Art Material of the Day: Colored Pencils

Hello Everyone! Sorry its been so long since I last posted. I am starting to think that I should just post about an art material on the weekends or something like that. Anyways, the art material of the day is colored pencils! I love to use colored pencils because they are very easy to use most of the time. There are many types of colored pencils ranging from Rose art to Prisma color. As it is known, Prisma color is a very good brand of art supplies but for colored pencils, but it does not really matter what brand you get, the real key to colored pencils is 1. patience and 2. lightly coloring in layers to make darker colors. An example of this is my art piece: Falling Petals which can be found in my portfolio. Colored pencils, for me, are easy to use because of the great gradient affects you can get from them just by smudging and layering colors.

Tips Corner:

Tip:
1. As said before, lightly color with colored pencils and layer to make darker colors.

2. Patience is a main point for doing art with colored pencils. The longer you work on something, the better it will turn out.

3. To get smooth gradients, use a tissue or your finger to rub the colors in.

4. * Do not be afraid of color! Skin can be shades of yellows and bright oranges which make great effects. (*= Important)

5. Have an idea of what colors to use before you start! You do not want to find out, after 4 hours of work, that your colors do not match or go together.

6. Lighting can be a key essential to any aspect of your art work. Try using different colors of light and different areas of which it is coming from.

Paper Corner:
For colored pencil, mostly any paper will do. If you want a grainy texture go with sketch book papers. If you want a smooth texture for gradients, go with copy paper.

Hope this helps!
