Chapter 2

I had pretty much forgotten to breathe by this point, the door had opened slowly. I was waiting for the dark figure to swoop down on me and kill me. But it didn’t, in fact, nothing happened, it was totally and brutally silent. I stayed huddled on the floor, shaking from head to foot. I stood slowly, not knowing what would happen when I did; my heart was ready to leap up my throat and out my mouth. I forced my rubbery legs to carry me to the doorway, hesitated, then glanced down the hallway. No one was there.
Suddenly a hand grabbed my shoulder and with surprising force flung me back into the room. I heard laughing as three figures were pushing me between them. I was yelling and babbling pleas for help before I was grabbed firmly and held in place by two strong hands. I think I struggled and kicked, crying for help, but my mind was overrun with fear. I saw a black mass lean over me, it was right in my face and I felt the hot breath again, this time flowing into my lunges. I suddenly felt horridly light headed and my body collapsed in the grip of the attacker. Then everything went black.

I awoke in a miserable state. I was cold, and in pitch dark, my bones ached from laying on a hard surface for too long. I forced myself painfully into a sitting position. And began to crawl around, grouping for something to hold on to. My hands found something rapped in fabric. It was warm and seemed like it was breathing. It gave out a loud cry when I put my hands on it, I recognized the cry.
“Robby?” I whispered to the thing.
It moved slowly and responded in a weak and shaky voice “Adam? Is that you?”
“Yeah, what happened?”
“I don’t know, I was walking away ready to leave, but I got lost and began to call for you guys. Then those black things came and swarmed around me. I don’t really remember much after that”.
“That’s pretty much what happened to me too” I said, scared.
“Where’s Diddy?” Robby asked, I had taken my hands off him and he was sitting up now.
“We got separated” I groaned “the black thing knocked him out, that’s all I know”.
There was a long pause which I broke by asking where we were. Robby said he had no idea, when he had woken up he had just lay in the dark, not wanting to move around. So I began to crawl around the room, I found the walls and what felt like plates or something. Standing I traced my hands along the walls, they were rough like stucco. There were two plain mattresses on the floor, I tested them then led Robby to them, it would be more comfortable then lying on the stone floor. We both sat on the fatter of the mattresses and talked in hushed tones. Our eyes couldn’t adjust to the dark, there was not the faintest tint of light, the room held no windows. We don’t know how long we sat there, wishing we were home in bed.
Suddenly light met our eyes from the far end of the room, there was one of the black figures standing in the doorway holding a flash light. He blinded us with the flash light examining our faces one at a time. He looked over his shoulder and said something to an unseen assistant. Another figure ran in and tossed a third in. at first I was horrified, then I noticed the familiar body shape of the third. It was Didier.
After he had stumbled in the one with the flash light walked over to one of the walls. Set high in the wall was a torch, the figure struck a lighter illuminating his nose and glitter of eyes, and then he lit the torch lighting up the room. The figure was no longer just a black silhouette but now was a man. He looked in his late thirties, his pale skin stretched over muscles and bone. His eyes were an amber color. He had a large scar that started at his left ear and ended at the bridge of the nose, there were other, less noticeable scars all over his body, but the one on his face was the darkest. He surveyed the three of us with a stern look on his face then said “the torch should last about five hours” he tossed down some candles “when it looks like it’s about to go out, use these until we can replace it.” His voice was horse and weak, but still shook us up.
“Are you hungry” he asked us. We all shook our heads no. He bent over and placed three water bottles on the floor. He looked up again after this, his eyes were like knives. He pointed to a door that I hadn’t noticed before “there’s a bathroom in there”. Then silently he left.
Didier stumbled over to us and grabbed me shaking. He was pale and his eyes were red like he had been crying. I also noted bruises, nasty ones.
“Wh-what did they do Diddy?” Robby stammered.
He just began to sob again and I tried to comfort him.
“Th-their not human” he sobbed gripping my shirt tightly.
