Hey, it's Sesshy.Uber.Rad--guest poster. I thought I would talk to you really quick about global warming. :]
Unfortunately, there are some people that don't believe that global warming exists. Well, there is plenty of evidence. Before all of this really bad global warming mumbo jumbo, every year, the earth's temperature increased by about .6 to .9 degrees C (or 1.08 to 1.62 degrees F) which is a natural process. BUT NOW this has been doubled over the past ten years, and the number is still rising.
Okay, so like 2 degrees F increase doesn't seem like alot, but it changes ALOT of things. One inevitable consequence of global warming is sea-level rise. In the face of higher sea levels and more intense storms, coastal communities face greater risk of rapid beach erosion and damage from destructive storms. Warmer temperatures will alter weather patterns, making it likely that there will be more intense droughts and more intense rain events. Also, the glaciers in the south are melting at a much much faster rate than usual, causing the sea level to rise very rapidly. So far, more than 200,000 people have been displaced, because now, their homes are under the water. And the polar bears are dying. D:
Does global warming exist now? It doesn't seem important to us, the people that live on safe land, but it very much exists to the thousands of people that had to move from their homes. It very much exists for the people who have lost their homes due to ferocious storms. We're just so in our own world that we don't stop to notice what's going on out there. And unfortunately, I don't think people here are going to notice until OUR country starts to slip beneath the waves.
