theOtaku.com is comprised of numerous sub-sites. Here's a quick explanation of our submission guidelines for each site:
Fan Art
Dimensions and Size:
- Filesize: 1 MB maximum
- Width: Maximum 1500 pixels, minimum 400 pixels
- Height: Maximum 2000 pixels, minimum 350 pixels
Fan Characters:
If you draw an original character who exists in an existing franchise then file it under the category of that franchise and click the "fan character" checkbox. For example if you draw yourself as a character of Naruto, then submit it to the Naruto category with the 'fan character' checkbox checked.
Fan Comics
Dimensions and Size:
- Filesize: 1 MB maximum
- Width: Maximum 1500 pixels, minimum 400 pixels
- Height: Maximum 2000 pixels, minimum 350 pixels
Cards
Dimensions and Size:
- Filesize: 300 KB maximum
- Width: Exactly 350 pixels
- Height: Exactly 350 pixels
Readability:
All Cards should feature an image with readable, grammatically correct text. The most common reason that we deny Cards from publication is that the text is either difficult to see (for example the color blends in with the image) or that the text has spelling errors.
Fan Words
Rating:
All Fan Words must be a maximum rating of PG-13.
Paragraph Spacing:
There must be a full empty line between all paragraphs. Indentation does not carry over to the web well and this rule helps make your work easier to read for members.
"Audience Principle":
A work is only published if our editors believe it would be well received by theOtaku's audience.
Grammar, Spelling, and Purpose:
All Fan Words must be well written, with proper grammar, spelling, and with a clear purpose.
Self Contained:
All works must be self-contained. We don't publish Fan Words in parts. We have a BREAK tag that allows you to divide multi-part fiction or essays into multiple pages.
Personal Poetry:
While we might publish poetry if it's long enough and pertinent to a specific franchise, we do not publish personal poetry as it could quickly overwhelm the site.
Spacing:
Fan Words should contain no unnecessary spacing beyond what's required. For example in a work of fiction, putting 10 line breaks between chapters is distracting for readers. It would be better to use the BREAK tag to divide.
Post Types:
- Life: A life post is about something personal. We rarely publish Life posts unless they are about experiences that a general audience fan of a series would really enjoy reading about
- Feature: A feature is like a magazine feature. Top 10 lists, interviews, reports, etc.
- Fiction: Self-explanatory
- Essay: An essay should state a thesis upfront and spend the body arguing for that thesis. For example: "Why Harry Potter is like Naruto"
- Guide: A guide is purely data-driven. For example a character biography. We rarely publish guides since it doesn't make sense to have 50 character biographies of Sasuke on our Naruto hub. However, if you create a Naruto WORLD with lots of great guides inside it, we will publish the entire WORLD.
