The Spirit Stone

“Welcome, he who holds the Spirit Stone.”

Justin was not much older than his father was when he set out on his first adventure. After a small walk around the Sult Ruins, he was ready to travel to the New Continent and become a fully-fledged adventurer. There he met a young woman named Feena, and soon fell in love. After travelling to the mystical floating continent of Alent, they befriended the woman Liete, and the three, along with a young man from Cafu, they defeated the evil known as Gaia.

A few years later, he returns to his hometown of Parm with Feena, and their three children. His cousin, Sue, came to greet them, and he was stunned by how much she’d grown.

“Sue? Is that really you?” he stammered, as his children swarmed around her. “Of course it is, silly, don’t you recognize me?” Sue really had grown a lot, she was a young woman now, and seemed much braver for it. Her childish cuteness was gone, totally replaced with a sense of feminine charm, and even Puffy seemed to have grown. “Puff-Puff!” He called as he flew in circles around Justin’s head.

“Hey you guys, don’t forget about me!” Feena called from the port, and ran over. Sue was surprised to see that, despite the three children, Feena had retained her youthful figure, and her face was as beautiful as ever. “Can’t you three keep calm for ten seconds?” Feena said, not a trace of anger in her voice. “Come on, give Auntie Sue a break!” Sue stepped backwards. “Auntie? I’m an Aunt? Since when?” The adults laughed.

“We decided to name then Jake, Gadwin and Reisha.” Feena said as she followed Justin and Sue through the town. “Gadwin was so kind, his name just popped into our heads. Where is it from here?” Justin looked a little confused. “Oh, honestly! Left turn here!” Sue laughed, and Justin blushed a little. “It’s been a long time, don’t forget! We’ve been adventuring, and building a house and I don’t have enough brain space to remember all this!”

“Here we are, the Seagull Restaurant!” Sue said grandly. Justin gasped. It had gotten so much bigger! His mother must have had it extended, it now seemed at least twice as large, and was bustling with customers. The front wall was replaced with glass, and Lilly turned around from the table closest to the glass and gasped. Dropping her notepad, she apologised to the customers and ran outside. “Justin! You’ve grown so much! How are you? And this is the lovely Feena that Sue has been telling me so much about! And these must be your children, to think I’m a grandmother, this is all too much, well come in, come in, before the wind blows and our faces stay like this! Come on!”

Lilly lead them inside. “Now, if you head upstairs, the restaurant closes in ten minutes, make yourself at home Feena, it’s no trouble… No, no I insist…” Lilly ushered them upstairs and they sat down at the dining room table. “For both of you, seeing as Justin hasn’t been here for a long time, the room to your left is the new living room, and upstairs has changed as well. There’s now three bedrooms, one for Lilly, Justin’s room has been given a double-bed since news came that you got married, and my room.” Justin looked confusedly at her. “Your room? You live here now?” Sue nodded, sadly. “My foster-parents couldn’t afford to keep me anymore, so Aunt Lilly let me live with her. I’ve been helping out with the restaurant and all, so it’s not like I’m a freeloader.”

A few minutes later, signalled by “Thank you for eating at the Seagull, we hope to see you again soon!”, Lilly entered the room. She was carrying a large pot of stew, and set it down on the table. Sue grabbed seven plates and sets of cutlery from the drawer as Lilly ran downstairs and re-entered with a basket of bread. “Don’t stand on ceremony, everyone dig in!” Feena placed three napkins on her children’s laps as Lilly served the stew. “If you make a mess, any of you three, I’ll do to you what Justin did to Pakon!” The children all laughed and began eating their stew, though they did so very carefully. Justin laughed, Sue giggled and Lilly looked at her grandchildren thoughtfully. “Jake?” She said casually. Jake looked up. “Did your mommy ever tell you how much you look like daddy?” Jake smiled, a little bit of stew dribbling down his chin, and nodded. Lilly laughed. He was the very picture of Justin in his youth.

“So, Justin, whatever happened to your father’s Stone?” Lilly asked. Justin looked at Feena thoughtfully. “Come to think of it, I haven’t seen the Spirit Stone since we defeated Gaia…?” Feena shook her head. “I don’t remember either. The Spirits probably have it now.” Sue looked down at her plate sadly. “Shame. I always wanted a Spirit Stone necklace…”

Justin helped his mother set up a sofa-bed for Jake, Gadwin and Reisha. He and Feena tucked them in, kissing them on the forehead. They then undressed and went to bed themselves. Holding Feena as she fell asleep, Justin thought back. “My life is perfect… and it’s all thanks to you, Spirit Stone…”

O Castitas Lilium

I watched Elfen Lied a few days ago, and I couldn't get Lilium out of my head. So, this songfic is what came from it...

“Os Iusti Meditabitur Sapientiam…”

The girl walked through the hallowed halls of the church, the choir singing perfectly in the background. All her fears, and hopes, seemed tied in with that sacred song, and it followed her wherever she went. A boy once had a music box that played the song, and she had fallen in love. Now she would protect him.

“Et Lingua Eius Loquetur Indicium…”

Out from the church she walked calmly, passers-by not noticing the tears in her eyes. Her clothes worn slightly, she made her way down the road, past the Maple Inn. That Inn had been a haven for her, a safe place she could stay, and rest. And the boy she had loved, once upon a time, still resided there…

“Beatus Vir Qui Suffert Tentationem…”

She stopped, her memories flooding her with grief. She had killed his sister and father in a mad rage, and still regretted it deeply. He could never love her now. Though his memory faded with age, she knew that he would one day remember everything, and cast her out like the monster she was.

“Quonium Cum Probates Fuerit Accipient Coronam Vitae…”

The melody reached her ears as the Maple Inn faded into the distance. She continued walking, with a single purpose. Though he may hate her forever, her life was worth the sacrifice for his. He was the only one who had ever accepted her…

“Kyrie, Ignis Divine, Eleison…”

She reached the bridge, where he stood, surrounded by soldiers. He would not die today. She flung herself in front of him, her invisible arms shielding them both from the gunfire. As the bullets stopped in mid-air, she threw them back, killing the soldiers with as much force as they would have killed Kouta.

“Oh Quam Sancta…”

Every soldier dead, she hugged him deeply, though he pushed her away. She would never be loved again. But that mattered not, she had saved his life, and as long as he kept on living, she had a purpose.

“Quam Serena…”

The melody grew louder. Her time had come. She looked around, a lone soldier still standing, ready to fight. He chased her to the beach, where she made her last stand against him. Though he failed, she would not spill more blood. Not anymore.

“Quam Benigna…”

She returned to the bridge, Kouta had disappeared, most likely home to the Maple Inn. As she began walking away, many more soldiers appeared, blocking her exit. Her time was now.

“Quam Amoena…”

She threw her arms out, gazing as the sky. How the stars shone on this, her final night. Tears fell gracefully from her eyes, and her memories of Kouta were all that she could see. Thousands of shots rang out in the night. Her lifeless body fell to the floor. Now she may rest in peace forever.

“Oh Castitas Lilium…”

Halloween: Not Again

This is my submission for the Halloween Writer's Jam, I hope you guys enjoy :)

Gildas’ Halloween

Gildas leapt awake. Turning his head slightly, he saw the source of the noise that woke him, and noticed his clock radio alarm was still playing. That was it. He turned off the alarm and checked the time; 10AM. That would be fine. He got up, put on a blue t-shirt and some old jeans (noticing as he did so that he was getting some muscle on his forearms) and walked downstairs for some breakfast. He made himself some wholemeal toast, poured himself a glass of orange juice, and turned to head back into the living room when something caught his eye. He turned back around, noticing the rain plummeting hard against the window’s surface, thinking calmly. Was it raining when he woke?

Never mind. He walked back into the living room, and turned on the over-large television. Saturday morning cartoons always were the best. He didn’t have any homework to be done, or any need to rush, so he reflected on the night before. He and Haru had gone trick-or-treating, it being Halloween and all. He'd gone as L from Death Note, eyeliner streaming down his face, and Haru had gone as Misa, with the best dress (black and purple, with scratch marks all over it) she had ever worn. He had to say, if he were to date Haru, that would have been when he asked her.

They’d gone trick-or-treating around her estate, them and a few friends spending their final childish Halloween out having fun. Jokes were made, laughs were had and everyone went home smiling. He and Haru had watched some horror movies to try and scare each other, but it didn’t work. They watched ‘The Ring’ and laughed the whole way through. ‘The Strangers’ fared no better, with Haru saying “Oh come on, that’s so predictable!” at least thirty times the whole way through. Eventually, he’d gone home, locked up the house (his parents were away in Spain, on one of their “Parent Holidays”) and went to sleep. That was a fun night.

Now something jerked him back to reality. The TV was messing up, the message “No Signal” flashing on the screen. Odd. Gildas’ house always had signal. But then, there was a first time for everything wasn’t there, and you can’t expect perfection out of a television screen. He turned off the TV, and headed upstairs. Maybe Haru would be on MSN Messenger by now. He walked into his room, turning on the lights once more, and noticed his bedroom window was ajar. He hadn’t opened it, or had he left it open yesterday? Did it even matter? Of course not. He closed the window to avoid rain falling inside the room, and turned on his computer. A few minutes later, he was signed in and ready to check his Messenger when… his friends list had been wiped clean. Now that was unusual, totally wiped clean, none there at all, when there had been at least forty the day before. Must be a system problem. Yeah, that was it.

After re-entering his friends into the list, he noted that Haru’s messenger status was “Away”. She wasn’t usually away, but that didn’t bother him. Surfing the internet, he checked his accounts (theOtaku.com, myyearbook.com, all the usual suspects) and decided that if Haru wasn’t back in five minutes, he’d find something else to do.

He checked his watch anxiously. Four minutes had gone, she was probably just busy with homework of her own. Five minutes, still not back, maybe he’d play a Final Fantasy game. Seven minutes, it was getting a bit too late. He shut off his messenger. Turned the computer off. Walked slowly downstairs. Walking calmly into the living room, he stepped back slightly. What was going on? The TV was back on again, playing that same “No Signal” screen it had before. He turned it off, didn’t he? Obviously not. Switch OFF, thank you, and walk into the kitchen again.

The fridge was wide open. This was getting weird. The rain had stopped, too, and the window was totally dry. Gildas’ immediate thoughts jumped to the horror movies he’d seen the night before but that couldn’t be. No way. Not real. He took a chocolate bar from the fridge and closed it firmly, checking it by opening it again and re-closing it. Deep breaths. Okay. He turned back to the living room, opening the chocolate bar and stopped mid-step. The front door was open. He turned again, the fridge open and the window wet with rain. The TV switched itself on as he entered the room, and the curtains flew wide open with lightning flashing in the (night?) sky. Something was definitely wrong, something was definitely not right.

Thunder crashed in the darkened sky. Gildas turned in the hallway to open the cupboard to find it already open, so he grabbed a heavy, warm coat and his keys and headed out the front door. He’d ask his neighbours what was happening. No sooner had he left the driveway to his house had the door slammed shut. He walked back, putting his hand on the handle to open it. It was locked. Putting his hands in his pockets, he found…nothing. His keys had gone. He had definitely put them in…

He walked back to the driveway, heading out to the right to his neighbour's house. Crash! “Woah, I’m sorry sir, I didn’t mean to run into you like that!” The man, fully cloaked, continued walking. “That’s all right.” Returned a rough, gravely voice. Shaking his head, Gildas turned into his neighbour's driveway and gasped. No way. This was too far. From the gravel on the sidewalk to the tiles on the roof, this wasn’t the neighbour’s house. This was his.

Gildas shook his head vigorously. “No… No way…” he said, rubbing his eyes before looking again. His house. He turned, running to the right again, and entered the next driveway. His house. He turned again, running left. Driveway. His house. This couldn’t be happening, this was impossible! This defied the laws of nature! He pinched himself. Pain shot across his arm. No dream, certainly awake. He walked unsteadily forwards, and stopped at the front door. Rung the doorbell. A loud, low chuckle came from inside the house. The hallway light turned on, and a man in a cloak opened the door. “Good of you to join us.” Came a rough, gravely voice Gildas recognized, and he followed the man inside.

The interior of his house was totally changed. Gone were the cream-coloured walls, the soft, plush furnishings. In their place were walls of solid wooden planks, and chairs made of mahogany. In the living room sat four more men, in a circle, surrounded by lit black candles. The man who opened the door sat at the head of the four, cross-legged, and Gildas had a strange desire to sit in the centre. His body moved of its own accord, his mind screaming for him to stop but failing as he sat inside the star made by the men. They chuckled at him, or with him, as for some reason his throat tickled with laughter. As the men joined hands, he felt a wave of peace wash over him. Then, as they began to chant, everything that had happened reinstated itself in his mind and he screamed.

They all say, in the small town of Clovershack, that the house down Catterby street is haunted. The children make up stories about it, and the adults talk in hushed tones about a boy who went mad whilst living there, and shot himself. No-one would go there, no-one would buy that house even if their lives depended on it. Apart from one young family, that is. They moved in, not two weeks past. I don’t know why they bought the house. Maybe they don’t know that sad tale of the young boy. I see them on the street sometimes, on their way to the supermarket to buy their daily bread. The boy is adventurous, runs ahead a lot. I nod, smiling to his mother as she tries to catch up with him. “Come on now, Gildas, not again!”

Golden Chamber: Signo Squad

This is another joint fic by me and Haru 93. For simplicity, Haru’s parts will once again be written in italics, and mine in underline. (Edit: Underline not working. First paragraph of my writings will be in underline, rest in normal. Sorry!)...
