Normally I would have laughed at his claim but for some reason I didn’t doubt it. In fact everything mad sense now, really cruel and scary sense. The way they moved and maneuvered in the absolute dark without flashlights. The way they just sent a chill down your spine. It all made sense. Our captors were vampires.
We all stared at him, mouths open. Robby looked like he was going to puke and Didier was on the verge of fainting. I must have looked something like Robby. The news had caused my stomach to drop, making me feel sick. The vampire noticed how we looked and raised his hands defensively
“We are not going to drink your blood or anything”
At this Didier grounded himself and said “then what’s this turning thing?”
“It’s really easy” Haytham reassured us “we don’t have to bite you or anything. We have taken the venom out of our fangs the same way you do to snakes. We will just inject you with it. You might feel some pains in your stomach and teeth but other then that it’s painless.”
We all stared at him again
“And if we don’t want to” Robby said
The vampire sighed. “Then you are of no use to us and you have seen us so we will have to kill you.”
Now even if we did want to retort we couldn’t have, all three of us felt sick to our stomachs. Haytham slowly stood, his unnaturally fluid motion really stood out now. And he took a short bow “so who’s first?”
I expected none of us to respond or all of us to tell him off but something did happen. One of us did volunteer. It was Didier.
He had slowly raised his hand as if he was in school. The vampire looked surprised too but pulled the shaking boy from the floor. Then led him out of the room.
Me and Robby sat in a dead silence still in shock after all that had happened. We had been captured by vampires wanting us to join their ranks of the undead. And Didier had VOLENTEERED to be the first to be changed. He was always a little weird and into this kind of stuff but I was still scared for him. I knew he hated his home life, his father was never around and his mother didn’t seem to really care for him. So he had taken up the paranormal, he loved it, ghosts, demons, ghouls you name it! Didier would have had a fix on it at one point. But I didn’t want to do this; I had more then just these two as friends and two loving parents plus a five-year-old brother. Imagine what his life would be like if his big brother suddenly disappeared.
Robby was shaking too; he had SIX siblings, and a step dad. Because he was the oldest he had to help his dad take care of the younger. He was probably more against this then I was. Even if he constantly complained about his siblings I’m sure he loved them deep down. As I did my little brother.
The door opened again, but no Didier, it was Haytham again. His piercing eyes scanned us and he said
“Who’s next?” when neither of us spoke he walked into the room and grabbed for one of us, me! I tried to struggle and pull away but the vampire was too strong. He dragged me into a room where about a dozen other vampires stood around arm chair. I was set down in it. Straps had been crudely sewn to it and I was tied down. Looking around the room my eyes stopped on a figure that the creepy vampire Faruq was holding. Didier was obviously unhappy to be held by this particular vampire but staring on absently at me.
Haytham grabbed a small plastic cup filled about halfway with a clear liquid. He began to advance toward me but was stopped by a bulky figure.
“Which clan’s venom is that Haytham?” it growled.
“Mine” he snarled back “the night bird clan was promised one of them.”
“Why not have the next?” the bulky vampire retorted.
“Because this one seems to me to be the most suitable for my clan. I am willing to take him as my apprentice”.
They glared at each other for a while then the bulky one let him go, he walked over to me and extracted the venom from the cup. I was shaking and felt like crying with fear, but it would do no good in my case. Haytham grabbed my left arm and pulled it strait. Slowly he pressed the needle into my flesh and injected it. I didn’t feel anything; it was like getting a shot at the doctors.
The vampire undid the straps and pulled me to my feet. We then joined the crowd and the bulky one went to get Robby.
