, but if I do, I will present all sides equally and allow you to draw your own conclusion WITHOUT my opinion.
4. Theoretical: No one is really sure on an answer here. I will give the best possible answer known to experts. Just know that this is a question that may or may not have a real answer yet or ever.

Again, PLEASE submit questions.

Why Does It Hurt When I Put Salt on My Arm and Then Put Ice on It?

Asker: Bob- My InvisiBULL Imaginary Friend

Category- Objective

Well Bob, This all has to do with latent heat of fusion. What did you say, Bob? OH! You don't know what that is? That's OK, I'll explain! Latent heat of fusion is the amount of energy a substance needs to gain to melt or the energy lost to freeze. When you put salt on your arm and put ice on it, you mix the melting ice with salt, producing a small amount of salt water. Salt water melts at a lower temperature, so the ice melts faster and more easily. When a substance melts, it has to gain heat, right? Well, where does that heat come from? YOU! The ice literally drains your arm of heat (which hurts REALLY bad) to melt. Salt isn't the only substance that will do this- almost any substance you dissolve into water lowers the melting point and raises the boiling point.

What are the Theories of a closed and open Universe?

Asker: Koishi Manga

Caegory: Semi-Objective

OK. First you need to know the definition of a closed and open universe. A CLOSED universe is a theory that the universe has some boundary that prevents it from expanding indefinitely. An OPEN universe is a theory that the universe is free to expand endlessly.

Now, the Open Universe Theory states that the universe is a plane that extends forever. This upholds the idea that a point is viewed the same at any point in the universe. The constant curvature of an Open Universe is zero. A plane has a constant zero curve.

A Closed Universe Theory states that the universe is an nth dimentional sphere. This sphere expanded at a certain rate since the Big Bang and will reach a point in time where the total mass will pull the universe back to a zero volume point in the Big Crunch. This theory also upholds the idea that a point is viewed as the same at any point in the universe. An expanding sphere has a constant positive curvature.

Now, there IS a theory that you did NOT mention: A Critical Mass Universe.
This theory is a modified closed universe theory. It states that the universe has the exact amount of mass needed to give the universe a constant volume (That is to say, the universe is neither expanding or contracting, now or ever.) It also says that the red shifts that we observe that seem to tell us that the universe is expanding are actually due to the curvature of space-time at the edge of the universe. There is a lot more mass towards the center of the universe than towards the edges. The mass near the center bends light with its gravity towards us in such a way as to appear to be a red shift.

I have no real opinion on this subject. Sorry. I've never really worried about the expansion (or non-expansion) of the universe. If I had to go with one of these, I'd go with the Closed Universe Theory. It makes the most sense to me. Hoped this helped! If you would like more detail, I'd be happy to PM you with more info.

How do frogs "DO IT"?

Asker: The fifth perverted voice inside my head..... I told you if I don't get any questions from you people I'd have to start talking to myself.....

Category: Objective

Ok, fifth-perverted-voice-inside-my-head, frogs are amphibious creatures. They do NOT have sex in the way we are familiar with. Frogs have extrasomal (I made the word up, but it means the right thing)sex which means "out of body" sex. First, you need to know the basic anatomy of a frog:

A frog have one entrance orifice: the mouth. It has one exit orifice: the cloaca. The cloaca is a hole which connected the frog's rectum, bladder and sex ducts to the outside world.

Now then. The male frog mounts the female who is swollen with eggs. He grips her tightly and squeezes her fat abdomen forcing the eggs out (along with urine and feces). He then releases his sperm out of HIS cloaca (along with HIS urine and feces) and fertilizes the eggs. Then, both parents USUALLY die.

Some frogs can even switch genders in the absence of the opposite gender. (Animal sex-change!! )

OK, fifth-perverted-voice-in-my-head, I hope that answered your question!

PEOPLE: ASK ME SOME QUESTIONS OR I'LL BE FORCED TO SHARE WITH YOU THE GRUESOME DETAILS OF HOW WORMS AND JELLYFISH "DO IT"......I MEAN IT!

Are Cell Phones Hazardous?

Asker: Nica (nica624)

Category: Semi-Objective

There is considerable debate over this question. Some experts claim that cell phone use increases the likelihood of brain cancer. Others say this is not true and that cell phone emissions in moderation are not harmful at all.

There are three factors that contribute to "dangerousness" :
1. Wattage output of your phone
2. Frequency of usage of your phone
3. Distance from a receiving station

The average cell phone puts out about .2 to .5 watts of power. This is pretty small. However, this output can increase as you get nearer to a receiving station (getting more bars basically).

The most important factor is the amount of time you spend on your phone. The more time you spend on your phone, the more energy you are exposed to. The more energy you are exposed to, the more likely cellular damage is going to occur. This can lead to cancer.

Now if you are on your phone 24/7, your body has no time to repair any slight possible damage that may occur. Your body is constantly repairing itself and removing damaged cells. But, if you are on your phone ALL the time, your body can't keep up.

Cell phone usage in moderation is not harmful. Usage in extreme (I mean unnaturally extreme) DOES show a trend toward brain tumors.

There are much more dangerous things to do with a cell phone than simply being exposed to mild radiation. Like driving while talking on one. I was in a very bad wreck because a woman red a stop sign because she was talking on a cell phone and not paying attention.

How do you make a machine to use the properties of spacetime as a means of propulsion?

Asker: Yoji (therealyojimbo)

Category: Theoretical (I had to add a whole new category because of you, Yoji)

A warp drive would work like this: Instead of moving the ship to a distant destination, you move the destination to you. You do this by shrinking space in front of you and expanding space behind you. You don't actually move. Doing this causes you to "pinch" off a bubble of space time. The universe would move under you.

Now, how does one build a machine to do this?
The nature of a warp drive is that you move faster than the speed of light. Now you get into complicated physics.

No one is really sure HOW to move faster than the speed of light. According to a book I read that didn't give a lot of detail said that a straightforward calculation showed that you need negative energy to move faster than the speed of light. It didn't give the calculation itself. Negative energy has been shown to exist (I'm not talking about anti-matter or anti-energy.), but only in minute quantities way to small to be useful.

If you're really interested in this stuff read "Physics of the Impossible" by Michio Kaku.

I'm sorry people, I posted this in the wrong world!
