It was a long time before we began to try and think of escaping. We sat in a tense silence for what felt like days. Finally Robby began to dig through his pockets.
“My cell phone!” he cried “it’s gone!”
“You think they’d be stupid enough to leave something to call the police here with us?” Didier said annoyed.
“What do we do” I whimpered, hiding my face in my hands.
“Well lets think” Robby said, I knew he wasn’t being sarcastic “they offered us light and food, and from what Diddy told us, they want us alive for something.”
“I’m scared” Didier said “they said something about ‘turning’ us”.
“Maybe they’re some kind of cult” I suggested.
Robby shook his head “I don’t know, but it’s scary”.
Time passed and eventually they brought us food. Didier kept his distance from one short and dirty one with brown hair, they all had amber eyes. I guessed that this one must have been Faruq, he grinned evilly at us the whole time they were there. The other two were hooded and stayed silent the whole time. Before they left Faruq turned to face us
“I expect your time will come soon piggies” He jeered “how many of you will survive the first test I wonder”.
One of the hooded figures slapped him and the shoulder to silence him and they left.
Time passed, none of us wanted to touch the food. We just stared at it, sandwiches and cokes. They weren’t exactly treating us like prisoners. Finally our stomachs growled and I picked up one of the sandwiches. It had ham slices and mayonnaise in it. I didn’t suspect poison, but was cautious at first anyway. When my stomach took over my mind I finally ate it, and the others shortly joined. The sodas were warm from sitting in the room for so long but we drank them anyway.
We all stayed awake after that, tired as we were. We guessed it was day outside, but there was no way to tell. The torch had gone out though and we had lit the candles. Their light was dim and made our faces look creepy; we could hardly see the room now.
The one named Haytham came in shortly after the torch had gone out. He lit it again and looked at us. We all huddled a little closer. I didn’t like any of these guys, there was something unnatural in the way they moved. Their movements were too silky and smooth to be human. They felt dangerous, I don’t know how to describe it, and there was just a natural fear that came with their presence. The same chill we got when we saw them in the hall was with them at all times. Haytham was a little less in this way; he was less cold to us and was careful when he spoke.
Haytham sat in front of us and sighed
“How are you?”
“‘How are you’?!” Robby roared “You capture us, throw us in a dark room and keep us like prisoners! And all you can say is ‘how are you’?!”
Haytham winced at his out burst “I am sorry we have to do this to you. I have asked them to treat you all better, you are honored guests here. We need you three. Please keep patience at the others, they are young.”
Robby held his retort.
So I took hold of the silence “Wh-what do you want us for?”
Haytham took a deep sigh and scratched the scar on his cheek nervously.
“We’re not human, you may have guessed that…our race is dying, so against our instinct and laws we are capturing human boys like yourselves and…turning them. You will be our next generation; you are needed by all of us”.
Didier stared and then muttered “what are you”.
Haytham looked up at him and the left corner of his mouth pulled up into a weird smile that strangely contorted his scar.
“We’re vampires”
