Tragedy

Fanfiction: Naruto by Effie-san

Her eyes closed and heart throbbing, each beat making the cracks of her broken heart bigger. Tears came down and memories flowed through her mind like a whisper of the wind. His voice echoing and vanishing into the rain. Her body was soaked to the bone. She never felt so much pain; it felt like a bad dream.

He lay on the ground blood coming from the sides of his mouth and the color of his once warm eyes faded into coldness. She shook her head and lay at his side. He touched her face and she looked into his dying eyes. He smiled and grunted as the pain surged his body. Her hair was flowing over her shoulders and her beautiful cerulean eyes became white.

"Please," she took in breath and let it out, "don't die, please don't!"

"I'm sorry," he struggled to say. "I tried...Ino." Shikamaru's body was mortally wounded; nothing and no one could save him. Ino shook her head and laid it on his shoulder. He placed his hand on her head and tried to get her to calm down. His side was bleeding from an injury that he received to save the woman he loved. Ino cried harder as his heartbeat faded slowly.

"Shikamaru! You can't leave me alone like this!" her tear reflected so much pain it was miracle she didn't die. "I can't, please! I can't do this without you."

A pink haired girl stood in the background and fell to her knees crying seeing her friend in so much pain. A silver haired masked man kneeled beside Sakura and placed his hand on her shoulder. She nodded and let out a breath getting up. Ino still hadn't moved from her spot. The thunder clashed loudly on the ground. Chouji sat on a broke log and looked down at the ground not even willing to eat anything, nor look to his comrade. Sasuke and Naruto looked at each other and then back at the two lying in the muddy water.

His blood was pouring out puddling around them and his eyes started to shut. Ino sat up and shook her head. His hand reached up for her face and he lightly touched it. Her eyes filled with tears as his hand fell from her face and slammed onto the ground.

"Shikamaru?" she questioned shaking him gently. He didn't respond she tried to feel for a pulse, it was so weak. It was too late he was gone. "No!"

Sakura shuddered at her screams and turned around looking at the blonde genin sitting on the ground, her body shaking and going pale. Kakashi closed his eyes and continued walking on. Asuma stood next to him, but couldn't move away. Sasuke touched Sakura's arm trying to get her off of the thought of Shikamaru dying. She turned to him and threw her arms around him. He held her; he knew it was hard on her, so he couldn't shove her away.

Ino looked up at the sky and shook her head. She grabbed Shikamaru and picked him up to lay her head on his, but he was gone. She felt the sun touch her wet body and opened her closed eyes. They gleamed and she remembered.

"Well what do ya know, looks like your stuck with me!" he laughed.

"You got it!" Shikamaru nodded catching her body as it fell. He placed it down gently and turned back to the enemy.

Ino laid Shikamaru back on the ground and stood up. She walked away from him, tears streaming down her face.

"I never got the chance," she choked out and continued, "to...to let you know how I felt...and I wanna...let you know, that Shikamaru I loved...you."
